Product Description

The Timberline SQ 4XT tent from Eureka sleeps 4 and is a classic tent updated with the latest in frame technology. The 4XT adds a storage vestibule built right onto the front of the tent and a second door for convenience and improved ventilation. The Timberline series has been famous for years as the Scout's tent of choice, Why? Because of ease of set up, durability and reliability. Well Eureka just made it better with a stronger and easier to set up aluminum frame set. The frame is so tough that Eureka began to compare it to the strength and durability of the giant Sequoia tree and the name stuck (SQ). A stronger, thicker ridge pole and the SQ frame's spreader pole not only increase overall frame strength but adds more usable living space to the interior of the tent. Improved ventilation with the addition of 2 generous roof vents mean long humid tent nights will be much more comfortable than in the past. In addition Eureka has lengthened the side of the fly for even more coverage and added vestibule wings to the rear of the tent to protect the 2nd door from weather. Some of the good old parts remain like the use of RipStop materials on the fly for strength and worry free use. This is a classic tent and it just got better.2 Large end (door) windows are closable and 2 large roof vents (non-closable) for improved ventilation.2 doors with Hi/Lo venting lets warm air flow out from the top while letting cool air in from the bottom.Full coverage fly protects the tent and occupants from inclement weather.Polyester RipStop fly is tough and durable and won't stretch when wet.Front storage vestibule is built right onto the fly for easy set up and excess/wet gear storage.Front vestibule is vented for even better air circulation.4 interior storage pockets help with organization. All clip set up is fast and easy.Post and grommet pole to body connection is fast and simple.Lite-Set footprint optional - allows you to set up the fly with just the poles - leave the body home - lig...

Got this tent just in time for a weekend camping trip.

The good: After practicing once at home, this tent only took about 10 minutes to set up solo. The fly attaches with quick release buckles, and the front corner of the tent and fly are done in a different color than the other 3 to ensure you're doing it the right way, and I skipped the step to put the spreader bar in the fly's pockets. It's nearly impossible, turns a 10 minute setup into half an hour, and I doubt it's necessary. The tent is very well ventillated with the tarp on, and there is ample room under the integral vestibule for muddy boots. The fly also attaches to the sides of the tent with toggles versus snaps, ties, etc. to speed setup. The frame also seems much stronger than the older timberline 2 & 4 frames. Having the hub integrated in the "A" of the frame also speeds setup. Floor size is certainly suitable for 2 guys on cots...if you are against the side of the tent, you are against mesh, with a couple inches between you and the fly, so you aren't going to get wet from condensation. The pre-done seam sealing seems very well done, as well. The vestibule is vented with a covered mesh vent that is held open at the bottom with a plastic wire...a nice improvement over the old timberline "tube vent" on their vestibules.

The bad: You would think that with a $270 +/- tent, Eureka would ditch the stupid plastic stakes and wire pins for some decent aluminum y-stakes like the MSR Groundhogs. Not so. The tent is supplied with crappy stakes you have to replace anyways. I would rather have not had any at all, and a message from Eureka to buy my own, or better yet just pay a little more up front. Come on, guys, this isn't a $30 pup tent from Wal Mart that you get for your 6 year old to use in the back yard.

I've had every tent from a one man gore tex big to full blown canvas outfitters tents and for weekends with the family this is awesome. The first night out this weekend with our new timberline sq4, we had a really nasty thunderstorm and it rained hard, and I mean hard, for several hours. With a proper ground cloth and a nice tight set up we had zero leaks and we stayed nice and dry. Very roomy and great for two adults and two kids. Double doors and the new spreader bar are great features. Easy set up and teardown. The only con is the cheap stakes. Throw them away and get 2 bags of kelty no bendium stakes and a good ground tarp.

Excellent tent . Adding 2 more to the Boy Scout Troop . Better than older Eureka Timberline. Even a Troop of Boy Scouts can set them up.
