Amazing vaccum cleaner. This is the vacuum i got when i first got my house and it cleans really well. Amazing on carpet and hardwood floors. The steam works well great too and am always amazed at how much dirt / dust is picked up from steaming. I haven't seen any streaking issues mentioned from other reviewers. I just use filtered water to steam and just wash the pads in the sink and let them hang dry.

First, for the "LOVE: It goes together out of the box like a charm. Vacuuming rugs is wonderful and glides easily on all rug surfaces. Changing the cleaning heads is very simple and quick. Steam cleaning my ceramic tile is a breeze. and it did a fine, clean and pretty job.

I opened the box and assembled it in no time then I set aside the steam head and vacuumed my bedrooms and my huge great room area rug which has low nap with very high nap star-bursts in it. The vacuum did a lovely job on all of the carpeting and area rugs. I have tons of ceramic tile from the entry hallways, through the kitchen, great room, laundry room and two large bathrooms. I vacuumed all of the ceramic tile as I usually do prior to mopping or using the separate stand up model steam cleaner I had purchased a little over a year ago. For me, it was always a two separate floor cleaner machine job and a pain to finish vacuuming and wind up the cord and then go get the steam cleaner. Now, with my new Shark Vac or Steam it was so simple to change the head and try out the steam cleaning portion. It was heaven for me to have it all in one and very simple to exchange the cleaning heads. I was ecstatic over how everything worked and so convenient and handy. It manipulates easily in all directions.

At that point, I removed my purple Shark from it's storage spot and also my former steam cleaning tool from its storage spot and set them both into the garage. I was sure my new Shark Vac n Steam was here to stay and I was a happy camper and glad I had made the purchase. I have always like vacuuming and floor cleaning but it just became much more fun also quicker and simpler. And, both vacuuming and steaming turned out very nice as far as I was concerned.

Good vac but I was worried about the streaking that was mentioned by the other reviewers. I found out that the streaking was due to the soap film left from my previous mop. After mopping twice with the Shark, the floor never streaked again.

I love having the vacuum and steamer in one machine. I've had this device for about 7 months. At first I loved it. Now the romance is over. It gets on my nerves. Maybe it's the 7-month itch? I purchased this one to use downstairs on hard floors and berber carpet. I also have a Dyson. I know a lot of people want to know how it compares.

PROS
1. Suction is pretty good. I didn't notice much difference with the suction between this one and my Dyson (WHEN & ONLY WHEN THE FILTER IS CLEAN).

2. Nice having one machine with interchangeable heads. Takes up less space.

3. Is very light! Can carry with one hand.

4. The width of the vacuum head is the same as the width of a step, so I can vacuum my steps with it. It's difficult but is a lot easier than using the wand.

5. The steamer is pretty nice. I've been able to get up a lot of stuff on the floors and my floor looks amazing. It really gets up the grime and it's a lot easier than scrubbing the floor on your hands and knees. We've only used distilled water to make sure it does not get calcium build up in it.

CONS
Short Cord
The extension cord is way too short!!! I cannot vacuum a whole room without having to find a new plug. With the Dyson I can vacuum the whole downstairs, but not with this. It's pretty frustrating.

Filter
At first it took awhile before the filter needed to be cleaned. Now I feel like I have to wash it more often. Just so you all know, it says in the instruction manual that you have to wash it once a month so it requires some maintenance. The suction is awesome when you first use it after washing it but the suction quickly goes away within a few uses.

The Vac-Or-Steam vacuums well, very maneuverable and picks up on both hard floors and carpets. The push button to empty the canister is great - everything just falls out (I have two dogs so sometimes I have to give the dog hair a little nudge to get it out). The pads for the steamer, however, suck! For some unknown reason they have two velcro-like strips that run down the sides so that when you're steaming, they leave visible streak marks on the floor. When I slowly drag the unit down a section of flooring, you can clearly see where those two strips are. I've only used the steamer once and my hardwood floor looks 100% WORSE then before - very streaky. I called Shark to see if they have replacement pads without those strips and they said No. I've read reviews where the streaky will go away after a couple of cleaning (that it's a result of the residue from previous cleaners), so I'll give it another try. At this point I would not recommend this unit because of the pads.

UPDATE: I've used this on my hardwood floors 3 times, hoping that the streaking and clouding would go away, but it hasn't - it looks terrible. I've got my work cut out trying to get a shine back to my floors. The vacuum works great (although the hose is a joke) and the steamer works great on tile so I'll keep the unit, but go back to Orange-Glo Hardwood cleaner for my wood floors.
