5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful little vac
I was a bit skeptical about buying this because it only has 3-3/5 volts of power. I had a B&D Dustbuster and it didn't have the power to pick up anymore. I was going to buy a new battery pack for it and found out that I couldn't replace the battery in it. That didn't set too well with me so I looked around for one that I could replace the battery in and I came across...

2.0 out of 5 stars Dust Bunnies and Fur Babies Only, Please
We have hardwoods and a big dog that molts twice a year (blows her coat) so this was purchased just to pick up the seasonal Fur Babies that congregate within hours of vacuuming. The battery has a very short life but I can hit all of the corners before it is finished. Does not pick up cat litter well at all. Fur fills the small cup quickly. The cup is easy to clean, but...

I was a bit skeptical about buying this because it only has 3-3/5 volts of power. I had a B&D Dustbuster and it didn't have the power to pick up anymore. I was going to buy a new battery pack for it and found out that I couldn't replace the battery in it. That didn't set too well with me so I looked around for one that I could replace the battery in and I came across this little Eureka model. I have had a big Eureka upright for a long time and I also have a very old Eureka cannister model that still works great, so I know Eureka is good. But I wondered how much power it could have with only 3-3/5 volts. Well let me tell you, it has a lot of power, even more than the Dustbuster. I like the pop up crevice tool also, it's a very convenient feature. The dustbin is very easy to empty and it has a permanent filter that is washable so no extra filters to buy. The charging base is a little awkward. It would be better to have one that it slides into easier, but that's not a big drawback. If you want something to clean up little messes I can recommend this one. I use it all over the house and it's worked like a champ. It's great for those little messes in the kitchen (no liquids though) and also for stairs or the car.

The cup is easy to clean, but you do have to touch fuzzy contents. The toggle type power switch is distant, awkward and snaps into the "On" and "Off" position -- if you have small hands it may take both of them just to turn it on and/or off. The attached crevice tool is a nice feature. We have had several Handheld Vacs and know their many limitations, this one does do the job i purchased it for. I gave it 2 stars because of it's very light duty, weak suction, short battery life, and awkward design.

Great vaccuum! It sucks up bird feed and most of the kitty litter that finds it's way onto the floor.

I waited a good long time before I reviewed this product. I wanted to make absolutely sure that I knew everything about it before I sang its praises to other possible customers. I must say that I am impressed. First with the suction power. For a handheld vac, it doesn't leave much behind (within reason.) One must consider, of course, that it is not meant to pick up bowling balls or objects too big to comfortably fit into the opening. It is great for dirt, grit, animal hair, rabbit poops, moths, and even spiders, though I would recommend emptying the easily removed bag and filter inside lest the spiders and moths work together to escape and go up your nose while you are sleeping. The charger can be wall mounted, which is nice, though I did not use this feature. It is easy to clean, but the precision suction funnel tube thing did not really come in handy because I had trouble keeping it locked in place. It works perfectly fine without out. Believe me, I did a lot of research reading customer reviews before I decided to try this brand and model out. I was not disappointed. Lastly, the battery in the appliance holds a charge for quite awhile when not in use, and I have left it unplugged for as much as a week between uses and it still did the job. Not so great for use with extremely fine dust particles as the filter is not precise enough. Also I would not recommend using it for wet things. All in all, GREAT JOB!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, January 31, 2009

I'm afraid this vacuum was not powerful enough for my simple needs. It could not pick up any pet fur, nor could it remove cat litter or much of anything else from carpet. I realize small handhelds can't do as good a job as my big corded vacuum, but I expected more from this given the positive reviews. On the plus side, it is lightweight and appears to be easy to clean.

Not as powerful as I was hoping for. Cordless is nice and it is handy for quick pickups. It just doesn't pick up all of the stuff I would like it to. Not a replacement for a shop vac.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not made for fur!, October 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eureka The Boss Cordless Rechargeable Handheld Vacuum Cleaner, 79B (Kitchen)
I bought this vacuum a couple of months ago because I needed a small vacuum to clean the kitty litter that my cat left on the floor after doing his necessities. The price is good for the vacuum, it does enough. It picks up the kitty litter and dust pretty good.

I tried it once when I was cutting my dog's fur... it got stuck and wouldn't suck anything. I had to stick my finger and pull the fur and dust to get it unstuck. After doing that it went back to normal. So it doesn't pick up big clumps of fur, but it might pick up small clumps of hair.

When it starts to run out of battery the suction decreases, but if you keep it charged this will never happen.

The way you empty the contents that you pick up can get a little disgusting. Since there is a filter separating the motor from the compartment where it collects everything, the filter gets dirty with dust and hair. I clean it every time using the nozzle part of the vacuum to knock of the dust and dirt off the filter.

THINGS TO CONSIDER: you have to clean the filter; it has a smaller nozzle attached to it to reach small places; the battery lasts a lot, but when it starts to run out, it looses power; it is meant for cleaning dust and small particles, it won't pick up stuff bigger than a nickle and if it does it might get stuck in the nozzle.

Overall it's a great product for the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars You May As Well Throw Your Money Into the Garbage, October 6, 2011
This review is from: Eureka The Boss Cordless Rechargeable Handheld Vacuum Cleaner, 79B (Kitchen)
I don't have this exact 1 but if it's anything like the red version (exactly the same style, but in red), then it's junk. I own the red 1 and it needs to be recharged WAY TOO OFTEN. You can't use it more than four times without having to fully re-charge it again. Once it gets weak, it won't suck small objects out of a semi-tight corner (like the crevasse between the rug and wall). Don't waste your money on Eureka products. When it comes to electronics, it's usually wiser to spend the few more dollars on the better brand than buy the cheaper one which will have to be replaced quickly.
