Where's the filter cartridge?, January 19, 2005
This review is from: Eureka 5841 LiteSpeed Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
Some assembly required. If you buy it shipped it will come in two parts, and god help you if you don't have a drill because I just couldn't do it with a screwdriver.
This product boasts a True HEPA filtration system but it doesn't come with a True HEPA CARTRIDGE filter. It comes with a thin sponge thing that it claims to filter out 100% of allergens and etc. That's what the -1 stars is for. If you're going to boast a True HEPA filtration system, come with a friggin' HEPA cartridge. If I wanted a sponge in there I'd get one from the kitchen.
I have something called the Vacuum Cleaner Hair Ball of Doom. Essentially, I have long, thick, black hair that winds onto the brush roll inside the vacuum and then burns up the parts inside when it can no longer spin. I am happy to report that disassembly of the brush roll is easy (three screws, two if you have nimble fingers, leave them off cause they're not necessary to hold things together) and the brush roll itself is not wood, but plastic. It also comes with an extra rubber belt for mechanically spinning the brush roll.
The onboard tools are easily slotted and put away. And yes, there's one for the dusting brush head. The hose adapter for onboard tools is flexible and rubbery, not stiff and like the loch ness monster that you have to constantly battle with for control.
The powerful 12 amp motor does what it is expected and killed the dust and dirt on my medium-pile carpet. Product has a humongous dust cup. The 15 inch wide path means you spend less time covering your room and more time dusting with the onboard tools. Statically charged spin duster means everything will stick to the vacuum, dust, hair, cat, you. So becareful what you touch when you're done with the thing.
18 pounds is not heavy, 30 ft cord means you can forget which room your vacuum cleaner is plugged in.
All in all? A great vacuum cleaner. But don't expect bang for your buck cause it won't come with a HEPA cartridge. I checked the model number, they certainly didn't send me the wrong box.

Look elsewhere for a vacuum, August 30, 2005
This review is from: Eureka 5841 LiteSpeed Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
worked well for 1st 6 months and then has been eating up belts at least monthly...have been thru at least 5 belts...easy to replace but annoying. There are better values for the same price...the Bissell line gets much better reviews.

yuck-ola, March 8, 2005
This review is from: Eureka 5841 LiteSpeed Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
This vacuum was great for about 5 months. The belt comes off all of the time! The hose clogs easily and I am constantly beating crud out of different parts and the filter! I have had several vacuums and I cannot seem to find a good one that I can afford...so I am going to spend more money next time. Good luck!
