A time-tested winner,

This review is from: Eureka Boss Upright Vacuum, 1934B (Kitchen)
I just moved into an apartment with a new synthetic carpet that sheds like a pack of afghan hounds; it choked my bagless vacuum in under a minute. I needed a sturdy, no-frills, bagged vacuum like the Montgomery Ward upright I used for over 20 years before it died.
This model was almost identical, and now that I've had it for a few weeks, I'm happy as a clam. It has an old-fashioned rotating brush/beater roller, 5 carpet height adjustments, great suction for 5 amps, and comes pre-fitted with a humongous disposable liner bag (type F&G), plus a spare belt for the roller. Some parts that used to be steel have been replaced with thick plastic, but it seems plenty sturdy, and it's much lighter to maneuver and carry than my old all-steel model. The on/off button and lock/unlock for the handle are both on the base, so they're foot controls; carpet height is adjusted by a dial on the front of the base. The long cord (20 feet or so) doesn't retract, you just wind it over hooks on the handle. The spring-attached fabric bag has a full-length zipper, inside which the disposable bag (which fills the cover from end to end) slides on with another spring. Quick, simple. One pass with this puppy picked up enough carpet fluff missed by the bagless to knit a throw rug, but there's still plenty of room left for future dirt. It's also a lot less noisy than my smaller bagless. The only qualm I had in buying this was the lack of attachments for cleaning upholstery & suchlike, but I found an inexpensive accessory kit made for it (crevice tool, round dust brush, upholstery brush, extension tubes, looooong flexible hose) right here on Amazon: the "Electrolux Home Care 60E 6-Piece Deluxe Tool Set," so my joy is complete. Though the image on this page looks rather green, the vacuum is actually jet black, and the bag is a black-white-red random print. It comes in a flat box, minor assembly required. Highly recommended for those who remember how good the old vacuums were, don't want to spend a fortune just to clean their carpets, or are into retro styling.

A Great Floor Cleaner,

It seems now days that everything has to be a Swiss Army Knife. Very few products do just one thing well. This is such a product. It cleans floors, bare or carpeted. I am an engineer and I love the way this vacuum cleaner is designed. Air flow is straight through to a very large bag. Don't get fooled by the 5 amp motor when the big heavy machines have 12 amps. Because of the straight air flow it isn't using power to get the air around corners. through small hoses, and out limited bag area. I have a 12 amp Hover and this Eureka cleans better. The 5 amp motor is also quieter and much lighter. This vacuum weighs only 11 pounds and is very maneuverable. The large area bags do a good job of filtering the air so you get no dust odor. The foot controls on the base for the handle and power are convenient and easy to operate. I guess because this is an old design that has been around a long time, Eureka doesn't advertise it and it is hard to find in stores. Believe me, it is worth looking for.

My mother has been cleaning houses (including LOTS of vacuuming) for years. She used a model identical to this one for almost 15 years (HEAVY use) and she cried the day it died. I began a frantic search for a replacement immediately. Finally found one here and was thrilled. Received the product quickly and was very excited to discover that the quality was the same as my mother's previous Eureka. Great product!!

I like the non nonsense approach to this vacuum cleaner. I would buy it again. However, the angle of the handle release is not low enough for getting under a coffee table. Good cleaning power though. Also, you need an extension cord if you have a house. You also have to buy replacement bags at a vacuum cleaner store as they are a special type, but they are not that expensive. This vacuum does the job with less weight than carrying around all of those tools that you don't use anyway. Easy to store.

This vacuum is lightweight and works great on carpeting. It sucks up just about everything: pet hair, dirt, even food crumbs under the table. It's super powerful like a cannister type vacuum and the vacuum cleaner bags are cheap. It may be old-school, but it's durable and light weight. I love it!

My original vacuum had a hepa filter on it that needing replacing and apparently the manufacturer no longer made them. I ordered this vacuum because all it needed was a bag. I am very pleased with it. It is fairly quiet for a vacuum cleaner, my old model used to scream like a banshee, and it doesn't have a bunch of hoses wrapped around it constantly coming loose like my old model. It cleans the carpet just as well as the old model.
If you just need to vacuum the floor, this model is great.

A little cheaply made,

I was looking for a cheap but decent vacuum. I was missing the old hoover from the past. A carpet installer showed up on the job with this vacuum and said it was great and he had it for years. Thought I would try it out, since retail employees go through vacuums like nothing. So for it seems to work very well. Highly recommend for the price and job it does.

I purchased this because of the rave reviews for such an inexpensive vacuum. I received a 1934B Boss Upright instead of the 1934A that I had ordered here. After contacting the seller, I was told that the B model has replaced the A model and there are no differences between the two. According to the 1934A picture on this site, the 1934B is a different color (grey bag and dark grey base) with different logos. Based on my browse today, the seller I purchased this from is no longer selling this item so hopefully you won't have the same issue. Long and short of it - this review is for the 1934B.
Pros: 1. It has great suction and is very lightweight. Cons: 1. The handle doesn't fit securely in the base and it tends to move ever so slightly while base is stationary. The chord is short. 2. I would pay an extra few bucks to have the upper hook that the chord wraps around for storage pivot for quick chord release. 3. The horseshoe-shaped deal attached to the plug end of the chord that is supposed to allow you to secure the plug end of the chord to the rest of the stowed chord is too small. Instead of a tidy, tightly wrapped chord after I'm done vacuuming, I have a loose end hanging on the floor ready to be stomped on by my little ones. Would I purchase this product again? It's better than the 25 year-old Kenmore I was using before, but I think any vacuum would be. I find myself frustrated by the chord quirks every time I use it, so I'm going to say no, I wouldn't purchase it again.
