Product Description

Klingon is the language spoken by the legendary Klingon warriors in the hugely successful Star Trek TV shows and movies. Language learning specialists EuroTalk have brought out this beginners guide to spoken Klingon with the help of Marc Okrand, creator of the Klingon language. The Talk Now! CD-ROM covers everyday words Klingons would use if they lived on Earth today, including some brand new ones. Phrases that are unique to the Klingon culture are not included. 'People interested in learning Klingon will get a big kick out of this product - it's great fun!'' says Marc Okrand. Importantly, you don't have to be an English / American speaker to use this disc as the Klingon has been translated into 100+ tongues. Choose yours. EuroTalk software is completely intuitive - the simple interface means that learning is as easy as pointing and clicking. Speech recording allows you to record your voice and compare it to the approved pronunciation. Quiz yourself with 2 levels of difficulty to test what you've learnt - earn points and monitor your progress, then take on the memory man and get the maximum possible 1800 points to receive the gold award! Learn at your computer - or alternatively, print out pages of the printable picture dictionary, or you can learn on the move using the iPod application. Above all, EuroTalk discs are designed to be fun. Research in the early 1990s at the University of California revealed that memory is greatly improved when accompanied by fun and laughter. Our quizzes, games and stories provide this and you will be amazed how much you remember after a surprisingly short time devoted to a disc.

They couldn't have at least had her listen to Conversational Klingon before paying her to do this? Le Grand Fromage  |  2 reviewers made a similar statement

4.0 out of 5 stars Eurotalk Learn Klingon October 4, 2011
I purchased the Eurotalk Talk Now! Learn Klingon Download (DL) a few days ago, and I have to say I am very impressed with this software. I am not going to defend my study of Klingon against any naysayers. Klingon is a real language, and it is refreshing to finally have it treated as such with titles such as these.

That being said, Learn Klingon does have a few weak points, which is why it gets four stars instead of five. There are a few typos, which is understandable. The pronunciation is terrible, and I would recommend that anyone who is interested in learning Klingon purchase a copy of The Klingon Dictionary (Star Trek) by Marc Okrand and really study the pronunciation guide FIRST. You will have a better idea of how Klingon should sound. DO NOT GO BY WHAT YOU HEAR ON THIS CD. Of course, there are very few people on earth who CAN pronounce Klingon properly, so kudos to the narrators of this program for giving it a shot. But in the future, I think that those who are going to narrate such software should be coached a little more carefully.

The layout is easy to use, and it's great to finally have Klingon translations of everyday English words! And the games are (for the most part) fun, but again, the pronunciation makes playing some of the games irritating and difficult.

All in all, I will take what I can get, and this is definitely a step in the right direction for the Klingon language. majQa'

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Klingon language course EVER. May 2, 2013

Let me start off my review of this "language course" by stating that I've been studying Klingon or tlhIngan for the last two weeks using the Simon and Schuster Klingon Suite iPhone app (for literally half the price of this one). I'm really glad that I started off with that instead of this program because I would have not been able to see all of the flaws in the EuroTalk Learn Klingon.

I bought this program because I am planning to cosplay as a Klingon at a convention next year and I really wanted to get into character. So I've been trying to find programs and books that will help me succeed in my mission. I hit gold with the Simon and Schuster app... but this EuroTalk program was a major flop.

I saw all of the negative reviews for this program and I told myself that it surely couldn't be as bad as the other reviewers said it was. Unfortunately it was all that and worse. I knew after installing the disk that I was going to be in trouble when I began to notice errors in the grammar/word meanings. I was impressed at first that this program attempts to show you the spelling for Klingon words in the actual Klingon alphabet... but after it translated nuqneH as "hello" instead of the standard "What do you want?" I began to lose confidence in the program's teaching abilities. The program also is glitchy as hell and there's a considerable lag when you are going through the word games.

The words and phrases that it teaches you are completely irrelevant to the Klingon language. The first thing that you learn by using the Klingon Suite iPhone app (which I highly recommend) is that the Klingon language is not prone to the niceties of Federation Standard (English). This means there is no word for "excuse me", "please" or "thank you". However, the EuroTalk program claims that there ARE words for "excuse me", "please" and "thank you". I know that they are only stretching the meanings of actual Klingon words to fit into their equally crappy, cookie-cutter layout... but I must say I'm actually quite curious to find out exactly what the words they claim to be "excuse me", "please" and "thank you" actually translate to. If it is as off as the meaning of nuqneH then there is no hope at all for this language course.

If this is how all EuroTalk CD Roms are set up, I feel bad for anyone who buys them. This program doesn't even bother to show you how to conjugate or show pronoun usage. If I attempted to learn any other kind of language without these two key things it would be an exercise in futility. Perhaps they just assumed that such things weren't important since this isn't German or French... but I would think if the Simon and Schuster app finds this important then EuroTalk should as well.

There is really no practical use for the EuroTalk system when it comes to roleplay or even discussion on the internet. You do not learn any useful phrases and the ones that it does teach you would be far too embarassing to use if trying to talk to anyone else who actually knows Klingon. I think I will just stick to my app and the Klingon dictionary to further my pursuit of the tlhIngan language.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected March 15, 2013

Not as in depth as I was hoping, and the people that are supposed to be saying the words are distracting and annoying.
