Better than I expected!!,

This review is from: Eureka! Copper Canyon 1512 - Tent (sleeps 12) (Sports)
I bought this tent in preparation for an overnight camping trip for a family of 5, including a 1 year old. Of course as soon as it arrived the kids wanted to sleep in it THAT night. Well, it was quite the rainy night - ALL NIGHT LONG, light rain to downpours. After setting it up in the drizzle, and wiping out the inside, this tent remained bone dry all night with the factory taped seams. Water just beads off the fly, outside walls, and storm flaps over the windows. I was very impressed with this aspect of the tent. Although the rainfly does not cover much of the long sides of the tent, as I mentioned before, water just beaded and slid off the fly, and down the sides of the tent.Ventilation was excellent - I was able to open the tops of the storm flaps on the two windows on opposite short sides, in the pouring rain. The fly over these two windows extends out from the tent far enough to protect these windows from even driving rain. The entire top of the tent is mesh and allowed for plenty of air circulation. The fly has a great feature (in my opinion) - it has four see-through panels at the peak of the tent which allow you to look through the mesh tent roof, to the sky!! If you prefer not to, the tent itself has a zipper panel that zips over the mesh roof in the areas where the fly has the see-through panels. The fly also has the Eureka! logo watermarked into the the outside surface of the fly. The quality of the materials is excellent, as I would expect from Eureka!. Zippers work very well, fabrics are substantial, and the size is wonderful. I am 6'6" and I can stand easily throughout the tent. The tent setup easily and all the pieces fit together well. I used a 16'x20' tarp underneath and folded the rest under the tent. I have not yet used the divider for 2 rooms, the awning, or the included gear loft. It was obvious to me that a lot of thought went into this tent and it shows in the quality and features. I am looking forward to many years of fun.

Eureka Copper Canyon 1512 - Finally got to use it!,

This review is from: Eureka! Copper Canyon 1512 - Tent (sleeps 12) (Sports)
We just used this tent over 5 days in the Colorado mountains and have nothing but glowing things to say about it. This is lengthy, but hopefully helpful for potential buyers!!SET-UP: We did a dry run at home when we bought the tent and, including laying out all the hardware and whatnot, it took us about 20 minutes in a mild breeze. At the campsite, it was up in 15 tops. In perfectly calm weather, one person could set this up, but it's a much easier task with two. SIZE AND COMFORT: This is absolutely one of the tents best attributes. The 1512 is a true 15'x12' tent, as advertised. We had a king size air mattress, two blow-up side tables, a 36" diameter table (with two big heaters on top), the dog's sleeping crate and two giant hanging shelf systems and had more than enough room to sleep 3 or 4 additional people. Being in this tent is like having a master bedroom while you're camping - you NEVER need to bend over and the center height of 7' requires tip-toes to reach (we hung a small lantern and it was a little challenging to get it up there). We lit two Coleman ProCats about an hour before we turned in each night and the tent was a comfy 60ş or so by the time we went to bed. The temperatures outside dipped into the 30s by 9:00pm. The entire roof of the tent is mesh (which is why I didn't have too many reservations about running two propane heaters) and the fly is elevated about 6" above it allowing for plenty of ventilation. For safety measures, we kept a battery operated carbon monoxide detector next to us. The rainfly includes a large plastic center section that enables light to shine into the tent during the day; there are nylon windows that can zip open to allow in the light or be closed if you don't want the light. The tent comes with a room divider and several other organizers. We did not utilize these as we wanted to take advantage of the entire floor area. We will, however, use these for future camping trips when we take friends or family along. There are 4 HUGE windows and 2 D-style doors which, when opened together, allow more than adequate ventilation in hot weather. When closed at night, they help retain some heat, although the entire mesh roof enables heat to rapidly escape after the sun sets. As we did, consider a portable heater or two if you're expecting cold nights. There are two power ports that enable you to run an extension cord into the tent - one to the left of each door. They zipper open and closed and have nylon flaps over them to prevent water getting in during rain. We didn't use them, but can appreciate the convenience it would provide for some people. WEATHER: Fortunately, the weather was good during our trip. Each afternoon included some wind (maybe up to 30mph) and the tent held strong. We utilized all guy lines (provided with the tent) and staked all loops. We encountered some light rain two afternoons and some heavy rain for a short time one night. No water made it in the tent. Key to this is keeping all items away from the sidewalls, which is made easy by the sheer size and nearly vertical walls of the 1512. We also used a 16'x12' tarp underneath the tent (folded 1' underneath) and it worked perfectly. OVERALL IMPRESSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: We love the tent and can't say enough about it. Each night when we went to bed, we just stared at the ceiling in awe of such a great tent. The quality construction along with the very reasonable price tag makes this tent a real winner in our books. The only minor gripes - 1. Replace the stakes immediately. In fact, when you order the tent (or buy it), just order good stakes at the same time. Don't wait to even see what they look like. They aren't sufficient. At all. 2. The tent floor is made of the same nylon as the sidewalls. Use a tarp underneath the tent (ALWAYS, regardless) and consider buying a second for inside the tent. We placed a bath towel right inside the door and took our shoes off each time we entered. It wasn't bad, but we'll be getting a tarp for inside. I've posted some exterior and interior photos from our camping trip.

I think I am in love with this tent! There isn't much about it that isn't great. The size is huge, the dividing curtain is nice, it uses a ring/toggle system on the sides of the divider, and also to close the window covers. The room divider is zippered down the middle, and easy to pull back in a curtain fashion when not in use. There is some space on the sides of the divider where it attaches to the tent sides because of the ring/toggle/elastic system it uses, but I don't find it to be a problem. The divider goes all the way to the floor, and there are some small mesh pockets on the bottom of the divider on both sides. It rained when we used the tent, and no water got inside. The only water that was in the tent was condensation on the inside of the doors after a night of frost and a morning of sun. Great ventilation. The skylights are nice, although you can't really see through them clearly. I would recommend a small step stool if you are short, though, to close the skylight covers, hang up the divider, or to put up the gear loft because the tent is so tall, or make sure you do all those things before raising the tent. The tent is easy and quick to put up with two people, but I don't think it would be at all easy with only one person. You really need two people to get the fly over the top. We used the awning in the front to cover our shoes from the rain, but we had to angle one side of the awning down so the rain wouldn't pool on the top of the awning. It would be nice if the awning attached to the rain fly because there is a space between the fly and awning, so if it rains the rain can possibly get right through. And the awning poles just sit on top of the ground, so they are easy to maneuver to change the angle and shape of the awning, but they do use guy lines to anchor them, too. When camping in the backyard we used the E-port for our laptops, and it was very handy. The two room, dual door style was great when my son had a friend sleep over so they had their space and my husband and I had ours and they were able to get out of the tent without bugging us. Because of the tent height, the windows are not possible to be unzipped by a child, which could be a good or bad thing depending on your preference. We were able to find a floor saver made by Eureka in the correct size for this tent. I have seen sites recommending 2 floor savers put together, but Eureka now makes one in a size specific for this tent. Make sure you get a floor saver, it makes a huge difference and will prolong the life of your tent. Oh, and the stakes that come with the tent are pretty junky, I suggest buying some better tent stakes. If you use the awning, the tent uses 15 stakes total. If you aren't going to use the awning, then it uses 12 stakes.

Please improve a few things Eureka!,
This review is from: Eureka! Copper Canyon 1512 - Tent (sleeps 12) (Sports)
I just recently purchased this tent after a tremendous amount of time and online reviews. I chose this tent since it had a lot of room, quality and satisfied customers for the money. The truth is, if you look at a lot of tent reviews, they are mostly positive. I attribute this to the users-camping is fun! So if people enjoy their camping trip and have a great time-they will give credit to their tent too...When I got this, I decided to set it up in our back yard and let the kids sleep in it the first night. Ideal condition-nice weather and the tent set on a perfectly cut, level smooth lawn. I set the ten up according to direction, and when raising the tent one of the elbows snapped! Not sure if this was a weak link, but it was not forced very hard and seem to break from the weight of the tent being raised. The other big issue is the FLOOR. It is made of the same materials as the walls. I read other users comment on this and bought a heavy duty tarp and put it under the tent. Well after one night of expected use including a 4 and 7 year old who took their shoes off inside the tent, I discovered a tear on the floor! Again no stick or stones underneath.. Yes, there are many great qualities that I agree with in the other reviews, but come on! I really don't want to spend my camping vacation worrying about repairs with duct tape and patches. This problems arose with very light use. I will contact customer service and see how they handle it...

Whatever you order examine everything first. The first Eureka Copper Canyon had a pole that was diconnected, so I called Amazon and they apologized and shipped another one asap. It arrived the next evening at no additional charge. Plus the first one went back at their expense. After all that we pre assembled the tent the night before our camping trip. Good thing we did, we needed the run through. The directions were pretty good. Just take your time and look at the poles closely. The tent is huge and fit all 7 of us with room to spare. We used a queen size cot, had a pack n play and a mini frig along with all our gear for 5 kids. My husband loved the eport for his extension cord. We put up the tent in about 15 minutes, after the run through. It rained the first night and half the second day and we kept dry!!! The down side is the entire top of the tent is a screen and Memorial weekend in Michigan gets chilly at night, even with a space heater, had to keep it running all night. It got a little drafty, of course we were on a cot, and the kids were on the ground. They were warm though. Love the doors and all the windows and privacy. I do agree with others about the zippers getting caught in the flaps around the door, not a big deal, just don't rush trying to get in or out. It would catch every so often and then just reverse zip and start again. Now the awning is another story. I'm thinking it's for keeping the sun off, because when it rains it collects water and if youre not careful it could run back toward the tent. We'll figure something out yet. Overall we give this tent a 4, we were pleased with the 4 day camping trip. Taking the tent down was easy too, and it fit right back in the bag, yeah!

Great Tent,

This review is from: Eureka! Copper Canyon 1512 - Tent (sleeps 12) (Sports)
I purchased this tent after reading the reviews. I spent 2 weeks searching for a tent that could stand up to high winds and hours of steady rain, while still providing plent of airflow. I wanted a tent with 3 rooms, so I divided one of the rooms in half, using a sheet hooked on the ceiling hook and window rings. My previous tent and canopy were destroyed during my last camping trip. I did not want to have to use a tarpaulin to keep the rain off the tent while fighting the wind to keep it on. I took about an hour putting it up by myself in a practise run (recommend you take time to read and understand the instructions, especially for the roof poles). Well I got to test it on this Labour day weekend. Friday, Aug 31st, was a rainy day, but the rain halted long enough to put up the tent, however the winds were already beginning to blow. I set up the tent on the north side of 2 trees in case I needed to make a tarpaulin wind break. As I was setting up the side poles on the tent the wind coming from the southwest kept blowing them in toward the tent. So I tied the southern poles, which were on the long side, to the trees instead. Good thing at 11:00 p.m. the wind picked up and I spent the rest of the night watching the tent fight the wind. Winds were gusting to 35 mph. A few times during the night the pole that holds the fly out over the window bent over and touched the window. In the morning my tent was the only one that survived without any wind damage, or tarpaulin to keep the rain out. The weather was fairly good for the rest of the time, and we had lots of breeze coming through those big windows.

We bought this tent to camp with our 2 year old daughter - her first trip. It was WONDERFUL! Very easy to set up and very roomy. We don't like to be crowded in a tent, too close to the walls and not able to stand. THIS TENT WAS GREAT!!! We had an X-Large Pack n Play as well as a King size sleeping bag - all of our gear and enough room for her to play if the weather took a turn. After setting the tent up once, we'll never have to read instructions again, it's THAT easy. Friends had a 2-pole dome tent and ours went up and down just as fast. We love the amount of windows and mesh screen for air - at night, it got a little chilly, but we prepared for that with extra blankets. And, we were able to pack it up in the carry bag with room to spare . . . no struggles. We love this product.

I purchased this tent to replace our smaller tent that we have out grown. If you have put up a medium size tent in the past this one will not give you any trouble. I put it up and took it down myself on a breezy day without any issue. The fly may require a second person to put up.Impressions: Big, easy install, plenty of windows. Flimsy room divider that is hung not zipped in place. The floor seems pretty light weight. No water came in, but it seemed like it might not wear well with non grassy surfaces. In the end we liked the room the tent provided and the relatively ease of putting up/taking down (compared to other tents of that size). Would recommend to others, just get a tarp to put under the tent to protect the floor surface from scratches/punctures.

We just started camping and bought this tent based on customer reviews. This proved to be an outstanding buy as this tent lived up to the reputation described by other customers. The first time we used this tent we experienced 2 days of heavy Florida rain and the tent did not leak. Tent is easy to set up (recommend you practice at home before taking out on a camping trip) and easy to take down. I would recommend this to anyone looking at a good size family tent.

Excellent LARGE Tent, EZ setup!,
By
This review is from: Eureka! Copper Canyon 1512 - Tent (sleeps 12) (Sports)
Set the tent up just glancing at the instructions it is so EZ. The poles are color coded, and the tent pops up easily with two people setting it up. It took 10-15 minutes. It is a HUGE tent with LOTS of room! The main thing I like, is it fit back in the bag when we were done. Seems many tents this is an arduous task, but everything fit in the carrying case very well... Overall for the price of such a large tent, this is an outstanding tent! Like most large tents, it moves around a bit in the wind, but that is normal for a large tent. Cheers, Nigel |
