5.0 out of 5 stars Eugene Record (GENIUS REVISITED), January 30, 2002

This review is from: Eugene Record (Audio CD)
I have been an ardent fan of the legendary Chi-Lites from back in the day and quickly fell in love not only with the intoxicating, creative writing style of Eugene Record but with his breathtaking melodies and captivating musical arrangements. Whether composing for the Chi-Lites or a creative achievement like this solo effort here, appropriately titled The Eugene Record, you will never, ever be dissapointed with this master at work or the work of the master. His poignant songs will make you want to cry, his mid to up-tempo tunes will have you dancing the night away. As for his heartfelt, romantic ballads, they're in a class by themselves. This story telling musical genius will blow your mind with his lyrics. His music is a rip roaring, fire crackling ride you'll never want to get off of...Trust me! Your body and your soul will be transported to another level. I have been completely hypnotized by the depth and caliber of his work since day one and continue to be as I listen to his music today. It's a love affair all over again. Eugene Record - Singer/Song Writer/Arranger/Producer - a man who wears an eight foot hat and wears it so beautifully. His talent and formula for producing excellent material knows no bounds. Cheers!

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Seventies Summer Soul Revisited, February 10, 2001
By
Don Overton (Waukegan ,Ill. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eugene Record (Audio CD)
When I first heard "Laying Beside You",I knew this was going to be a very good album.I was 16 years old at the time and this was one of my favorites of the summer of 77'.If I'm not mistaken this was Eugene Record's first solo effort,a slammin' one I must say.The former lead singer of The Chi-Lites shows he hasn't lost any of his smooth tenor voice. Side one of this album is a great mix of love songs and uptempo songs that any seventies R&B fan will enjoy. Side two kind of drags. The only cut I really like is,"Mother of Love, the second single released off the album. I was so thrilled to find this obscure R&B relic re-released on disc.It is well worth the extra price of an Import. Peace Out, Don
