5.0 out of 5 stars Two Giants of Impressionistic Jazz
This album is incredible! "Blue Trane", which is usually heard in subdued post-bop style, is redefined by Dolphy's wild cries of anguish... a jaw-dropping experience. John Coltrane updates his previously-released tunes, which by then had become standards, with his newly-found "sheets of sound". You can hear the post- "A Love Supreme"...

3.0 out of 5 stars I think it's Dolphy on bass clarinet
Re: First review---according to the back cover of the cd, Dolphy plays alto sax, flute, and bass clarinet, and Coltrane just plays tenor & soprano sax. Also, Naima is the only tune that I've heard bass clarinet on, which I was very disappointed about.

You can hear the post- "A Love Supreme" sound, avant-garde yet harmonious, in every track. Naima is more beautiful than ever, with two-part harmonies, Coltrane on bass clarinet and Dolphy on flute. If you like Coltrane's mid-sixties work at all, get this CD!!
