1.0 out of 5 stars Great for fair weather tenting.
We purchased this tent and returned it all in the span of 7 days. First off the fly is way too small for the size of the tent. It serves more as a hat than a rain coat. The slanted/sloped ends of the tent are not sufficiently protected by the fly. Rain hits the slope and rolls down into the zipper area. The way the flap over the zipper is designed it allows water to...

This review is from: Eureka! Tetragon 1610 - Tent (sleeps 9) (Sports)
I recently bought a Greatland Piece of GARBAGE tent from Target and got rained on inside the tent AND two of the poles broke. When a tent truly "leaks" it leaks through the fly, from the top of the tent, and drips on you and your stuff. Needless to say I returned it and got my money back.

So I decided to buy a Eureka! 1610 because of the reputation.

This tent is VERY easy to set up! There's only 4 poles!! Pretty much idiot proof! Directions are very clear. I set it up myself out of the box in less than 20 minutes! The clips are very easy to use! You have to get the poles right though because they're different sizes (main poles are beefier) but the directions are very clear on this. Bottom line, set up with 2 people should take 10 minutes tops!

You could tell the difference in quality from the less expensive Coleman and Greatland brands (although, I've had great luck with Coleman!) and the Eureka. The fly and tent are waterPROOF, not water RESISTANT (there's a difference!) like cheaper tents. This doesn't mean you don't have to seal the seams though!! It says right in the directions of most if not all tents to seal non factory sealed seams!! Many beginners don't realize this and end up with a little water and think there's something wrong with the tent. It's also important to use a ground cloth (tarp) underneath that's just slightly smaller than the tent!

So, I set the tent up in my yard because there were nasty storms moving in so I wanted to put it to the test. Over the next day and a half it stormed and rained non stop! It rained about 7 inches during that time!! Extreme downpours! I looked at my tent and thought "there's no way it's not leaking with this wind and rain." I went out in the rain the next day(got soaked!) and looked inside. Even though I hadn't sealed the seams yet the fly was not leaking AT ALL! There was a little water by each door. And when I say a little, I mean about a half gallon total in the tent.... that's it... for 7 inches of rain in 36 hrs!! Soaked it all up with a towel. I was amazed! I'm quite confident that when I seal the seams it will be even better!!

If you want a tent that stays bone dry in a storm, buy a camper! If you expect you don't have to seal the seams of your tent, think again! As for this tent, you can't beat the quality for such a low price!

5.0 out of 5 stars A really great tent at a great price!, July 12, 2006

This tent is a fabulous deal. I can't believe it comes at such a low price. I purchased this tent and used it this week. It was a breeze to set up. I've had other dome tents that were smaller but had more poles. The tetragon has 2 main poles and 2 secondary poles. Took my husband and I about 10 minutes from the time we had it out of the box. The real test, however, was when it poured rain most of the night on Sunday. We were quite concerned about leakage as we had not sealed any of the seams at home. By morning there were 2 small puddles (4-5") at the bottom of each side door zipper. I think if we seal that area, it would be leak free. The tent is rated to sleep nine, but I think that would be quite crowded. Figure about 7 adults maximum. We had five with room for all of our duffles. As stated before, a great tent at a great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eureka is a quality tent name - but there is some prep work, June 14, 2006
This review is from: Eureka! Tetragon 1610 - Tent (sleeps 9) (Sports)
I have had great sucess with the many Eureka tents I use personally and also with our Boy Scout troop (and these boys abuse the tents). It sounds like some people buy the tent and bring it on their campout. Tents should be assembled prior to camping to get a feel of how to set-up and take-down. Also when it is set up in your yard you can do the most important task - water proof the seams to prevent leaking. Most tents must be seam sealed to prevent leaks, campers know this, first timers may not. I have the Tetragon 12x10 and many others that have weathered many storms.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Choice For A Family Tent, May 6, 2007

This review is from: Eureka! Tetragon 1610 - Tent (sleeps 9) (Sports)
I recently purchased this tent for a three-day camp out at a music festival. As a family of four with two teenagers, we had plenty of space and even some privacy, as tent camping goes. We had some rain and some warm weather, and the tent performed flawlessly. We stayed dry and snug. Even my wife - a non-camper from way back - wants to go again.
The Eureka is only a little more expensive than the bargain brands, but the difference in quality is substantial. This is a solid, well-constructed product. We found it easy to set up and take down, and it weighs less than many of the smaller tents I have owned.
A few minor quibbles: The ability to open just the bottom of each door kept the tent well ventilated, but screening these openings for insects would be nice. (The rest of the opening is screened.) Also, in our rocky soil, metal stakes were a requirement, but we had to buy those separately.
The usual tent-owner advice holds for this one, too: Set up the tent in advance to get familiar with the parts and setup. While you have it set up, apply seam sealer to prevent seeping at the minor seams. With the rain we encountered, this was time well spent. And use a ground cloth to protect the floor from damage.
Over all, we are very pleased, and will consider Eureka again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great for fair weather tenting., January 23, 2007

We purchased this tent and returned it all in the span of 7 days. First off the fly is way too small for the size of the tent. It serves more as a hat than a rain coat. The slanted/sloped ends of the tent are not sufficiently protected by the fly. Rain hits the slope and rolls down into the zipper area. The way the flap over the zipper is designed it allows water to pool up and ever so slowly, but consistently, drip water into the tent where the two zippers meet. This may or may not be improved if the zipper flaps were redesigned and the zippers were able to zip the door closed at the top rather than the bottom corner. I'm not convinced it would be a 100% fix because no matter how you slice it, the fly is still too small. I also used the recommended sealer on all seams and all of the seams leaked at one spot or another. You really have to use the toxic stuff but for many manufacturers it voids the warranty (not sure if that is true in this case or not).

We were extremely dissapointed in this tent. We have been Eureka owners for years but ultimately wound up purchasing a tent from another company. Eureka makes great tents for backpacking but I wouldn't recommend this tent unless you are expecting sun for the duration of your campout!

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but there is better, August 9, 2009
This review is from: Eureka! Tetragon 1610 - Tent (sleeps 9) (Sports)
We bought this tent after reading many reviews. I am an eagle scout and have experienced many tents!
The 1610 has Positives and negatives:
Positive:
1) Easy & quick to assemble, takes 10 mins, due to 4 Poles!
2) Good inner space, height
Negative
1) The fly-sheet poles on the entrance break on first use. I have seen other complaints of this, and unless Eureka changes the design, the tent is completely flawed.
2) The sides of the tent are not covered by the fly-sheet, and again a flawed design. When it rains, it seeps through the seams and zips. Yes, I used 4 cans, yes 4 cans of sealant, and it still rained in!
Overall, easy to use tent, ok in mild weather, but unless Eureka changes the entrance fly-sheet poles, and redesigns the sides, it is a flawed product.

5.0 out of 5 stars The one to buy..., August 18, 2006

This review is from: Eureka! Tetragon 1610 - Tent (sleeps 9) (Sports)
Bought this tent for a weekend trip for 3 adults and one child and had plenty of room for a few more people and their gear. Unfortunitly it rain most of the weekend and I did not have time to seal the seems do to me placing my order late (received the tent night before trip... TY AMAZON!). But anyway, I must say that no water at all had made its way in. My wife, who has never before went camping or setup a tent for that fact set this tent up in about 6 mins, without placing the stakes (she WANTED to do it!). I would recommend this tent to any family looking for a good 3 season tent.

We just used the tent for a camping trip this past weekend. We are very pleased with it. It was easy to set up. We are a family of 4 and had plenty of room for our gear and then some. The only problem we had was one of the plastic stakes broke as we were trying to pull it from the ground.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall a good tent, August 4, 2006
This review is from: Eureka! Tetragon 1610 - Tent (sleeps 9) (Sports)
A lot of space for our family of 6. Loved the light weight and easy assembly. Be sure to apply water sealer on the seams. We tested it in the back yard before our trip and it leaked until we sealed the seams. Our 5 year old dropped one of the stakes inside the tent and put a hole in the floor for us that we also had to seal.

4.0 out of 5 stars solid family tent, September 4, 2007

This is a great light-weight tent -- have always been happy with my Eureka purchases. Fits 6 plus their "stuff" comfortably (more will fit, but we like to have duffle bags and room to stretch). Performed very well in wind and rain (I always seal all the seams on my tents -- no need to risk trusting that manufacturer did an adequate job sealing; so this was no "bathtub" as another reviewer had suggested).

Only thing I could possibly complain about (and this isn't much of a complaint), is that it does take a while to get all the stakes/guy wires in place for this tent. I think I used 18 stakes altogether (which added stability, but also setup time).
