5.0 out of 5 stars Solo in the Snow
For the past 8 years...this is my go-to tent for solo/winter trips. I don't think there's a better 2-person/4-season tent for the money! This tent (like my Timberlines) is free-standing which means I can pitch the tent and then move it around until I find just the right spot before staking the guylines and vestibules. I cannot say enough about the features. Double...

3.0 out of 5 stars good tent but water got in
Got the tent for a road trip in California. I wanted to test the tent against rain. I set up the tent and the rain came...not too heavy but all day long. At the end of the day I found some water inside. I'm not sure how it got there...perhaps condensation from an open vent on the site (of course I put the top rain caver on top). I assume there is no perfect tent...

Double vestibules for gear, lots of extra vents that can zipped closed or left open depending on weather conditions and lots of accessory pockets to keep small items off the floor. The tent is rated for 2 people but you won't have room for much gear other than bedrolls. I use it most for solo trips and then the pack and the dog both fit, too! When I need more space...I use my K-2XT (a 3-person winter camping palace)...see my review for more on that one!

4.0 out of 5 stars So far so good, March 27, 2011

This review is from: Eureka! Alpenlite 2XT - Tent (sleeps 2) (Sports)
I received this tent on the third Friday in March. I immediately pitched it in the backyard for a little pre-backpacking weekend test run (my three and four year old boys love this!) Please note, the included instructions were very confusing. I ended up crumpling them and winging it. Without the instructions, the setup is a snap. All poles and parts are intuitively shaped and appear to be of very high quality. Start to finish in five minutes. Even quicker once you get the hang of it (staking one corner makes things much easier in the wind!)
Living in the mountains of Western North Carolina, we still see chilly overnight temperatures this time of year. Friday night was no exception. The temp hovered around freezing from midnight till dawn. With the two top vents and the front and back vents cracked, the boys and I were very cozy in our three-season sleeping bags. Halfway through the night, my older son had a fit of gas. The linger effect was very prolonged with the upper vents in the "cracked" position. Opening every vent as wide as possible and making howling eww! noises immediately remedied the situation. I suppose this is a testiment to the legendary ventilation properties of this tent...Coziness was re-achieved approximately ten minutes after returning the vents to the dangerous "cracked" position.
I have ordered a ground pad to place underneath the tent. I will list two reasons for my decision. First, the floor of the tent seems very thin. I worry that it could become damaged by rocks or sticks on the ground. The second reason for getting the ground pad is because I noticed some condensation beneath my sleeping bag when I awoke in the morning. It would be best described as a dampness. I guess it's possible that I had an accident while sleeping. It's been known to happen. But i dont think so because my sleeping bag was otherwise dry. Eureka recommends applying a seam sealing compound to the floor and rain fly. I have purchased a tube and will be doing so shortly.
Overall, I am very pleased with this tent. It easily fits two adults and one small child or one adult and two small children. Gear is safely stored outside the front and back of the tent beneath the rain fly. I would highly recommend this product to anyone without flatulence-prone youngsters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Little Tent, October 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I use this tent when cycling and it is a good tent for one person and his/her gear. I just returned from a ten night trip on which it was pitched/taken down daily, and it performed well, never leaking or even getting damp inside including two nights of steady, heavy rain. The multiple vent system prevented condensation during many hours inside. It does tend to get a bit warm during hours in the sun. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good little tent at a somewhat lower end price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rock Solid in 50 mph Wind, October 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eureka! Alpenlite 2XT - Tent (sleeps 2) (Sports)
With wind gusting over 50mph and other tents around me flapping like sails and snapping poles, this tent was a bomb shelter. I used all 50 guy lines (slight exaggeration). The tent is heavy, has one small vestibule, and would be a tight fit for two people. For one person with gear, it is a good winter tent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eureka Alpenlite - Outstanding!, September 3, 2010

This little tent is just outstanding... every little detail has been thought of and well made. Looking forward to many years of solid camping adventures using it.

IF.. and I say IF ... there were one thing to change it would be the toggle ties on hte tent flaps... they are just a bit too shory and I would prefer to tie a bow knot instead of slipping the toggle through a loop... very very minor.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this tent!, November 26, 2011

This tent stays so warm in the snow, and is nice and airy in the Summer. It fits 1 very well, with 2 it's a bit small unless you like to snuggle. The pack is light and it goes up very easy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very good cold weather tent, June 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eureka! Alpenlite 2XT - Tent (sleeps 2) (Sports)
I've had this tent out a few times in snow storms and freezing temps and it held up great; shed the snow, handled the wind and stayed warm. You will get a good amount of condensation if you don't vent it a bit but it doesn't take long to figure out what it takes to stay warm and prevent condensation.

Both vestibules are smallish...I wonder why Eureka! bothered with the rear vestibule since you can only access it from the outside and it's only large enough for a pair of boots.

One of the door zipper stitching is beginning to come apart. Seems pretty shoddy for a tent in this price range that is only in it's second season of light use.

Would give it 3.5 stars if the ratings allowed it. Eureka! should bring the price down or the quality up if they want 5 star ratings on this tent IMHO.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tent, March 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eureka! Alpenlite 2XT - Tent (sleeps 2) (Sports)
I have use it very little but what I have seen so far is that it is a great tent. I was looking for a 4-season tent and buying this one was a great call. It looks really nice, you can choose whether or not to put the extra cover on it(depending on where are you camping and how the weather is like), and the space inside can fit 2 people easily and still lot's of room for your stuff.
You do need a mat or something, like in any other tent out there to make it a more comfortable sleeping experience. But with a nice sleeping bag you might be able to pull it off, just like in the old camping days.
Overall is a great tent. I cannot wait to use it in more extreme weather but until then, it's great!
