4.0 out of 5 stars Great Tent with only one minor issue
We needed a new tent and so we took a chance and looked on line for one. We are a family of 5 so the size was important. We also have 3 children so the Pine Lodge appealed to us because of the "fan style" door.

This tent is HUGE and is SO nice to stand inside and not have to hunch over. There are 4 decent sized windows. There is the "fan" door and there...

2.0 out of 5 stars beware of fan door
The fan door just is not a good design, it kept blowing in at the top in a moderate wind in the middle of the night and no way to fasten it but one hook for the whole thing and the bottom is open to anything that wants to push its way in. It would be nice if it had a zipper you could close at night for a positive clousere. I am returning the tent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Tent with only one minor issue, March 7, 2007
We needed a new tent and so we took a chance and looked on line for one. We are a family of 5 so the size was important. We also have 3 children so the Pine Lodge appealed to us because of the "fan style" door.

This tent is HUGE and is SO nice to stand inside and not have to hunch over. There are 4 decent sized windows. There is the "fan" door and there is also another door opposite the fan door. I think it is important to note this as I am sure that will help with ventilation. Not to mention there is another way to enter the tent and you can tie back the solid pieces of fabric on the outside to let in light etc.

The only issue we have with this tent is the appealing "fan door". The door does NOT secure at the bottom. It actually does not secure anywhere, although there is a decent sized over lap around the front where the fan doors passes through. We hope it keeps rain out. There is one place on the inside that it appears you can strap the door down from the inside. However, we have gone on MANY camping trips and know the squirrels alone could get into the tent if they wanted. Not to mention bugs etc. We decided to keep the tent because of the size, price, and the "fan door!" BUT I went to a local fabric store and got 60 inches of 2 inch wide industrial strength Velcro. I ran the Velcro along the bottom of the fan door and the bottom of the tent hoping we can at least secure the bottom from unwanted visitors. NO one in neighboring campsites will want to hear my kids screaming when they find a visitor in their sleeping bag :) We will see how that holds up. So this is why I am only giving it 4 out of 5 stars. It is the door that sold me on it and the door that I am wondering about. Otherwise this looks like it will be a great purchase, and I hope it lasts us many trips.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this tent!, August 2, 2009
By
This is a great tent. We, like others, bought it for the roominess and the fan door, and it worked great - lots of headroom, lots of room inside. There were just two of us, plus two dogs, and we had plenty of room for two cots, two chairs, the dog bed and a table (when needed). We got rain every afternoon for at least 2 hours -sometimes 4 - so having a tent that we could stand and sit in really helped us not feel trapped! Tent stood up to the rain, no problems. We even got hail one day! we did knock that off the rain fly - didn't want to risk any failure. In our case, the fan door worked well - it never blew in or came off its track and we had a LOT of rain and some wind. But because it doesn't fasten at the bottom, our dogs were able to get out under it, so we had to keep them on their leads at night in the tent. We'll be putting a small barrier across the bottom during future camping trips, that should take care of that problem. Other than the dogs being able to operate it, we LOVED the fan door. My husband has a bad back, so he really liked not having to bend over to unzip and zip a door. We don't keep food in the tent, so like others who have posted weren't worried about anything coming in. I admit it took us longer than 10 or 15 min to put up - it was raining a bit at the time and what with it being our first time assembling it and my husband's back, it took us a little while. But I'm sure we'll get faster with time!

Should warn though - be prepared for comments from other campers! We were at a 20-campsite campground, and everyone noticed (favorably) our tent. They thought it looked great and roomy and were quite envious of us! Especially when, during the biggest rain/hail storm, when 2 sets of campers packed up and left the campsite for good, and several other tents were partially or fully collapsed, we stayed safe and dry in our Pine Lodge. Let me tell you, if you're stuck for four hours in a tent - you want one with headroom and room to move around!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Roomy, April 28, 2009

This is the best tent I've owned so far. After researching many tents this one was the only one that fit the checklist.
I was looking for a tent that we could stand up in. (I hate trying to change in and out of a swimsuit while sitting on the floor or crouching) There is plenty of headroom and more usable space than a dome type tent. The set-up is fast, it takes me about 10-12 minutes (a little longer if the kids help)
It's not shown in this picture but the tent has a huge rain fly that makes a covered "front porch" area. This is great for leaving your shoes outside the tent, shaking off the rain and leaving rain gear outside the tent, or finding shelter from the rain without being cooped up inside the tent.
The fan door is great, the tent was never left open. You just lift it up to enter and gravity closes it behind you. The fan door rides inside a pocket of fabric about 6"deep. It did blow open once during an extremely windy night. I fixed it by laying a backpack in front of it. I will be adding a loop/toggle closure at the bototm of the door to prevent that from happening again. We don't keep food in our tent and so have never gotten critters in there.
The only other option we were looking for is a seperate room for a little privacy when changing. This is a big wide open room, however we were able to compensate for it by hanging a string between the gear loops in the top corners and putting up some curtains.
We've had the tent for about a year and have used it about 6 times, it stays cool in the summer and stayed dry in the rain. This tent is definately worth lugging the 45 pounds out to your site and it has the old canvas M*A*S*H tent look to it. I would definately recommend it as a family camping tent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great family Tent, June 12, 2007
By

Took the tent out for the first time this weekend was treated to the typical Idaho weather patterns. Friday sun shine and cool with a brisk wind. Saturday hot and still during the day and a storm rolled in at night. The tent performed beautifully. Set up took my wife and I about 15 minutes, everything is straight forward and easy to set up. We were able to fit 2 queen sized air mattresses and a portable crib across the tent and had a 3X12 section of floor space totally empty. The tent did come with the crappy plastic stakes, but I have ordered MSR groundhogs as replacements. I did experience one failure on the tent. The corners attach to the frame with metal hooks, and one broke. I have already contacted Eureka and they are sending me out a replacement. The tent kept up high and dry in the nasty rain and even performed better than my friends REI Hobitat 4. This is due to the rain fly that can be set to cover 3 of the 4 sides completely. In other reviews of this tent, people have not liked the "Fan Door" I however loved it. I do need to alter the bottom to completely seal the tent from possible wandering critters, but this is acceptable due to the convenience of having a door that my 3 year old can open and close by himself without problems. If you have kids, this door is the only way to go. The tent is heavy, and it takes up about 12"X12"X36" stored, and it is difficult to find a semi flat surface for a 10'X12' tent. In the end, I could not be happier with this tent. If you have a family and don't mind transporting a large tent, I would recommend you buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this Tent!!!!!!!!!, August 25, 2010

I purchased the Eureka Pine Lodge this last winter on Amazon. I spent alot of time researching different tents and comparing prices. Amazon always amazes me with the savings I find on products I am interested in purchasing. I have always purchased Eureka Tents and could not find anything I liked bettter. I was searching for a straight wall tent and Eureka came through with the Pine Lodge. I have been using it all summer and could not be more pleased with the tent. The tent is extremely easy to set-up. After using it on a few camping trips this summer I realized I could set the tent up by myself. The quality of the materials is great. I did not seam seal the tent and it has not leaked a drop. My first trip this summer, it rained 6 inches in two days and we stayed perfectly dry in the tent. We use a queen size air mattress, a card table, two camp chairs, a night stand and still had plenty of room to stow gear and be comfortable when spending time in the tent. I love the fan door, no more getting zipper caught, I used a stake right in front of tent door, looped the door handle around the stake when we we're out fishing or boating. I also added some large fishing weigths along bottom of door and never had any problems with door not staying closed.( I cut a slot in the weights and was able to pinch them closed after i slid the door fabic in the slots ) I love this tent!!!!!!! I look foward to many years of use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best tent ever!, August 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eureka Pine Lodge Tent (Sports)
Eureka tents are high quality, and the Pine lodge is no exception.

The straight walls and high ceiling hight make this a very roomy tent. Its great to be able to stand up and walk around inside the tent. Feels more like a cabin than a tent. Our family of four, all sleeping on cots, had lots of room left over even with our gear inside.

The fan door fully kicks ass. Kids go in and out, never have to worry about the zipper.

Lots of windows and great ventilation with the peak vent.

Easy to set up, and this tent handles the rain with ease. Just after setting it up on our last outing, a monsoon like thunder storm begain. We sat on our folding chairs under the canopy fly extension and watched the whole storm, nice and dry the whole time, while water rolled off the tent in streams. Not a drop of rain inside. Not even a hint of dampness.

For those who are interested, the tarp listed below makes a perfect sized ground sheet to protect the bottom of your tent. It extends out the front of the tent as far as the canopy extends. It is a quality heavy duty tarp.
Dry Top 212167 12-by-16-Foot Heavy-Duty 6-Millimeter UV Treated Tarp, Silver/Brown Reversible

5.0 out of 5 stars Eureka, the Pine Lodge is Set Up!!!, July 28, 2010

This review is from: Eureka Pine Lodge Tent (Sports)
The Eureka Pine Lodge Tent is the best tent I have ever owned. It is very easy to put up (after the first time) as advertised. I like the tent because, unlike any other tent I have owned, it is like a cabin/safari tent - tall with 90 degree walls up to the A-frame ceiling. I strongly recommend this tent!

Easy to put up and very roomy.
The vertical walls give you much more space inside than dome tents.
