Great read, lousy reproduction of photos, November 9, 2009
This review is from: The European Theater of Operations: Cross-Channel Attack (Paperback)
The story of the invasion is quite fascinating. I have for quite some time had the text of this book. But I bought this book because the maps and photos included in the original book were what I was wanting, in order to look for various details which are clearly visible in the original book. However, I was sorely disappointed in this reproduction because the original photos, all of which are still in existence (I am told) were not used. Instead, this is a scan of an original book and the photos lack contrast, are hard to see plus they all have a more pattern which occurs when an old scanner with obsolete software is used to scan a halftone photo.
In that sense, the book was a total waste of money and that is why I give it a one star rating.
If, however, the publishers had used a high quality scanner with software to eliminate the more pattern and some attention had been paid to the contrast in the images or (better yet) the original photos had been used again, I would give this book a five star rating.
Do yourself a favor, look for a used copy of the original printing of this book if you want clear photos. If you are only interested in the story, it has to have a five star rating.
