Much Better than some of its reviews!,
This review is from: Eureka 972B Compact Canister Vacuum, Yellow (Kitchen)
I almost didn't give this vacuum a try because of the very mixed reviews it got. This is a great vacuum, you just have to know what you want from it! I would NOT reccomend the dirt devil power stick which i tried first, it was powerful enough, but extremely loud, flimsy, and blew strong hot air out both sides of it that blew all the dirt away.
I train horses, have 2 large dogs, two small kids, one cat, and a husband. we live in the country, and my floors get as dirty as any i've ever seen! I have mostly tile floors with deep grout grooves, which other small stick vacs never have enough power to clean. This eureka has plenty of power!!! pet hair, crumbs, arena sand, litter... even out of the tile grooves! I have one small area rug that it does good enough on, though I would not reccomend this vacuum for any one that has more carpet as the vacuum head does not have a motorized beater bar. The cord is a little short- oh well :) it is perfect for cleaning cars too. my model came with a "power paw" attatchment which does have a rotating bristle bar (powered by the suction) that is quite powerfull and the perfect size for cleaning vehicle carpets, stairs with carpet, or couch surfaces. the extension/telescoping "wand" is made from metal, the cord rewind is strong, the "exhaust" points out the back, the bags a little on the small side, but not to the point you should rule this vacuum out (they are a little smaller than a brown paper lunch sack). I actually prefere the bags to a bagless because of the mess that becomes of the dirt cups and filters; this has MUCH cleaner air coming out, too! In regards to other reviews- This vacuum does have a crevis and apholstry tool, they are housed under the body of the vacuum at the back end. There is also a sliding plate on the handle that you can open if you want to decrease power for delicate jobs... try shutting that if you dont think its powerful enough. Don't listen to the bad reviews- If you want a vacuum for hard floors and above floor cleaning, there is no reason not to get this vac if you want to spend under $100. Hope you give it a try!

For the money, this is a great little vacuum. I have had the Eureka Mighty Mite for years which I actually love. I bought this for work and it's got quite a bit of power. I don't love the hardwood floor attachment, and the #1 problem with this is that the bag holds about 2 tablespoons of dirt. So, that's why I figure this is so inexpensive. They are making their money off of the bags for this baby, because they need to be changed at least once a week they fill up so fast. But that's my only complaint!

This is a powerful & convenient vacuum (for bare floors),

This vacuum is powerful (11 amps) & convenient (small & lightweight with a retractable power cord). It is fantastic on bare floors, which is why I bought it. At $60 (and no shipping) it was a great buy. If I had to change anything, I would make the power cord longer and the on-board tools larger. I would purchase this again in a heartbeat.

This successor to Eureka's Mitey Mite is a decent, if not better looking machine. The cord could be longer, but that would probably jam up the automatic recoil, which barely manages to swallow the cord as is. The long hose compensates in part for the cord's shortness. I don't recommend this as a first or only vacuum unless your needs are minimal. Rugs deserve an upright or something with a rotating beater bar to get the grit flying and into the airstream. But for stairs, molding, picture frame dusting, and automobile detailing, this baby is spot on. Plus, you can find it in the dark.

I purchased this vacuum to replace another small Eureka canister vacuum that finally quit working after 21 years. I was a bit concerned about the mixed reviews (some very positive, some very negative), but this model seemed to have the features I was looking for, so I took the plunge. I've been using the Eureka 972B for about a year now, and I've found that it does some things extremely well, and others very poorly, which probably accounts for the mixed reviews. Here's a summary of my experience:
- The 972B excels at quick cleanups of hard floors. The vacuum head is cleverly designed and almost seems to float over the floor -- it swivels smoothly and is very easy to maneuver. I've had no problem with the hose/wand coming detached (a common complaint on other models), the suction is quite strong, and the automatic cord wind-up is very slick. The canister part of the vacuum maneuvers much better than my previous Eureka -- the wheel design allows it to move with a simple tug, and it's not prone to tipping. - The dust bag is very small -- about a quarter the size of the bag on my old Eureka, despite the fact that the overall machine is the same size. This is fine for light vacuuming, but it will fill very quickly if you are vacuuming high-volume stuff (e.g., lots of pet hair). - The 972B does an excellent job of cleaning hard floors (vinyl, hardwood, tile). It does not perform well on carpet, though, since the head does not have a beater bar. Also, fuzz from the carpet seems to fill the small dust bag very quickly. In a nutshell, I'm delighted with this Eureka for light cleaning of hard floors. I would not use it on carpet, though, and it doesn't have the bag capacity to do "high-volume" cleaning. If you have a small home, with little carpeting and no pets, it's great; if you have a larger home with lots of carpet and long-haired pets, this small vacuum won't be up to the challenge. For my cleaning needs, it's been terrific -- just what I needed, and nothing more, at a good price.

Great supplementary vacuum cleaner,

Canister vacuum cleaners come in the $49 to the $600 range. Some reviewers fault this machine for not working as well as machines in the several hundred dollar range, while it would be more apt to compare this machine to ones in the $49 range.
I purchased this to replace a Eureka Rally from several decades ago. That machine served me well, and probably could have been fixed with moderate effort, but it hardly seemed worth it given the price of this replacement. My old machine was larger, louder, and a bit less powerful. It was slightly more expensive than this replacement, even without factoring in inflation. I had a good idea of what I needed. The next task was figuring out where on the price spectrum an appropriate replacement would lie. I was at first skeptical that something at the low range would suit my needs, but I'm glad I got this. My old machine gave me an idea of what features to look for. That one lacked automatic cord rewind, had a hose that was about 2 feet shorter, had attachments similar to Attachment Kit plus an additional larger floor brush, and on board storage for the upholstery nozzle, dusting brush and crevice tool. The 972B is smaller, quieter, more powerful, has a cord rewind, but lacks most of the tools and on board storage for the general ones. Nonetheless, it was a good deal considering that I could use my old attachments. Plus, this one has a slightly longer hose, and the extension rod is a metal telescoping one instead of fixed length plastic ones. I was impressed by how much suction I got from a machine so small and (relatively) quiet. I was able to do a good job vacuuming cat hair off of draperies. It was from a section hidden behind a couch where years of contact made it as formidable a task as cat hair could present. I found that it did a good overall job on bare floors, carpeted stairs, moldings (its on board mini crevice tool and brush were ideal for this) as well as other hard to reach areas such as carpet/baseboard junctions. I have three upright vacuum cleaners and do not expect to use this one for general carpet cleaning. It can do the task, but this machine is better suited as a supplementary machine than for your primary carpet cleaner. It would take too many passes, especially for a very large room. For its intended purpose, and even touch up carpet cleaning, runners, and hallway areas this machine is well suited. In cases when you need pure suction rather than rotating brushes, this is an excellent machine. If it came with all the attachments I use regularly, I would give it five stars. However, for the price I paid, that's probably not a reasonable expectation. Neither is on board storage if you want a machine so compact. Even if I can't fault the machine for it, you might want to consider whether a more expensive machine with more attachments is a better solution than buying this one and getting other attachments separately. You might still consider this one a good deal, given that the attachments I use regularly are just a few dollars each directly from the manufacturer. The included multi-purpose tool might be all you need for the tasks that floor attachments could fill, but not if those tasks would be your main reason for purchasing this. As a supplementary machine, this is ideal for me.

Huge Disappointment,

I actually own at least 5 different kinds of vacuums that I use for various jobs around the house, and have long been a fan of Eureka vacuum cleaners. My little 3.0 HP canister is at least 20 years old and even though the bearings are shot in the motor, I refuse to give it up because there is nothing on the market that can replace it.
So, when we needed a light duty vacuum for the hardwood floors at the office, I purchased this little vac with confidence, figuring that at 11 amps, which is only 1 amp short of most uprights, I couldn't go wrong. The motor seems to be very powerful, with quite a bit of suction at the hose end -- until you put the floor attachment on it. I don't understand how the floor attachment can cut the suction power down to practically nothing, but this vacuum will barely suck up the dust bunnies floating on the floor. And you can forget about carpeting. My battery powered Dust Buster has more suction power than this vacuum. The vacuum also does not come with tools such as an upholstery brush or crevice tool. Sadly, this Eureka vacuum lives up to its negative consumer reviews. A great big thumbs down for this one!! Don't waste your money.

miserable vacuum,
By mornings on horseback (new jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eureka 972B Compact Canister Vacuum, Yellow (Kitchen)
I vacuumed up a broken light bulb one evening.
Next day, I noticed broken glass underneath the vacuum in the closet where I'd stored it. Also, the plastic exhaust/vent cover is not rigid enough to stay well attached. As a result, my leg gets blasted by the exhaust (and dust, presumably) as it bypasses the vent. Price is cheap $50, so I wasn't expecting much. But this little vac delivered even less. I am returning it after just a couple weeks. I will try the Eureka 3670G, which I am hoping is similar to my old Mighty Mite (which was a great, cheap little vacuum).

Very Powerful,
By Cliff (Tucson, Arizona) - See all my reviews It's perfect for someone like me-- some carpet and a lot of hardwood and tile. Someone with a large house with a lot of carpet may require something with a rotating brush. My problem with uprights is that the rotating brushes always get stuck or a the belt breaks so quickly. The great thing about this vacuum is that it's very simple. It has no rotating brush, only powerful suction. And the best part: NO MORE SWEEPING! If you have small kids it's a must! Click on the floor nozzle petal for the floor brush and it thoroughly cleans the floor without blowing the dirt around like an upright! What a difference when moping! My favorite part is that it's very quiet. My poodle and Chihuahua would get so scared from our old vacuum. They don't even flinch when I turn on the Eureka Maxima. It's also very light, so those who have problems lifting this is perfect! I used to have to move my couch away from the wall- now I can easily maneuver the floor nozzle under furniture and other hard to reach places. The only CONS that I can think of are that the cord is not as long as I would like. The bag is also very small and needs to be changed often. You need to buy the bags online, being that most stores don't carry the type "T" bag. That's it!

Dynamite Little Vac!!,

I bought this for my mother and it's great. She lives in a 950 sq.ft. apartment which is carpeted except for kitchen and baths. Her carpet is low pile and this vac does a great job on it. Some of the reviews say it's not good on carpet but it has such a strong suction that it is more than adequate for low pile. Be sure not to let your drapes too close to it -- it's that strong. I wonder if the folks who complained about the suction know to use the suction control.?. Anyway, for $58 and free shipping, it's the best deal out there. PLUS, Amazon got it to me within two days of purchase. I recommend this little workhorse.
