There are better products out there.,

I'm a teacher and I don't have a lot of time to spend cleaning the house. A friend told me about a wonderful new machine to make my household tasks easier...a vapor steam cleaner. Unfortunately, I thought the Shark Portable was what she was referring to. As it turns out, this thing is a major disappointment. I told my friend about my frustration and she told me to go to [another web site] and take a look. I did and I bought what they call a Vapor 2000. What a product! While the Shark Portable leaks water all over the place, and actually makes cleaning more work, I cleaned and sanitized my kitchen and bathrooms in no time flat with my 2000 and a little tap water. What a gift for a "cleaning fanatic" like me who doesn't have the time to clean...and who hates using chemicals. I'd pass on the Shark if I were you. There are better products out there.

Hot Stuff,

Product works almost perfectly. The trouble with it is that the bristels are plastic and thus when heated kinda become deformed. I called the company for extra parts, it gives you a different number that's always busy. Tried for 3 days and gave up. If you need it for once and a while use, it's fantastic, but if you used it more frequently as I. Just know getting to them for parts is not possible

Get something more powerful,
By Gregg (St. Paul) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Euro-Pro SC505 Shark Portable Pro Steam Cleaner (Kitchen)
I own a neighborhood supermarket. Nothing really big. Before preparing foods, I make my people wash and sanitize thoroughly all food prep surfaces. We had been using hot soapy water and chlorine bleach. This kills all the germs as long as you let the bleach stand and don't towel dry. Then I heard about these steamers at a convention and decided to give the Shark a try after reading about it here at Amazon. This board is full of it. This toy didn't last one week. (...) For what it's worth, the Shark probably cleans some things okay. If it lasts long enough. But I wouldn't rely on it when cleaning countertops and cutting boards touched by raw meat. Get something more powerful like a vapor cleaner if that's what you're looking to do.

Frail and more suited to occasional cleaning.,

I've read the reviews on the Shark. While it's not in the same class as the Vapor 2000, I think the Shark is getting a bit of a bad rap. Oh sure, it's a toy when compared to the might of the 2000. But the Shark is less expensive. My sister has a Shark and it does okay on small jobs, like cleaning around sink faucets. I don't believe the Shark was designed for heavier cleaning than that. And I don't think it will hold up to every-day use. So if durability and muscle are what you're looking for, go for the 2000. But you'll have to spend more than 100 bucks. I was willing to do that because I wanted power and a steamer that will last. But for those who don't have extra cash sitting around, the Shark is worth a look. Just don't be surprised if you have to send it back for repairs every now and then. The Shark is a frail cleaning machine more suited to occasional cleaning than every-day cleaning.

Put your money elsewhere.,

I'll make this simple. I bought the Shark and had all kinds of problems getting it to clean anything. [M]y hubby...got me a stainless steel vapor cleaner for Christmas. Oh sure, it cost more than the Shark. But it's built like a tank, doesn't leak, and it cleans like the dickens. The Shark should be recalled. Put your money elsewhere.

This is the second shark cleaner I have used. After using it for a day, steam started coming out of everywhere. I almost burned my hand with this product. This should be recalled by Shark. (...)

I would not buy it.,
By A Customer

If I could give it negative star I would have rated it negative 5. It worked once (15-20 min. usage). Second time steam leaked from everywhere (top screw cap, hose joint to the tank and handle). It burned my hand. If I still had the box I would have send it back and ask for my money. Very poorly designed, low quality, not reliable and not safe.

Law Suit Waiting to Happen,
By A Customer
This review is from: Euro-Pro SC505 Shark Portable Pro Steam Cleaner (Kitchen)
I received this product as a Birthday gift and it worked for maybe 10 min., before steam and hot water came out of every seam in the handle. I made sure that I follow all the companies directions. I tried repeatedly to call the company to see if this was normal but it was busy everytime I called. Someone can get seriously burned from this product. I don't recommend this product to anyone and will be returning mine.

Poor Quality, Major Design Problem?,

This review is from: Euro-Pro SC505 Shark Portable Pro Steam Cleaner (Kitchen)
After trying out two Shark cleaners, I gave up. Both machine had the same defect: the locking steam button does not work.In order to get full steam preassure, I needed to continously press the steam release button on the base unit--really hard. This made it nearly impossible to use. Too bad this product is so poorly made.

AVOID THIS PRODUCT!!!!,

I bought this product as a gift for a friend this Christmas (2003). Thank goodness Target has a liberal return policy. My friend and I were both impressed by the infomercials on TV. This product simply DOES NOT WORK and is a huge waste of money. PLEASE think twice before purchasing this product. The infomercial portrays this product as being capable of cleaning even the most stubborn household messes. We spent more than 2 hours using this product in our home to find that it wouldn't accomplish even the easiest of tasks. Before buying this product I read the reviews on this site and was shocked by the wide variety of comments. Most comments seemed to be negative, but I wanted to give it a shot anyway. To all of you that have rated this product a 1 (lowest rating) - I sincerely wish I would have taken your advice. Once again it goes to show you that if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Please save your money, or at least make sure you are able to return the product for a full refund - you WILL be returning this product.
