In Europa, May 16, 2005
This review is from: In Europa: Reizen door de twintigste eeuw (Perfect Paperback)
Having lived through the second Worldwar in Western Holland as a boy of ten years of age, I recognized alot of the toppics Geert describes.
Lately there are much more data avalable about the situation as many archives open up. The book is absolutely wonderfull, however, unfortunately only available in the Dutch language.
It would be a tru blessing if this book were translated . The 1200 pages however will not make for a small task.
Geert has also written a boek "the age of my father"and gives a goed picture of Holland in the 1850s

Europe as perceived by Americans, April 29, 2006
This review is from: In Europa: Reizen door de twintigste eeuw (Perfect Paperback)
This thourough book about europe could be daunting as to its lenght, but definitely worth the effort to get through it. It is too bad that it is only published in Dutch, since it gives a very good insight as to why Europe is the way it is because of its history and present problems. It becomes much easier with this insight for us Americans to understand Europe's position in the world politics of today. I found it enlightning and very interesting reading.
