NOT the same old stuff,

Glancing down the list of tracks you might think you've heard this all before. Not like this, you haven't! (If you don't think you've heard any of these songs before, this is electonica and maybe it's not for you.) These mixes are unique to my collection of ~150 mixes of this stuff. I must say the mixing by Jay Barnett is masterfully done. No brash key/pitch/speed changes, yet somehow both tribal and dreamy elements are combined. These discs cover a lot of ground, yet somehow I like it all. I'm not good with all the words needed to describe this stuff, but I believe that if it sounds good it is good. Not recommended for people who don't like deep trance, don't have good speakers (or at least good headphones), or aren't willing to sit down and appreciate an 80-minute odyssey through euphoria. Caveats: I got my copy for <$20, so $35 is a ripoff. I live in the USA so I don't get treated to all these mixes, or this style of DJing. I've got lots of MoS, Ultra, and other stuff and think that a lot of it is just a bunch of songs that are only mixed so there aren't any breaks in between; definitely not an art form like this. The last compilation I thought was chosen and mixed this well was Jimmy Van M's contribution to Trance Nation America (Disc 2).

This is the my favorite of all the Euphoria collections I own. It runs thin, like liquid gold all through your brain. Who needs drugs?! I don't usually like vocals in electronica compilations, but it all works so well here with expert mix of beat and bass. DJ Jay Burnett lays down tracks like only a genius can. If you're not sure which Euphoria to buy, get this one. I guarantee you will know bliss when you hear it.

I found this at Virgin Record in downtown Chicago for $7.99 and I was quite shocked how good it was! I have no complaint. The mixes are awesome, the selections couldn't be found anywhere else, with the old and new and the unusual mixed all right next to each other. The old tunes don't even sound the same. It was quite a listening experience! It's best to close your eyes and let go to this music. Not recommended for driving!

Euphoria series has been known to have the best trance music sets available. This time it takes on a different flavor. D.j. Jay Burnett Mixed some well known trance tracks into something new. Those fans of trance music who strictly listen to trance only, might be put off with this cd because it mixes different genres into one; classical, lounge, dance, techno and house. But... if you want to hear something different, you might actually get a kick out of this cd set. The first track called "Wheat" sounds like classical music, very nicely done. Next comes "Chilling Moments", sounds like new age/classical, also very nice. Onto track 4, we have "Sister Sister" sounding like house music. After that we get a dance version of "Resurection", it has a nice tempo. The tempo picks up with "Bassfly" and it does sound more like trance. Track 9 makes a nice turn with "Wavy Gravy" it has a mellow tempo and sweet sound effects, it's just so cool. The second cd also has good tracks, but you must keep in mind that several genres are mixed in. The results: beautiful, odd, hypnotic and loads of fun! I only took away one star in my review because some of the tracks are overused in other cd sets. They should have included all new tracks. Mr. Jay Burnett, take a bow, Deeper Shades of Euphoria is excellent!

After owning this cd and listening to it over and over and friends telling me how much they enjoyed the listening experience. I've decided that this is a wonderfull party cd. I would suggest purchasing this cd to anyone. I like this cd when played at a moderate to high volume level on my Harmon Kardon AVR 7000 I own several of the Ephoria cd's from telstar. this is the best. Its fun expecially when it gets play at coffee time.Joy to the world...

This is NOT the newest edition of the Euphoria Chill-out series. When I was looking at this in the record shop, I was a bit conflicted at some of the titles of teh tracks and the remixes. Some seemed up-beat, some seemed dark, some seemed light, some seemed chill. Having said that, this is really a testament to the DJ. It's a pure mood Euphoria and shows why, IMO, when it comes to dance and specifically trance, BMG/Euphoria is a cut above Ministry of sound and most of the other labels that release comp after comp. The BMG Euphoria series always has been one of my favorites and with this release, it solidifies that further in my collection. What this double disc set is, is a collection of some of the rarest and hard to find remixes of trance cuts, dating from I'd say 1997 on up. Some of the trance cuts were pretty popular in the UK clubs, at least when I lived there, like the version of Cafe Del Mar and Greece 2000. You also have a few more recent remakes and remixes, like Sister Sister from Sister Bliss. I'm impressed by this cd because of the way the DJ so superbly blends the styles of the ambient/trance tunes. For instance, you start out with "Wheat" from the gladiator soundtrack, and before you know it you're kickin' back to "Bassfly". But in typical Euphoria fashion - it's the mix that I usually like and the way that the vintage Cafe Del Mar mixes into Sasha's awesome Wavy Gravy is just - mindblowing. I definitely recommend this CD. It's a different type of mix, and yes, it actually is pretty dark. Mind you, it's nothing like the Chilled Euphoria series alone or the Trance series alone - it's literally what happens when you slam the two of them together. Good job by the DJ! |
