Named for both its bronze color and for its power, this 600-watt hand vacuum is compact, lightweight, and comes with a dusting brush, crevice brush, and 20-inch flexible hose. The tools can be attached directly to the vacuum or to the hose. The vacuum is only 9 inches long and weighs just 3.2 pounds. An adjustable shoulder strap is included so the vacuum can easily be carried around the house or garage if the attachments are being used with the hose. A 15-foot power cord gives plenty of reach for cleaning drapes or the interior of an SUV. The bagless vacuum employs a large cup with a filter to capture dust; both the cup and the filter can be washed. The vacuum carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

I bought this vaccum while I was in college. I lived (and still do) in an apartment that was partially carpeted, but not enough to warrant buying a full-size vaccum. So I opted for this one because it is compact and inexpensive, albeit skeptical that it might not have enough power.

Not only were my fears allayed, but I was actually impressed. I've had it for a couple of years and it is more than adequate to clean the carpet (with no heavy soiling, of course). I even use it to clean in between furniture, to suck up the dust bunnies in my computer, and even to clean my car. The cable length is ample, it comes with many useful accessories, and it is so easy to clean out the dust compartment.

My only gripe is that it is extremely loud. If you live in an apartment, I definitely would advise not to use it after-hours.
