5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful vacuum for what you pay!
I, too, bought the yellow Walmart model 2981BVZ after my 10 year old Hoover Windtunnel died. I must say I am impressed with this vacuum even though it only cost about $80, compared with almost $300 for my Hoover. It cleans remarkably well, as well as my old Hoover did, it is quieter than my Hoover, the telescoping dust brush DOES work, and it is so convenient to empty...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!
I loved this vacuum for three months. It picked up pet hair dander and dust better than most. I babied the machine, cleaned out the dust container mid use and washed the filters and dust cup after each use. Then it happened, a loud noise a small amount of smoke and the belt had snapped, the brush mount melted and the housing destroyed (from the melted brush mount). Eureka...

Eureka representatives said the part that failed was not under warranty and has refused to replace or repair my relatively new vaccum. They even said it was my fault for not keeping it at a high enough setting for my carpet (I keep it on the highest setting). It would have cost me more to repair than replace the machine. I have had great luck with Eureka products in the past but with their response (or lack thereof) I will not buy a Eureka again. Do yourself a favor and don't buy a Eureka Altima.

1.0 out of 5 stars It started off good...., October 10, 2006

but keeps going downhill. I've had this vacuum about9 months now and already need a replacement. In the first month, the "power paw" stopped working, but from the very beginning, I found that the upper filter would clog up so quickly that I had to empty it every couple of minutes or the vacuum would either not pick up very well or it actually "spit" dirt back out. I washed the filters after every 2nd use, but had to replace both of them after about 4 months (and they aren't cheap) because they became so clogged up. After about 6 months, the belt broke and the motor almost burned up. I now believe the old adage that you get what you pay for.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible - don't waste your money, January 31, 2007
This review is from: Eureka 2971BVZ Altima Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
We've had two of these vacumn's and now after the second one failing the sameway we won't be having anymore.
We got the first one and after about 6 weeks the suction just died on it,we called Eureka and they told us we'd need to take it in for a service,WHAT after 6 weeks of once daily use are you kidding me ? Then they tried all the excuses "did you use it on new carpet","have you vacumned something wet with it" etc etc and no we hadn't done any of those, yes the filters were clean as was the dirt bucket and yes we'd been cleaning it after every use,i was taking great care of it but they were no help, thankfully Target graciously took it back without a receipt for store credit and being it'd worked fine at first we thought it was just that vacumn and not a model problem overall so we got another .. UGH it's been 10 weeks and now this one has done the same thing and just stopped sucking,i'm getting no suction from the bottom at all,the tube works but with three kids,2 dogs and 2 cats i can't vacumn that way all the time,i need something reliable.
This vacumn is also heavy and the duster doesn't stay in the holder which is just plain annoying .. with the lack of assistance from Eureka i won't buy another product of theirs infact we're just plain giving in and with it being tax return time are going all out and getting a DC17 from Dyson ..

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst vacuum EVER!, January 25, 2007
This review is from: Eureka 2971BVZ Altima Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
If I could give this 0 stars, I would. I've had this less than a year and it's already not working well. The "power paw" is stupid and the duster just gets in the way. It's bulky and heavy and does NOT do a good job with cat hair and litter. I've never seen a vacuum get more clogged. There are several areas that need to be dumped out regularly - a big pain. I hate it!

1.0 out of 5 stars dont waste your money!..., August 28, 2006
This review is from: Eureka 2971BVZ Altima Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
i had this for 2 weeks, called the company because the dirt kept getting caught in the top filter. they had me readjust the carpet height..it only worked on one height. i called again in 2 weeks as i had changed the belt and it was still smelling like somethign was burning. it was clogged, but i got the clog out. still wasnt working right. today i had to call again (2 weeks after last call...6 weeks after i bought it). the vacuum was smoking! the roller actually melted!!! they told me it was my fault as the height adjustment was probably wrong..even though i told them there was only one height i could use it on. so now im out the money i spent on this and out a vacuum! dont waste your money on any eureka. oh they said warranty wouldnt cover it as it was the roller..and that im at fault????

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!, July 15, 2006
This review is from: Eureka 2971BVZ Altima Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I WISH I WOULD HAVE READ ALL OF THESE REVIEWS BEFORE BUYING. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE FROM DAY ONE. SHOOTS OUT DIRT - PET HAIR [ I HAVE LOTS ] GETS CLOGGED IN THE FILTER. I HAVE TO "PICK" OUT THE HAIR ETC FROM THE HOSE - IT NEVER MAKES IT TO THE LITTLE CUP. WHEN EMPTYING THE CUP - DIRT GOES EVERYWHERE. MUST SHOWER AFTER EVERY VACUUMING EXPERIENCE!

1.0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE !!, June 2, 2006
This review is from: Eureka 2971BVZ Altima Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
This vaccuum does not work properly. I purchased it less than 6 months ago and it does not clean floors or carpeting without shooting the dirt back at your feet. The filters clog everytime I use it...totally worthless...DO NOT PURCHASE IT!

It cleans remarkably well, as well as my old Hoover did, it is quieter than my Hoover, the telescoping dust brush DOES work, and it is so convenient to empty the dust cup without having to clean the filter each time. True, it isn't self-propelled, but it is relatively light for its size and fairly easy to push around. And the Turbo Paw works absolutely great, especially on stairs. The only minor flaw I experienced is, as others have noted, the extension wand falls off when bumped, but I am working on a fix for this and in the meantime, it doesn't detract from the cleaning power of the vacuum. I love it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Garbage, December 7, 2006
This review is from: Eureka 2971BVZ Altima Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I have had this vacuum for less than one month and I'm already fighting urges to chuck it in the dumpster. The dust cup is as easy to remove as they advertise, but it still dumps dust everywhere when removed. Changing the small plastic filter above the dirt cup is also pretty much akin to just reaching into the dirt cup while it's full and fishing around. Recently, I noticed it was spitting a cloud of dust while vacuuming and leaving dust marks on my dark blue carpet. I promptly took everything off that is cleanable... cleaned all the filters, the brush roller, the dust cup... allowed everything to dry thoroughly... and then attempted to vacuum up the dust marks it left hours before. Garbage. Within a minute, all of the filters were white and clogged again, and the dust marks remain. And don't get me started on how this thing spits dirt around on bare floors.... Save your money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great vacuum for the price, September 3, 2005
This review is from: Eureka 2971BVZ Altima Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
This is a new vacuum, so it's hard to find any information about it anywhere on the internet. I bought the Wal Mart variant of this model (2981bvz), which is esentially the same but in a bright yellow.

I have to say that after using my grandmothers $400 Dyson, I hated it. It felt cheap and awkward. I borrowed it to do my house about a week and a half ago because all I had up until this point was an old Kirby. After using the Dyson on my hallway, I went back over it with the Eureka and pulled up two more canisters of grit, dust and pet hair. The self cleaning dust wand is also a very cool feature.

This is a very powerful, well made vacuum cleaner. For $80 you can't go wrong here. The "turbo paw"(?) works well, though I think the bristles are a bit too long as the spinning slows when it comes into contact with the surface your are vacuuming. The vacuum also does not do bare floors very well as there is no way to stop the beater brush spinning.

If I had any bare floors to clean (I actually prefer to sweep and mop my kitchen and bathrooms) I may have given this vacuum a 4 out of 5. But as it stands, so far this is a great value and a great product.
