The fan works great and it looks amazing.

Getting to that point was a bit of a hassle however, not sure if I got lucky, unlucky, or a bit of both: For one, the lights came with faulty wiring.
Timothy R.
The directions for the installation are awful - average homeowner would not have a clue.

I moved into a foreclosure, and immediately overhauled the kitchen. After tearing down a wall and building a breakfast bar, I wanted to have a stainless steel island hood installed. I researched online extensively, and found that this hood was the best bang for the buck. There are similar hoods by other manufacturers that cost $700-800 more. Yes, you can buy 3 of this type v/s one of the other. The specs are the same on most of the look-a-likes (i.e. 3 speed,304 stainless steel, etc)....but this one has a max 900 cfm blower. That's greater than many of the more expensive types. Since it comes with a year warranty, I felt just as protected as buying any other. One word of advice if you do the self-install. Make sure you have at least one, but 2 helpers will make the mounting easier.
Well, it's been at least 6 months since the install, and the only problem is that I mounted it a little lower than I'd like. Need a 2-3" adjustment. I'll go back and make an adjustment one day, but it's working for now. All is well :-)

3/8/13 UPDATE .......I was here answering someone's question about the hood, so I figured I may as well give an update. Great news so far....nothing to report other than, it works like the day it was mounted, and everyone gives wonderful compliments when they see it.

After considerable research, I selected the Eureka Island Mount Range Vent Hood. The price was almost half of the models available locally at our Home Depot and HHgreg, and I found it's design, aesthetically much more pleasing. The buttons were not digital and simple to use- a plus since it was purchased for installation in one of my nicer rental units. The lights were brighter then one of it's online competitors (who also had a comparable, slightly less expensive unit, however reviews dinged it for it's illumination being more akin to the level of a night light). The two VERY LARGE boxes, actually arrived a little earlier than expected, which was a nice surprise. It took my handyman a few hours to install it. Although tactilely the metal was a little flimsier than expected- visually, once assembled,it was indistinguishable from heavier models. Some of the screws were separated from the other hardware, & taped to the inside of the glass panel -which took my repairman a little while to discover(he was concerned they were missing). So far I have been delighted with this vent- I would be totally ecstatic, if some form of extended warranty with local servicing would be offered. Hopefully, this will not be needed because the idea of having to disassemble this unit and send it back does not sound feasible- I guess buying a new model (since relatively inexpensive) would be my most likely solution.

On the web site, the product appears to offer a great value; but in the long run it is not. (1) the product arrived with the wrong size glass, thus delaying the contractor on my remodel (2) advised Amazon, three weeks later second glass arrives, again wrong glass, contractor charged me for service call and preparing installation again (3) advised Amazon, gave them the cut out size for the glass needed, product arrive within ten days. Contractor could only schedule a weekend install date because he was booked, extra charge for the weekend install. (4) installation book is only good for a fire starter, totally worthless; there are no real installation instructions, common sense, a mechanical mind, and having construction tools/skills are needed for installation. (5) upon the removal of the taped coating on the stainless steel chimney, scratches, and dings were clearly visible (note: this part was placed in a safe place after removing it from the box), the contractor was able to pound out the dings (not completely) but not the scratches; all at an extra cost. (6) after installation, upon the removal of the tape holding one of the lights in, the light came out; the contractor was dismayed at the poor quality of light, and after thirty minutes was able to reinstalled the light without it falling out; extra cost to me. (the only thing holding the light in was the tape, not its internal clips).

Upon final install, the fixture looks good and the fan and lights work well. Note: upon a web search of the product, and the name of the seller, there were no hits. The seller is only known to Amazon (a name search did disclose the name existed, but no address or phone number; so who is the seller?) Good luck in locating better installation instructions, and finding parts.

We were very excited about this product until we started the install. We found several issues with the hood. Several holes had to be drilled, one of the lights was cracked, and the welds broke when metal sheath was picked up to be installed. We are lucky my husband was able to fix all these issues. We did not wish to go to all the trouble of returning this big and heavy purchase. But once it was installed, it looks great and works well.

I recently bought this and installed it with the help of my electrician. Although I bought the carbon filter we ended up venting it through the soffit outside.

The good:
It looks great
It is quiet (in my opinion, I didn't see a sonnes rating anywhere but even at full blast it is not overpowering)
It does a good job of venting.

The bad:
The unit looked like it had been dropped and dented. The bottom part of the hood was crooked and my electrician had to use a hammer on the inside of the unit to get it to align (without this the screws for the glass piece would not fit). There was also a dent at the top where the two pieces of the chimney were slid together for shipping resulting in a big scratch. We were able to mitigate this by flipping the top part of the chimney (since we were venting outside we didn't need the vents at the top of the chimney), and by using a pair of pliers wrapped in tape to flatten the dent on the edge of the chimney that was exposed. You can barely tell it was there.
All 4 of the lights in the hood were barely attached and we had to disassemble and reassemble them so they wouldn't hang down.
However: Although I was past the return period (since it sat in my garage for a while before I got around the installing it) the seller, Master Kitchen Solutions, worked with me and made things right. They also let me return the carbon filters I bought since I was able to vent to the outside.

To summarize:
It looks great, it works great, and although it was a hassle I would buy again if I were to move into a new house and need another vent hood like this. I deducted 1 star because of the damage and the hassle, but I kept it at 4 stars because they took care of me.

See my attached picture of the installed hood.
