Euro-pro Model EP278 Convection Toaster Oven blues,
By
This review is from: Euro-Pro EP278 Convection Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
I purchased this Euro-pro convection toaster oven July 2002 hoping it would offer superior cooking quality. Unfortunately I was badly disappointed. In addition there is no customer service - website down (six months), telephone always busy.My problems with this unit now include noisy, defective fan, oven door does not close properly leaking warm air and no customer service. In addition to this the product does a very poor job of cooking food as the heat is not distributed evenly (possibly due to defective fan) and the cooking time is not appreciably less than a regular oven. My experience with Euro-pro is "great specs on paper, poor performance of products". I am very disappointed with Euro-pro as a company and this product in particular. I can not afford the shipping to send the product back to them in New York state. If I could I would tell them to keep it.... Thank you! Jim Pepoon (Jpepoon@aol.com)

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I bought the Euro-Pro convection toaster oven because it was available and a lot less expensive than the competitors. I have never owned a convection oven before, and I find this one to be just a little faster for overall cooking than prior toaster-ovens. I like it for its ease of use, multiple cooking surfaces and ease of cleaning. The 15 minute limit for timed cooking is too low for many items but I work around that. Toast takes too long, but I have a regular toaster. I was hoping the "convection" part of the oven would mean faster cooking times, but I see little difference between this oven and my conventional gas stove. Well, you get what you pay for, and what I got met my expectations.

Junk!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Euro-Pro EP278 Convection Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
Customer service is non-existent, HSN is unhelpful, as is the warranty company that HSN used for the extended warranty. My wife never uses it and I've used it about 5 times when suddenly the knob cracked and fell off. Contacting several customer service people from HSN, Europro (who never answers their calls), and the warranty company who will fight you for hours until you just say screw it were useless. No websites to help, no replacement parts available. HSN should be ashamed to sell junk like this. Buy something else!

We got one of these last Sunday (Oct. 10, 04). Returned it on the 12th.
Here is what we experienced. Following directions we unpacked and turned the unit on high to "burn it off". This resulted in copious quantities of smoke and unpleasant smells (like a machine shop). Thank heavens our range has a large exterior vented hood. We noticed too that the fan became increasingly noisy to the point of being annoying. Additionally the door began to bind and not close properly. When cooled the door was better but not right. This became progressively worse. It did make decent toast but between the noise and the door I was concerned. We didn't bother to try much else in it other than some toaster strudel (which again cooked very well but noisily). I did like the fact that it's heavy and the non skid feet are nice. Also the extra accessories (cookie sheets, pizza stone, etc.) were nice touches. I would have preferred no accessories and more quality in exchange. A glaring safety fault was also discovered. When you open the door it does NOT shut off. I find this oversight unforgivable. Overall it's a nicely sized and outfitted product that falls WAY short of expectation. But than it's cheap and made in China so I guess I should not have expected different. A point of interest. Why is it SO hard to find a reasonable selection of reasonable quality products of this type anymore?! This site lists like 100 or so products of this type but just try and find any kind of reasonable selection at ANY store. End of rant.

It's great!,

I bought the Euro-Pro convection oven almost a year ago from Best Buy because the oven in the house that I bought was broken. We still have not gotten a new oven(space can only fit a 20" range, so we're waiting until we re-do the kitchen) But the Europro toaster oven has worked GREAT! We use it almost every night, and most mornings, we've cooked so many diffrent foods in it from meatloafs, to small hams, to chickens, to salmon. As well as the usual french fries, toast, english muffens etc. Everything takes about as long as the directions say, sometimes sometimes it takes less time, but that's not the norm. However, it cooks everything very evenly.
I think just the fact that it has lasted almost a year under heavy use, and basically been our oven for that time really says a lot about the quality of the product. the big test will be thanksgiving. We're frying our turkey, but everything elce will be cooked in the toaster oven!

Defective Door,

I bought this disappointment 3 months ago, and use it fairly regularly. While using it to melt cheese on a sandwich today (at a low heat setting) the door shattered and glass flew all over my kitchen. Before this incident, it did a fairly good job at heating food, but was terrible for toasting. Bread gets dried out and comes out like a crouton. I'll be returning it when I get off of work this afternoon.

Toaster of the Future,
This review is from: Euro-Pro EP278 Convection Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
In other words, your toast/grilled food will be done sometime in the distant future. Takes forever to heat, and does not attain the kinds of radiant temps that even a cheapie Black & Decker does. I don't have any sense that the convection feature does anything at all except make noise. Let's put it this way: my gas oven heats more quickly and cooks faster than this thing, and I've basically stopped using the Euro Pro, will put it out on the street as soon as I find a replacement.

I love this oven. It makes great evenly toasted toast. I bake pies in it and they come out really nice in half the time without heating up the kitchen. Has a pizza board included and if you like the crust softer its excellent! It will also keep your food warm with the keep warm feature which I really like. Has simple easy to understand directions. Comes with 2 cookie sheets and the cookies come out great too. I highly recommend this oven.

The best toaster-oven I've ever owned,
By
This review is from: Euro-Pro EP278 Convection Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
I purchased this toaster-oven about 4 years ago for its convection capabilities and was not disappointed. When it recently died I was sure to replace it with exactly the same stainless steel model. Besides its sound functionality, nothing else would look as good in our kitchen! I had upgraded my regular oven to stainless steel with convection based on my satisfaction with this miniature version. It toasts fast and evenly, especially after it has been warmed up a couple of minutes (unlike the directions say). This was the opposite of my experience with my irritating pop-up toaster that worked fine only for the first 2 slices. Although this toaster-oven can hold up to 18 slices of bread at once on its 2 racks, I recommend using just 1 rack in the very center. I also use it for baking, broiling, and reheating foods like pizza and French fries that a microwave would make soggy. My only criticisms of this toaster (except that it should last more then 4 years) are that the trays do not always slide in and out easily and the 15-minute timer is unlabeled. Be sure to get a new box labeled EP278 from a reputable seller. Otherwise you may get a smaller, less powerful Euro-Pro oven without the power, size, pizza tray and other extras of this one, the best I've ever owned.

Just terrible,
By
This review is from: Euro-Pro EP278 Convection Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
I've had this toaster oven for about a year and have been very disappointed...uneven heat, toast that takes 8-10 minutes, major heat loss and a dial-timer that, about 90% of the time, stops ticking and just keeps running till someone notices and winds it down to the the off position. Very unreliable. This is my first (and last) EuroPro product!
