2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I ordered the Eureka 3684D online after reading many, many reviews and could not wait to get it. I was very disappointed. It has a vinyl hose and the tools do not swivel, which makes it vey hard on arms and hands to manuever. I returned it and bought a Kenmore Magic Blue, which was comparable in price and superior in quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great vacuum, October 6, 2006
This review is from: Eureka 3684D TheBOSS Mighty Mite (Kitchen)
Just purchased this item yesterday and tried it out today. Since I didn't see any reviews on it (the one on this site commented on the merchant rather than the actual product), I'm hoping this one will benefit others.

The positive features are:

--Quite powerful, especially for its size and weight.
--Light weight made it easy to carry in one hand.
--Extremely long electrical cord which enabled me to go from room to room without disconnecting it.
--Metal telescoping wand; push on the lever and the wand extends, eliminating need for two poles which connect together.
--Long coil which swivels as necessary to avoid getting tangled.
--Crevice tool and mini brush are stored on the canister
--Hepa filter
--Two floor attachments included
--Automatic motor shut-off feature in case of overheating.

Negative features:

--It does not include a shoulder strap to enable it to be carried if vacuuming while on a ladder or other high area.

--It heated up quite fast, but not to the point of shutting itself off.

I was on a ladder trying to vacuum the inside of a cabinet with the crevice tool and therefore it was hard to hold in one hand while trying to vacuum and hold on to ladder to steady myself.

I attached a strap from a duffle bag and that enabled me to the job. However, the machine began to heat up very fast, and that became a little uncomfortable. Fortunately, the machine is equipped with an automatic motor shut-off feature in case of overheating. I had to vacuum a lot of plaster dust from some recent renovations and it left the cabinet shelves completely clean, as if I had washed them with soap and water; there was no residue of dust particles.

Overall, I am highly satisfied with this purchase. My purchase price was only $99.95 at a local hardware store.

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT FOR SMALL APARTMENTS, June 3, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eureka 3684D TheBOSS Mighty Mite (Kitchen)
I bought this to replace an older "Mighty Mite" model that lasted over ten years without a problem and I finally had to give it away because I wanted a newer model with more power, better attachments and a choice of a HEPA filter and/or micro-filter dust bag over the regular bag.

It turned out to be more than I expected and I am very satisfied with my purchase. Gone are the plastic extension wands and replaced with metal ones that lock in position. The attachments are precision designed for corners, cracks, upholstery, drapes and dusting the top of electronics and shelves. A wider floor attachment with a powerful edge suction makes easy work of both carpets and hard floors. The electric cord (which raps neatly underneath the canister is several feet longer than my old model and so is the hose leading from the canister that you attach your tools to. That gives me more freedom to move around a room. It also comes with a new tool called the "power claw", that generates an impressive further increased suction for upholstery, bedding and pillows where dust-mites live (don't worry, the micro-filter will trap them along with fleas and flea eggs if you have pets). It has a big on/off foot switch on top, a blow port and it's all wrapped up in a candy-apple red canister that's a delight to look at if you remember the 50's.

Its only fault is that when using the HEPA filter along with the micro-filter bags its going to heat up; that's only common sense when air is being forced through two dense filtering systems; and it will automatically shut-off. To by pass that feature _safely_ I use the micro-filters which will trap all that I listed above and the HEPA occasionally when I want to purify the air as I dust.

I expect this model to last another ten years at least, that is, unless I wear it out first because it's such a pleasure to use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Overheats, November 28, 2007
This review is from: Eureka 3684D TheBOSS Mighty Mite (Kitchen)
I had owned a Eureka Mighty Mite for 20 years and used it constantly. It was time to replace it and this seemed like a newer model of the one I had previously. The big problem with this one is that it overheats after no more than 10 minutes of use and then automatically shuts down. This makes it virtual unusable as it barely stays on long enough to vacuum a single room. I now use my Miele upright instead which I recommend over this. Too bad because I really liked my old Eureka.

Pure function and CONTAINED dirt. Thank God they still make a vac with a real dirt bag, disposable and all that. Much neater than the bagless trend.

4.0 out of 5 stars I've had this 18 months now..., May 21, 2008

...and I like it. It's a solid, inexpensive vacuum for someone who doesn't have a lot of money to spend.

Pluses: lightweight, so it's easy to carry up/down stairs; very powerful; great for hard floors; attachments are useful; bag easy to insert/remove.

Minuses: hose tends to pinch; cord winder is underneath and awkward -- you have to turn it over to wind/unwind; not great for carpets.

If you want to use it for carpets, get the "claw" (or paw, not sure what they call it) attachment, which works well on upholstery so you would get more use out of it than just carpets.

I love this vacuum. Light, easy and hose is long. Great for hard to reach places. Easy to carry around. I appreciate the extra mico filter. I had one when i was in school and it worked as good as this one. AWESOME!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Have had this vacuum for 10 years - great for hard floors!, December 3, 2007
This review is from: Eureka 3684D TheBOSS Mighty Mite (Kitchen)
I love this vacuum! Great suction (even after 10 years) - works like a charm on hard floors or flat rugs - only drawbacks are performance on thicker carpeting (really need a powered brush model for those), and the bags (which aren't always easy to find).

3.0 out of 5 stars Good suction but cheap, bad hose, January 23, 2009

I've had this vacuum for over a year now. It sucks up dirt very well and even does a pretty good job with dog hair on certain rugs (though not all). However, the hose is made of the flimsiest, cheapest plastic and is constantly kinking while I vacuum so I suddenly lose suction and hear a roaring noise. It's getting worse and worse--I'm considering trying to track down another Eureka hose that might fit it? It's too bad they had to scrimp so much on the plastic and not use a thicker, sturdier ply. I also agree with the other reviewer about the cord--it gets tangled a lot, could also be better designed.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eureka 3684D TheBOSS Mighty Mite (Kitchen)
I bought this vacuum to replace an aging Mighty Mite. This is at least the third version I have owned over the past 20 years or so. I have used these not as a principal vacuum (love my Dyson) but for small jobs because they are very maneuverable and efficient. I now wanted one with a HEPA filter which this has. However, as the years have gone on these vacuums have become ever cheezier. I admit that the new one is lighter than the older versions but that is because it is 100% plastic. The old one had sturdy metal parts and a nice thick hose. The plastic hose on this model is so thin and fragile it kinks and snags unless one is very careful with it. I know it will not last very long. And so, although it does the job it is supposed to do, for the moment I cannot give it more than three stars. The older versions are SO MUCH BETTER.

Oh, and I should point out that although I ordered the Mighty Mite 3684D that is not what I was was sent. What in fact arrived was something called the Eureka Pet Lover. After some research I kept this version since it looked identical to the 3684D except for color.
