5.0 out of 5 stars Euro Cuisine 2 Qt Yogurt Maker December 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
This works beautifully! Thanks to the large 2-quart capacity, now I can make enough yogurt to last a week and avoid using all of those store-bought plastic yogurt containers. Note: The recipe provided by Euro-Cuisine is not as good as the one from Diet for a Small Planet, which--doubled for the 2qt capacity--makes a delicious yogurt with a much thicker consistency.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use December 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
The product description says, "Timer on the side of the unit marks time as to when yogurt will be finished cooking." That can be misleading; there is no automatic timer that makes a signal or shuts off when the desired cook time has been reached. Besides that, the machine is easy to use and makes really good yogurt.

There's not a whole lot to this device. Its primary function is to maintain a constant temperature for an extended period of time, which is not such a tremendous feat of engineering that it requires the price tag attached to this thing, but it does it effectively which is enough to keep me satisfied.

Pros:
1) It performs its primary function well.
2) Large capacity.
3) Incubation vessel functions well as storage.
4) Included extras (thermometer and cheesecloth bag) provide pretty much everything you need to make great yogurt just the way you like it

Cons:
1) Cheap plastic incubator/storage. Would have preferred glass, even if it added $10 to the price.
2) "Timer" isn't a timer, it's just a reminder: If you point it to 8, that means you're supposed to unplug the machine at 8 O'Clock, not that the incubation stops after 8 hours. Only marginally useful, and was added to make it seem like there was another feature without having to pay to produce it.
3) Cheesecloth bag is difficult to work with. Would have preferred regular cheesecloth that would open flat to facilitate removing the strained yogurt.

All in all, there's probably ten bucks in materials, labor and design in this thing, if that. That said, all of the value in this thing is tied up in two features: its reliability and it's capacity. I hadn't found a reliable way to incubate prior to this and I'd probably have spent half this price on milk trying to find something that would work without fuss year round. It's nice to know that I'm using something specifically designed to maintain yogurt incubating temps. The thermometer is better suited to this use than the cheap candy thermometer I was using as well. And I much prefer a single large capacity container rather than several individual cups, and there's just not that many large capacity incubators out there.

My final thought is this: this is the best yogurt I've ever made, even better than the commercial yogurt I used as starter culture (my previous favorite). I won't argue with results. I would have rather paid less for them, or gotten a glass incubator rather than plastic, but as long as this thing lasts for a year I'll have come out ahead.

I need to use this product more often. I made yogurt for my husband and he liked it. I will be using it more in the future. Still need to see if it will work using goat milk.
