4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely does the job
Despite the other reviews on this page, I got this steamer as an early wedding gift and I love it. I even used it to steam my dress (and I saved a bundle).

It takes about 2 minutes to produce steam and takes only seconds to get every wrinkle out. As for the other reviews that complain that it is "too hot"...what do you expect steam to be? Cold...

1.0 out of 5 stars Very bad experience with this produce
This steamer was rickety when assembled. It got too hot to touch -- even on the handle. Finally, after only about five or six uses, it refused to turn on. Trying to contact the company is a nightmare: their 800 number is always busy, and they have no e-mail capability. I'd advise going with another brand.

Don't buy this item. The first time I tried to use it ,it did't work . The steamer went on for about 20 seconds. Repeated attempts had the same results. Have tried to reach the company for over a month many times a day. All I get is busy signals.
Prior to this I bought Euro Pro's hand steamer , It also did'nt work. I would never buy another one of this company's products.

Heats up fast, but be prepared to don your gas mask or only use outside as the pungent odor emitted from the flexible hose is enough to send you gasping for fresh air within the first 60 seconds of use.

Brand new out of the box, this steamer doesn't work and never has produced any steam.

The company does not respond to repeated requests to honor the warranty or to repair the item. The item was thrown out with the trash.

What A JOKE!!! This whas a disappointing experience. The Garment Steamer never really worked. I wasted a valuable time in this deal. I bought one at target first missing parts then I went back returned it and came back home to use it and again never worked. What a WASTE of my time! The second GARMENT STEAMER ONE and OFF button kept turning off about one minute never producing any steam. I tried to contact customer service to find out if I was using it right and customer sevice is no HELP AT ALL! MY ADVISE IS: PLEASE DON'T EVEN WASTE YOUR TIME WITH IT. Sincerely,&#60;br /&#62;<br /> Jackeline De Ranieri

For $59.99 this is an excellent value, if you want something that isn't "rickety" as other reviews have stated, you can pay up to $300 for a steamer and I'm sure it would meet your standards. I keep the steamer set up and have never had that problem.

I have had the steamer for 5 months now and have never had a problem. As for others who state they have had problems...the steamer does need to be filled with water.

I've had this steamer for about 6 months and was pleased with it (in spite of its hose which is too short to reach the top of my drapes) until a few days ago when it suddenly began leaking hot water all over the floor. Fortunately, I purchased it from a store with a great return policy. It is going back to the store today.

4.0 out of 5 stars over a year with no major issues, September 13, 2009
This review is from: Euro-Pro SC620S Garment Steamer (Kitchen)
I have had this steamer for over a year now. I am a notorious procrastinator and have only become more so since I bought this steamer. I never iron or otherwise press/steam my clothes after laundering them anymore. I just hang/fold them with wrinkles in place. Now I just steam everything before I put it on. I use this steamer at least twice a day; once in the morning for work clothes and again in the evening for whatever I choose to wear after work.

It heats up in a couple of minutes and takes less than 2 minutes to steam a shirt and pants. Loose knit items like polo shirts can be done in mere seconds even if badly wrinkled.

I still don't give it a 5 star rating because, as others have pointed out, it's construction is a little rickety. But it does do the job and has worked without fail for me for some time now. I have definitely gotten my $60 worth out of it and it's still kicking.

Some things to note:
It's a steamer. Steam can't be produced at less than 212 degrees so yes, it gets hot. But the handle doe not get uncomfortable. The hose shield just below where the handle connects to the hose does get too hot to hold but it's not meant to be used as a handle so don't hold it there. The hose itself is not entirely shielded (at this pricepoint you wont find one that is) and it does get very hot. However, I often use the unit wearing shorts (or less) and even if the hose does brush against bare skin it will not burn you, but you will notice it and you will pull away.

The steam will stop blowing every few minutes and take about 15-30 seconds to start again. This is because condensation builds up inside the hose and if the hose is not stretched out then the condensation will accumulate in the dip/drooped section of the hose and when you do stretch it out, that condensation drains back into the heating compartment and cools it down below boiling for a few seconds. I've found that if I shake/tap the hose now and then and stretch it out then the time without steam is minimized.

The on/off switch is a bit temperamental at times. It's a press it once to turn it on, again to turn it off type switch that's meant to be pressed with your foot/toe. Sometimes it's too easy to double click it and effectively do nothing.

If you have hard water in your area (I do) then you will need to clean the tank and unit often. Here in the Dallas Tx area we have very hard water and after running one tank through it the water will discolor to a light tan and there will be a relatively large buildup of what looks like sand in the unit (all the minerals in the water left behind after evaporation). I rinse the tank every time it runs out before refilling it and I turn the whole unit on it's side on the counter next to the sink and, using the sink sprayer, spray out the sediment.

I have, accidentally, let it run dry several times. The instructions warn you never to do this despite it's auto shutoff feature. Every time I've let it run dry, the auto shutoff worked as it was supposed to.

As cheaply made as it appears to be in some areas, no parts have failed. I was worried at first that the collapsible pole would not support the weight of heavier clothes but I can easily leave 2 or 3 shirts and a pair of pants hanging on it without problems. Too much weight will tip over the unit before damaging the pole. I do wish the hook at the top were secured where it could not swivel but that's not a big deal.

Someone commented that it has no carry handle which makes it hard to transport around the house. This may be true if you have to navigate stairs with it but otherwise it's on wheels and rolls just fine dragging it by the pole.

My only other complaint is that the brush is very difficult to remove for cleaning. Over time you will have a TON of lint, pet hair (if applicable), thread, etc in the brush and want to clean it. It is a snap on design but the plastic is so rigid that it takes quite a bit of force to remove it. Cleaning the brush is easy with a fine tooth comb however.

For those who never got theirs to turn on, my suspicion is that the water never reached the heating element, causing it to trigger the dry auto shutoff. If you fill the tank 100% leaving no air inside then it does not let any water out into the unit. Or maybe you got a lemon, who knows.

All in all, I really like mine. Like everyone out there I want flawless perfection as well and would love to have a unit with a heat shielded hose, rigid pole, nonstop-high pressure steam, carry handle, and reliability that never fades. And such units do exist, but not within my budget.

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy steamer!, April 20, 2009
This review is from: Euro-Pro SC620S Garment Steamer (Kitchen)
I went to Target this weekend and this was the last steamer of it's kind on the shelf. I saw what I thought was it's price displayed on the shelf at $24. I had been debating two other steamers before seeing this price. I decided to go with it since it was so cheap and for the fact that I am not using it for heavy duty use. When I got up to the cashier, the box wouldn't ring up even after several attempts. I decided to walk back with one of the employees and show them where i got it only to discover that the price that I thought was $24 was for a completely different item. A sewing case. Go figure. So the team lead looked up the item and realized that the item was actually discontinued and wasn't supposed to be on the floor. They ended up up ringing up the item at $15 plus an additional 10% off! So for that reason, I'll give this item 4 stars. Yes, it does have its flaws as does everything. The handle does get a bit warm, but not scorching. I've used other steamers and those handles all got a bit warm as well. But, it does heat up incredibly fast and does an excellent job. I used it already to steam some drapes and clothing. I LOVE IT and couldn't be happier with the price! :D

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent steamer., November 18, 2008
This review is from: Euro-Pro SC620S Garment Steamer (Kitchen)
I am honestly surprised by the very negative reviews here. I have used hand steamers and commercial steamers when working in retail stores, and am mostly happy with this home steamer. It is effective on most types of clothing, even my husband's military uniforms, and is simple to use. The negatives would be that it is awkward to move around and does get somewhat hot on the exterior. Neither of these is a big enough hassle to cause me to go back to the iron, though!!
