Seems Like a Lot of Work to Clean!, November 2, 2003
This review is from: Euro-Pro Shark EP79 Bagless HEPA Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
Since I have mostly tile floors, I wanted a good canister vac that would be easier to "pull" around than my expensive upright. I finally decided on the Shark Euro-Pro Bagless vacuum. This vac claimed to have the most suction power and the filter was "tap" to clean. After receiving the vac and reading the manual, I found that there are actually three filters and all have to be replaced every so many months. There was no information on where to buy the filters. The vac does seem to have the power, but the manual states that the power will deminish if the filters are not cleaned/replaced properly. The clean-up of the filters is a time consuming job and must be done after each use. The vac comes with two floor tools (one powered). I use the power tool for all cleaning (tile and carpet). The way the floor tools swivel at the end of the wand makes getting into small places easy.

A great little vac!, November 8, 2002
This review is from: Euro-Pro Shark EP79 Bagless HEPA Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
I selected this vacuum not even seeing a picture on the website, but it had the features I wanted and the price was right. When I received it, I was surprised at how light the box was. It's a nice, compact canister that moves around easily due to it's light weight and small size. You can even use the included strap to carry it on your shoulder. It does an excellent job on my hardwood floors and berber carpets! I love that it's bagless. The instructions say to tap the filter on the side of the trash can to get all the dust out, but i recommend doing this outside or all the dust will be airborn in the house. The HEPA filter is great, especially since I think my old vac blew as much dust into the air as it was taking in! Didn't sneeze once, which would've been typical before!

Outstanding vacuum for small and medium jobs!, April 20, 2003
This review is from: Euro-Pro Shark EP79 Bagless HEPA Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
I bought this vacuum to replace a Hoover upright vacuum. I live in a one bedroom apartment with all rooms except kitchen and bathroom carpeted -- plus I have pets who often track litter onto the carpet and shed hair like they have a neverending supply (sometimes I think they do). It's also small and powerful enough to make it a world class vacuum for car interior detailers. This is an oustanding vacuum for people like me.
Pros: INCREDIBLY lightweight and compact; Large rollers make it easy to drag along or I can easily carry the canister around with me with no effort, plus they include a shoulder strap to make it even easier (though I never needed to use it). Storage is equally painless as the unit is very compact (roughly 15"x10"x10") and has some helpful storage features (the cord -- about 20' long -- retracts into the canister, and the metal vacuum attachment telescopes to about half its size). The filtration system is excellent; there is a noticable improvement in the air quality when I've finished vacuuming (versus my Hoover upright). It also picks up animal hair like nothing I've ever seen before short of my mother's ~$1500 "Rainbow" water vacuum cleaner. Bagless system lets you easily extract coins or jewelry or other valuables that may be accidentally sucked up. The included bare floor attachment is quite handy; vacuuming my kitchen seemed a little odd at first, but it works quite nicely and picks up stuff that even my "Swiffer" didn't find. And did I mention that it's pretty quiet, too?
Cons: I would have REALLY liked to see an electric power broom on this. As it is, the carpet sweeper is powered by the pull of the vacuum. It's not so bad on most carpets (berber or cut pile) but when the filter gets clogged the suction power drops, and therefore so does the sweeper power. The two buttons at the top (one for power, one for cable retraction) are poorly marked; I made a couple of labels and stuck them on for better identification. The included accessories (upholstory brush and crevice cleaner) and helpful and there's even a fixture on the vacuum to store them when not in use, but they constantly fall off. (I don't even store them on the vacuum any more.) I also would have liked a small brushless vacuum head for cleaning small carpeted areas (like my ferrets' cage). Replacement filters are rather hard to find too; I wound up having to order extras from the manufacturer.
Euro also makes an upright vacuum that has an electric power broom and a stronger motor (1800 watts versus 1300 watts), but it's a bit larger and won't allow me to vacuum under my futon like this one does. So would I buy it again? Absolutely, especially if I could get replacement filters at the same time!
