Shark V1730 Sweeper,

This review is from: Euro-Pro Shark V1730 Cordless Professional 13-Inch 3-Speed Sweeper with Bonus Hand-Held Cordless Sweeper (Kitchen)
I have an older Shark sweeper which I use almost daily as it is so handy. The new Shark is much better with 3 speeds , lights, telescoping handle and you get it into absolutely any place including under low sofas. If you have a cat or dog the Shark is a must. It easlily picks up cat litter off of floors and digs cat hairs out of carpet in tight places cats like to hide. I have an Oreck and a Dyson which I use for deep cleaning but they are two cumbersome to set up to use on a moments notice. The Shark is the best sweeper I have ever used and I am not so sure I would give it up for the Oreck or Dyson. Really easy to empty. Parts such as a battery pack are easily availabe but I have never had to repalce anything. I am now using my old Shark in the garage on a concrete floor. It picks up anything. You cannot go wrong with the Shark. As an added bonus they now give you a small handheld shark you can use in your car or on the sofat, chairs, etc. It weighes about a lb and is rechargable just like the big Shark. Best $57 I ever spent on a cleaning device.

While not perfect, the Ultra shark is a unique little machine that can really make your floor cleaning chores a lot easier. I originally purchased a shark about 18 months ago and it was the "old" model without all the bells and whistles. It has no headlite, variable speeds, or any of the other fancy stuff the new ones have. The small side cleaning brush quit after about a week; the gears are plastic and just basically stripped out. Not a big deal for me anyway. The next thing that went was the handle. The end part that you grip when you are cleaning. Snapped off after about three weeks. Not very sturdy. I have since replaced it with another one from the company. Other than that, it has worked perfectly for a year and a half and has been used constantly. It still has the ORIGINAL battery, brush, and belt. After about 6 months or so it wouldn't hold a charge and finally wouldn't charge at all. I took the battery out and noticed a ton of dust in the battery compartment. It seems when you are cleaning dust can work its way in there. So, I cleaned the battery off and wiped the battery compartment out. I then wiped the battery contacts and the contacts on the Shark off with a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean them. Finally I gently bent the contacts out a bit to make sure they would make good contact. Surprise ! It started charging again and has been fine ever since. I would recommend you take the battery out once and month and clean it this way and you will have no charging problems. I also gently bent the catch outwards that holds the battery in to the machine. If you don't once you take the battery out it won't stay in. Just be VERY gentle as the catch is just plastic. If you get one of these you will be AMAZED at how much stuff it picks up. I only do deep cleaning with the heavy old vacume once or twice a month now. The Shark is not terribly sturdy so if you think you can slam it around like you may do with a vacume cleaner you are going to break it. If you are gentle with it and don't mind the occasional battery cleaning you will be very happy with it because it really does work very well. I have the newest model with the light and all that stuff and it has been working fine since I got it but again; I don't slam it around like a vacume. I gave the old one to my neighbor and its still going strong. You will have to clean the brush off occasionally also. You can buy replacement parts off of the shark website. They are slow to ship however. Replacement batteries are not $19.99 but $9.99 off the web. Also, I always run the battery completely down a couple times a month before I charge it. If it doesn't run down completely by the time you are done cleaning, just leave it on and set it upside down while turned on until the battery goes dead. I did this twice a month with the old one and it seems to charge up better this way. May be why my battery in the old one has lasted a year and a half too. You can get these at SEARS and also get an extended warranty on it for $9.00. Amazon has the best price however. All in all a great little machine with a few quirks.

A piece of junk,
This review is from: Euro-Pro Shark V1730 Cordless Professional 13-Inch 3-Speed Sweeper with Bonus Hand-Held Cordless Sweeper (Kitchen)
This is the first time I've ever taken the time to write a review on a product I purchased. But I feel so strongly about the inferiority of this product that I felt it was necessary to help others avoid wasting their hard-earned money. When I first received it, it worked okay. Not long after, it just crapped out and customer service is horrible (no response to emails). Please, please - save your money. (I would have given it '0' stars but the lowest rating it allows here is 1.)

Extremely Disappointing,

I'm extremely disappointed. After the initial charging malfunction and continuous flashing headlights fiasco that lasted 72 hours with no battery charge was over, for a short while, the Shark Pro V1730 seemed to be what I was looking for, a quick, light weight solution to cleaning a tile kitchen floor after a toddler and pre-schooler's mealtime. Yet, I clearly remember the advertisement saying it would hold a charge for 90 minutes of runtime; it never did. About 30 minutes runtime has been my best experience and that dwindled down to 15, then 10, then 5 and ultimately much less. I'm not sure the baseboard sweeper ever worked and it certainly didn't work by the third day. The headlights lasted less than a week, burning out one-by-one. And the battery is officially and terminally dead after only six months and will require a $19.99 plus shipping and handling replacement ($20+ every six months is not reasonable, in my opinion.) Please note: A zero star rating is not an option. One star is the lowest rating possible.
As a previous owner and advocate of the Eureka Cordless Boss-Lite, I will cut my losses on the Shark Pro V1730 and get back to my Cordless Boss-Lite, it is a wonderful investment at a retail price of about $69. (Serendipitously, I checked on-line today and we can get a brand-new one for only $29.99, save $40 @57% off retail.) My Eureka Cordless Boss-Lite has survived two indoor-outdoor long-haired animals, a collie and a cat for well over five years with no replaced parts and the original battery; and, it cleans as well as many full size vaccums. The free hand held Shark is fun for the kids and works as well as the full size Pro ever did, a $10 value in my opinion. Its battery is still working and holds a charge for as long as we run it.

I have owned this approx. 4 weeks and it has already quit working. when it worked, it did pick up more things than a regular electric broom, for example, but if you use the lowest speed (for bare floors), and you hit even a smooth rug, it jams and stops and you have to restart. also, when it was fully charged, the charge only seemed to last about 10 minutes, which is ridiculous. very unhappy with this product, and now it has quit running.
whoa! all of a sudden it has started working again, but this is not an ideal situation. it runs when it wants to? am still disappointed. now a month later, have given up. the charge lasts about 8 minutes on high and the thing jams so much at the slighest piece of string, that it is a pain to use. have relegated it to the basement rummage room and bought a hoover. also, tech support from shark was worthless as well. no responses at all.

Insanely Bad,
This review is from: Euro-Pro Shark V1730 Cordless Professional 13-Inch 3-Speed Sweeper with Bonus Hand-Held Cordless Sweeper (Kitchen)
I bought this on the recommendation of a friend who had he heard it was good. little did i know he meant from an infomercial. I live in a small apartment, and figured a sweeper/vac would be good for doing the small amount of carpet and the kitchen linoleum. I was wrong. The thing broke down within the first week, and I had to call their support line to see if I could get a replacement. They argued with me and told me i could send it in for repair - while I also paid for all the shipping. Obviously, I protested and ended up getting a free brush replacement kit since i was "so angry" - the replacement set helped, but now the battery only lasts about 2 minutes on a full charge. I'm planning on throwing it in the dumpster and counting the $79 as a learning experience.

Don't waste your money on a Shark,

The Ultra Shark cordless sweeper is a waste of time, money, and effort. I have had extensive experience (sold 50 plus) of these units. They are poorly designed, and cheaply made using poor quality parts. The stock manufacturer warranty is only 90 days (which is just when the battery will begin to lose a charge, the belt will come off, or the poorly made plastic connection to the power head will break). Operation...they do not have suction, and rely on the brush to sweep. Carpet threads, string, and wet debris quickly becomes embeded on the brush. The sales pitch on TV was impressive, and the director must have been a genuis to make such a poor performing sweeper look so much better than it does when you actually have to use it. I depend on repeat customers for sales, and with the many returns and unhappy customers I have experienced when selling the Shark Ultras, I will no longer stock and sell ANY.... Shark products.

The Sweeper does an excellent job but....it died after 4-5 uses, I called customer service (India) and they gave me a step by step hocus pocus routine to "reactivate" the machine and assured me that would work after recharging for 24 hours. That didn't work, called again they said they would send a new battery...three weeks later no battery, called India again and was told the battery was on back order and it would be three more weeks....to be continued.....
