4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent idea July 8, 2009
This cheese bag works really well and saves messing about with cheese-cloth and bits of string. I was a bit worried about the size, but it is fine for curds from a gallon of milk. It also cleans up well (they say not to use soap) and just needs a quick soak in boiling water before you use it. I recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars I would buy this again but thought you should know... January 17, 2012

This bag is perfect for extracting whey from yogurt and making yogurt cheese. It's a good size and held 1 quart easily having room for 2 to 3 more. The fabric gauge is thick and allows for the whey to come through easily while keeping the curds from seeping through.

My problems with it are the following. The seams are not sewn well, as mentioned in a previous review. The edges of the fabric is unfinished, left to unravel and on this bag about a 1 inch length of the seam was not sewed. So if you don't mind sewing the seam shut - it's really not a problem just an inconvenience, then it's no big deal. Secondly I had to boil & rinse it 3 times to get the "yellow" to stop showing up in the water which takes me to my third problem. The item is made in China.

Is it really going to cost more to have this product made here in the USA? I would pay an extra few dollars if I knew that 1. the seams were sure and finished, 2. there was no yellow dye/color/product bleed off and 3. it was made in the USA. Having said all that I would buy this again but I will first look to see if I can find it made in the USA.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good cheese bag January 29, 2010

I just made some good cheese with it. It works, it gets the job done. I haven't compared it with other cheese bags but it seems quite sturdy and survived my washing machine just fine - it seems to be a little tougher than a typical article of clothing.

Design-wise it's just right, no frills and nothing fancy, but using a bag instead of loose cloth solves a few problems cheese-wise. You can just pour the curds in and not worry about spillage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful for thickening yogurt. May 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
I make yogurt and like to thicken it without using gelatin. I fasten this bag to my yogurt container with a rubber band and suspend it over an empty bowl, over night in the fridge. I used to use cheese cloth but this bag is much sturdier and can be reused indefinitely, with cleaning between uses of course. I'm sure if left to drain longer it makes yogurt cheese, I'm just not into it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great For Greek-Style Yogurt March 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
I used to use coffee filters in a colander to drain my yogurt. I would usually let it drain for between 12 - 14 hours to get a lot of the whey out of it. However, using this bag, I let it drain for 7 hours before I checked on it, and the yogurt was already nearly the consistency of cream cheese. I can TOTALLY see how this would work for making soft cheese.

It easily fits a gallon of fresh yogurt - no problem at all. And, as another reviewer noted, cleanup is pretty easy. I just turned the bag inside out and scrubbed it with my hands (no soap), rinsed it thoroughly and hung it up to air-dry.

So, if you're into making your own Greek-style yogurt but don't want to sit around and wait for it to drain, get this bag.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nifty little bag! September 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm confident this nifty little bag works well for its intended purpose. I bought it, though, to hang on a hook in the kitchen and use to store a few bulbs of garlic, and it's perfect for that. This is just the plain, small, sturdy cloth bag I wanted. I had looked high and low for such a bag, and I kept finding everything else -- huge bags, teensy bags, plastic bags, bags made of synthetic fabrics, ill-made bags, unwashable bags, bags with drawstrings that were reluctant to draw, and far too many bags printed with "cute" graphics or tiresome mottoes (or both). But this bag is just right -- well-made in a useful size of good cotton cloth. In fact, writing this review made me think of other uses for these bags, and I believe I'll go order more.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unfinished seams January 22, 2011
By DianaC

The inner seams of this bag are unfinished and tend to unravel. I used it inside out to prevent the threads getting into my yogort. It can also be difficult to get the bag open once the string is wet. I actually rarely use this any more and just use a flat piece of muslin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product March 15, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
This is my second purchase of this product. It is large enough to hold almost a full gallon of milk.

I drilled a hold in one of the shelves in my refrig and ran the string from the shelf below through this hole to a superglued plastic hook to allow me to hang the yogurt above a large plastic container for it to drain chilled. Works great.

Only complaint is from my wife when she saw the hole I drilled.
