No Temperature Control for Baking!,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Euro-Pro TO282 4-Slice Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
I was very surprised to unwrap my new toaster oven & find no temperature control for baking! I used my oven thermometer to check out what the temp gets to - 350 - and that's the only temp you can use for baking (My old toaster oven had settings just like a regular oven). However, it is a beautiful toaster oven & looks good on my counter - so will just use it for toast!

BUYER BEWARE,

I've been disappointed with this purchase. The rack has two levels which it is cranky about changing. Because they do not easily slide, I find myself trying to brace against the hot surface of the oven. It also makes the handle provided difficult to use, and therefore it is too easy to burn yourself. There is no temperature setting -- it's either "bake on" or "bake off." Although I've had better luck with toast than the previous reviewer, I have the same situation with broil. I feel that goes beyond weird -- it's the opposite of broil!

I am not sure of the other reviewers' expectations, but for me it is great. I did not expect perfection, or that it will be the main or most frequent way to cook. It toasts sliced bread, french bread, pita bread, english muffins and bagels just fine. I also used it to bake, broil and warm/reheat, all with no problems. Please do not buy it with the expectations that it will do everything a regular oven does. Sure there are no temperature controls, and I would have preferred and underneath slide out crumb tray (hence 4 stars instead of 5), but my whole reason of buying it was for a quick food preparation (mainly toasting and reheating), especially if you plan to use it in an office. The instructions are concise, and the included accessories are great. It cleans easily, and agree completely with others about its stylish appearance/exterior design. The price at Amazon was a great value, and time will tell as for its durability. Definitely recommend over any B&D for the price.

doesn't toast well,
By A Customer
This review is from: Euro-Pro TO282 4-Slice Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
If you're looking to toast bread---don't buy this. I have only gotten uneven results--too brown in spots, too dry--and I've tried every imaginable combination of settings. It says 4-slices but 4 don't fit well unless you overlap them. The "broil" setting is strange too--only the bottom coils light up. For baking it's fine though--it heats up quickly with no problems. And aesthetically it looks great on the counter.

I bought the oven to cook lunches at work. We did not find out the broiler was not operating until after the free Amazon return period. It was not worth finding a box and paying shipping costs to send it back to Amazon. Talked to the manufacturer today who wanted me to ship at my expense plus pay $13.95. Again not worth the trouble. Also, it took Euro Pro a month to call me after I sent them an email telling them the unit was defective. Buyer beware!

I'm Loving Mine So Far,
By I. Gross Georg "imgeorg" (Edmond, Oklahoma USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Euro-Pro TO282 4-Slice Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
I live alone, and I bought this so that I wouldn't be using my big energy-hog oven just fix a couple of fish fillets, or a potpie just for myself. I've been reading the strange expectations people have from an item designed to make toast and other small snacks. I knew I wouldn't be roasting a chicken in here (hope to get a roaster oven for that!) And I don't eat toast, so I'm not going to get a hissy about too-brown bread. Here's a little of what I've made with mine so far in the week I've had it:
Eggo Waffles Homestyle - 10 minutes on toast setting for two of them. Marie Callendar Pot Pie - an hour and 15 minutes on bake. The smaller Banquet Pot Pie, 45 minutes on bake. Gorton's Battered Fish Fillet - 20 minutes on bake for two of them. Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls, 4 at a time - 15 minutes on bake. Oh, yes, and two slices of Healthy Nut bread with butter - 8 minutes on toast. (I like mine medium dark.) Even though it's a four slice toaster, only two slices of my Oroweat Healthy Nut bread would fit. Ever be engrossed in a computer game or other project and forget about what you're cooking? Or have you ever taken a nap while waiting for a snack to cook, only to wake up with a startle and say, "Oh, no, my food!"? No worries! A simple "ding" and the oven shuts itself off! No more electricity than you need! I have yet to burn anything in this toaster oven. What regular-sized oven will turn itself off at the end of baking time? Timers rock! There are two knobs. One for "do you want to toast, bake, or broil", and the other for "how long?" The ultimate in simplicity, actually. It's very easy to clean; I've seen some extremely gross toaster ovens in people's homes, there's no reason to let this one get that bad, honestly. Am I concerned that there is no Farenheit or Celsius temperature increments? No. I've learned that bake setting does the job, although I may need to cook the potpies longer than what the package says, only because the bake setting doesn't go to 400 degrees. This is actually a good thing, because they've started putting the potpies in paper pie plates rather than the aluminum ones like they used to. (I must be the only one on Earth who doesn't own or want to own a microwave). And am I worried that this may not last past its warranty? I couldn't care less. I knew this wasn't anything I would be passing on to my next of kin when I bought it. If I need another, I'll buy it. I do have to be careful not to put any plastic or paper around it while it's cooking because it gets VERY hot. If you've got a cat that likes to jump your counter, she'll learn her lesson with this one! It's made of thin metal, not insulated by porcelain like a big oven, and so it doesn't retain any heat; any heat on the inside, you're going to feel on the outside. I believe ALL toaster ovens, especially inexpensive ones like this one, are made like that. So unless you need more capacity, I think this one works well for the single person, otherwise find a countertop oven or something else larger. Amazon.com may not sell this anymore, but you can get it extremely cheap elsewhere. Check your favorite clearance item store. In the meantime, I may decide to go digital in the future, but for now this simple one works well for me.

only on sale,

I got this toaster at another vendor... on sale for $19.99. for the price I paid it's absolutely wonderfull... but these are the issues I have:
a) the exterior is not insulated at all (it's a thin little sheet of metal). b) The temp dial is not an adjustable dial; the temps are "bake", "toast/pizza" "broil" and "keep warm". If you're like me-toasting is mostly what I use, I do not have kids and have a very smart cat, then it's fine to have. I have had nothing but good from this appliance; but for me it is an interum appliance until I can find the toaster that has the attributes I want for an acceptable price. I was looking to buy a cheap toaster oven that would toast and cook individual frozen foods, and found this one. I would not pay more $ for mine.

They don't make 'em like they used to,

I didn't think it would be so hard to find a replacement for an old toaster oven. This is the second one we bought and returned (first was B&D). Same problems; basically, the timer is ineffective (doesn't 'ding' when toast is ready). We're not asking for any bells and whistles, just something that makes toast, bagels, rolls, etc. If someone finds a good one for under $50, please recommend.

Could not wait to replace this toaster with a different one,
By Prelestnica (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews

1. Toaster oven never toasted bread evenly.
2. I did not feel the temperature was ever high enough to cook meat or chicken without drying it too much. 3. The time handle broke very soon after I started using the product. 4. The outside was virtually impossible to clean. I have a lot of stainless steel appliances large and small - have no problem cleaning those and shining with Windex, but this toaster seems to attract the dirt and grease and not let go of it. The spots then turn brown with heat, of course and the toaster looks old and ugly after a year of use. 5. Same goes for the glue trace rectancle from the warning sticker on top - I was not able to remove all of it so it turned brown with time. Perhaps I should have used Goo-Gone. I am only giving this product 2 stars instead of 1 because it did get me through a year of warming up sliced frozen bread and pizza.

Very practical!,
This review is from: Euro-Pro TO282 4-Slice Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
I purchased this toaster oven a couple of years ago from another store for $19.99. Regular toasters cost that much. All I wanted was to toast four slices at a time. Then I discovered more features, like bake and warm! Then I started heating everything in it if I want them to be as fresh as the day I cooked them or if I just took them out of the freezer, ie. chicken nuggets, taters, meat/spinach pies or samosas. They come out perfectly toasted and crunchy as if I just fried or baked them. When I purchased it I didn't expect much than that. Now my kids don't have to eat the nuggets soggy from the microwave, and they don't have to eat them fried with fat. Now I am getting greedy as I am expecting it to bake cookies. I haven't tried yet, that is why I am reading reviews and one finally answered my question. I guess I will try to test it with one and see the results. Another good features is that it is very small, just a little bigger than a toaster and it is very nice looking. One con: It gets a very hot exterior.
