remarkable...,

This review is from: Euphonic Sounds (Audio CD)
So, you thought that ragtime was museum music? Well, think again... Out of one of Chicago's housing project areas comes the unbelievable African-American pianist Reginald Robinson with this stunning album of old and new ragtime piano solos. Mr.Robinson more or less taught himself to play and write music after he heard ragtime in school. The playing is great, and the album proves that no music needs to be old-fashioned or outdated as long as it speaks to modern audiences with self-pride, self-dignity and a wish to communicate. Mr.Robinson is gigging around Chicago and other American cities on a fairly regular basis, so he might be well worth checking out in a concert setting, too. He also has another self-produced CD for sale ( which is not listed by Amazon). Look for it, and watch history grab hold of the present.

Sheer delight from beginning to end!,

Reginald Robinson has a passion for ragtime music, and it shows. This CD is sheer delight from beginning to end! He performs works by his major inspirations (Scott Joplin, Louis Chauvin) and also his own original works. I especially enjoyed "Lift Every Voice and Sing" which is performed in a very singable key, and which probably sounds much as the song would have been performed back in 1900. Mr.Robinson has taken classics of Ragtime, plus his own contemporary gems and incorporated them into a single CD that will revive Ragtime for many years to come. A truly outstanding production.
