4.0 out of 5 stars Where's the filter cartridge?
Some assembly required. If you buy it shipped it will come in two parts, and god help you if you don't have a drill because I just couldn't do it with a screwdriver.

This product boasts a True HEPA filtration system but it doesn't come with a True HEPA CARTRIDGE filter. It comes with a thin sponge thing that it claims to filter out 100% of allergens and etc...

worked well for 1st 6 months and then has been eating up belts at least monthly...have been thru at least 5 belts...easy to replace but annoying. There are better values for the same price...the Bissell line gets much better reviews.

Some assembly required. If you buy it shipped it will come in two parts, and god help you if you don't have a drill because I just couldn't do it with a screwdriver.

This product boasts a True HEPA filtration system but it doesn't come with a True HEPA CARTRIDGE filter. It comes with a thin sponge thing that it claims to filter out 100% of allergens and etc. That's what the -1 stars is for. If you're going to boast a True HEPA filtration system, come with a friggin' HEPA cartridge. If I wanted a sponge in there I'd get one from the kitchen.

I have something called the Vacuum Cleaner Hair Ball of Doom. Essentially, I have long, thick, black hair that winds onto the brush roll inside the vacuum and then burns up the parts inside when it can no longer spin. I am happy to report that disassembly of the brush roll is easy (three screws, two if you have nimble fingers, leave them off cause they're not necessary to hold things together) and the brush roll itself is not wood, but plastic. It also comes with an extra rubber belt for mechanically spinning the brush roll.

The onboard tools are easily slotted and put away. And yes, there's one for the dusting brush head. The hose adapter for onboard tools is flexible and rubbery, not stiff and like the loch ness monster that you have to constantly battle with for control.

The powerful 12 amp motor does what it is expected and killed the dust and dirt on my medium-pile carpet. Product has a humongous dust cup. The 15 inch wide path means you spend less time covering your room and more time dusting with the onboard tools. Statically charged spin duster means everything will stick to the vacuum, dust, hair, cat, you. So becareful what you touch when you're done with the thing.

18 pounds is not heavy, 30 ft cord means you can forget which room your vacuum cleaner is plugged in.

All in all? A great vacuum cleaner. But don't expect bang for your buck cause it won't come with a HEPA cartridge. I checked the model number, they certainly didn't send me the wrong box.

This vacuum was great for about 5 months. The belt comes off all of the time! The hose clogs easily and I am constantly beating crud out of different parts and the filter! I have had several vacuums and I cannot seem to find a good one that I can afford...so I am going to spend more money next time. Good luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST VACUUM I HAVE EVERY OWNED, January 4, 2012
This review is from: Eureka 5841 LiteSpeed Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
MY MOTHER AND I HAVE THIS VACUUM AND FEEL IT IS THE BEST WE HAVE EVER USED. I HAVE HAD MINE FOR APPROXIMATELY 9 YEARS. ONLY ONE TIME DID IT START SMOKING BUT IT WAS BECAUSE I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE BELT. THE REASON WE LOVE IT IS BECAUSE THE CANISTER IS SO LARGE. NOW ALL OF THE MODELS HAVE ALL OF THESE FILTERS AND IT TAKES UP SO MUCH ROOM THAT YOU END UP WITH A VERY SMALL CANISTER. WE ARE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER ONE AS A BACKUP WHEN OURS FINALLY DIES. BUT WE CAN'T FIND IT IN THE STORES. AND I SEE THAT IT IS OUT OF STOCK HERE ON AMAZON AND MAY NEVER BE AVAILABLE. I WILL CHECK WITH EUREKA TO SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO FOR US.

2.0 out of 5 stars Eurkea 5841 Litespeed Vacuum, January 26, 2011
This review is from: Eureka 5841 LiteSpeed Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
I have good results with this vaccum...when it is working properly. The belt breaks or comes off all the time and where the hose connects to the canister gets plugged up evertime I use it. If I still had my store receipt I would return it but I don't so I will have to make the best of it...for now.

1.0 out of 5 stars nice while it lasted, May 21, 2006

We bought a Eureka Whirlwind Litespeed vacuum just over two years ago upon purchase of our new (to us) home. For the first year and a half, we loved the vacuum. It performed wonderfully under very modest use.

Alas, no longer. It breaks belts on a regular (approx. every 2 weeks) basis. Despite changing height settings, cleaning debris from the rollers, inspecting and scrubbing all moving parts and even trying belt dressing, I now spend more time changing belts than vacuuming. This is highly frustrating, as you might imagine.

In my letter to Eureka, I ask the following questions: Should I bring the machine with me on my trip to the landfill this week, or try some yet-unthought-of trick to keep the vacuum cleaner working? Presuming the former is my best option, do you have a suggestion on a similar replacement vacuum from another manufacturer that might last as long as, say, the Hoover upright I owned previously that lasted 20 years while breaking only a half-dozen belts?

2.0 out of 5 stars Save up and buy a Dyson instead, October 11, 2005
This review is from: Eureka 5841 LiteSpeed Bagless Upright Vacuum (Kitchen)
After two years the gasket which seals the top of the canister leaks resulting in a considerable loss of suction. Replacing the gasket is of little use since the plastic canister itself has deformed under the strain of opening and closing and will no longer make an adequate seal. It's hard to understand why any manufacturer would put critical functionality at risk over such minor stuff. I seriously doubt that Eureka gave this feature adequate testing before moving to production. Does not speak well to the quality of the engineering at Eureka. Still, I've owned worse vacuum cleaners.
