The Belt Will Work for a Long Time If Properly Adjusted,
By
This review is from: Eureka 61110B Style "R" Extended Life Vacuum Belt (Kitchen)
What can one say about a belt; it either works or it doesn't.
I've noticed complaints about the belt breaking frequently on the Eureka 4870. I think that is due in large part to the manual operation of the height adjustment. The height should be adjusted to the highest level that actually works on the carpet being vacuumed. If it is adjusted too low, the resistance from the carpet versus the powerful motor on the 4870 stresses the belt too much and it breaks. I've used the same belt on my 4870 for well over two years and it seems to be as good as new. I have a fairly thick carpet and adjust the height to the next to the highest position for most of the carpeted areas of the house. We have some rugs and other carpeted areas where I need to drop the height down, but usually the third level down from the highest works well on those. Properly adjusted the 4870 cleans very well, fluffs up the carpet, and extends the belt life. The bottom line on this is if you don't stress the belt by adjusting the height too low for the carpet; the belt can last for years.

I use my vacuum most commonly on a room that has indoor/outdoor carpet. So the height adjustment is one or two notches away from bare floor. With this adjustment the very first time I used the vacuum I broke a belt!!! I believe it resulted from putting the vacuum back in the upright locked position while the vacuum was still on and the brush was still spinning. Doing this seems to put a great amount of stress on the brush spinning process. Therefore causing the belt to snap!
I would suggest ALWAYS turning the vacuum off before putting it in the upright locked position. Just in case I forget, I bought two more belts!

I bought this replacement belt plus (2) HEPA filters from Amazon.
Free Super Saver shipment arrived 3rd day after order placement. All parts were all genuine Eureka. NOTES Recommend buying from Amazon (they were not the default vendor, I had to click the button under "More buying choices"). I would buy again.

Not the real thing,

The belts that I received are not Eureka originals rather a generic brand and they do not work as well. They are slightly bigger and so they fit loose on the vac. I have already had to use 2 of them because the first one slipped off and burnt.
Not happy with my purchase.

After wasting several hours going from one store to another (all licensed Eureka dealers BTW) I finally had the good sense to search for this on Amazon. Bingo. Five minutes later I have what I need. I little pricey for a strip of rubber, but cheaper than a new vacuum.

The original belt lasted for seven years. The picture for the belt shows it is a "genuie" Eureka "extended" life belt. What a joke, the belt broke after the first use. Totally waste my time and money.

Broke after two months,

I bought this belt about two months ago and installed it with no problem. It worked fine for about two months and then snapped. Don't waste your money. And as a note to the first reviewers info about adjusting the height properly for my carpet, I do, so that was not the issue. This belt was useless. I am now in search of another replacement!

Eureka Type R belt,

Looked locally and felt the prices were too high (approx 2x). I paid a much more reasonable price and shipping cost for a replacement item. I hope that this belt will last a similar time to the previous one (approx 4yrs). Straightforward to install.

Is this the right belt?,

I'm hoping this is a true 3 star rating, and not less. I received the belt in an envelope, there was no packaging for the belt itself, so there is no way of knowing if it's the right size. Also there is no way of knowing if it's truly a "Eureka" belt as shown in the picture or if it's a generic version. My guess is generic. I would think it would have had a plastic bag on it marking what it was... or at least some markings on the belt itself. I have an older vacuum and was ordering other parts (bags, filters, etc), so I also ordered a "just in case" belt. I guess I will just have to wait and see if this one will work if/when the belt actually breaks.

The belt broke AGAIN!!,

Right after the belt breaking might not be a good time to rate this..., or maybe it is.
At the rate we are going through belts on this machine, I'm not inclined to buy this vacuum again when we need to replace it. Granted - the vacuum is getting old and beat up. Perhaps it is something wrong there. The height adjustment doesn't seem to work right. It adjusts some, but not significantly. Maybe that is the problem. Whatever it is, is frustrating! The belts cost too much and last too little. If they don't break, they stretch. Either way, with a broken or stretched belt, the vacuum doesn't work. |
