5.0 out of 5 stars Fun to listen to
Excellent CD - very fast paced, i was introduced to this group by 'Blue' which (dont get me wrong)is a great track, but there are better ones on the CD. If you like 'blue' there is almost no doubt that you will like the rest of the CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Europop is mediocre
I heard "Blue" on the radio and thought it was catchy, but the other tracks on the CD aren't as good. The album is definitely danceable, but gets a bit repetitive. This was a good effort, but it won't stay in my CD player for long.

5.0 out of 5 stars PERSONAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR 99, December 8, 1999
By
Brandon (Jackson , MS United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Europop (Audio CD)
WOW! My personal album of the year. NO KIDDING! Even the ever popular #1 smash "Blue" is actually my #3 pick. These other songs are even better: 1)Silicon world 2)Hyperlink 3)another race. I think that anybody who can't dance to there tracks is in serious need of medical attention. Even their slow rave number "your clown" reminds me of "strange love" by Depeche mode. Another mid tempo ambient "now is forever" brings back "the great commandment" by camouflage. Talking about deep lyrics in a dance album, you will find it in "too much of heaven" & "living in a bubble".listen closely. Even their title track "europop" is creatively packaged. you know buying a dance album(or album) you always going for one song and the rest of them is terrible but this album is totally the opposite. Almost everyone of the songs here is so good that you want to open your sunroof & turn it out loud or even jumping around & looking stupid. Great mix, dance album of the year quality, happy tunes; so do yourself a favor : DON'T MISS IT & play it loud at your millinnium party.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW....this CD keeps me dancing through the whole thing!, January 28, 2000

Kat (Blue World) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Europop (Audio CD)
I heard "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" on the radio a while back when I was driving home from work and immediately started dancing...well, moving as much as I could while driving. I was like, "Who does this awesome song! " The station didn't tell me. :( Finally on TV this last week I saw a commercial and they played a snippet of Blue and said it was Eiffel 65! I rushed out and bought the CD. I was so pleasantly surprised that all the other songs are just as dance-able as "Blue". The music is sort of silly, but I think that's why I love it so much. I love all the songs..."My Console" is really funny and cool...it's a song about PlayStation and it mentions a couple of my favorite games (Bloody Roar and Gran Turismo). Some of my other favorites are "Move Your Body"...although it's not such an original idea for a song, it's still so cool and definitely one of my favorites to dance to. Europop is cool. Usually I'm disappointed with the song that the artists choose for their album title, but Europop is great! I like "Hyperlink" a lot. It's a silly, but sweet love song. And I'd have to say, even though the whole CD is good (how rare is that!) "Blue" is still my absolute favorite song of theirs. I love the extended mix too. I was nervous about buying this CD since I had only heard one song and hadn't heard of them previously, but believe me, this CD is not disappointing in the least. I just bought it last night and right now I'm listening to it for the third time! You're missing out if you don't have this CD! If you get it, have fun and rock out! I sure can't stop dancing to it! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars A breakthrough dance album, January 10, 2000
This review is from: Europop (Audio CD)
"Europop" is an amazing triumph and a disappointment at the same time. I'll start out with the major problems: the lyrics. Like pop music is coming to so much lately, the lyrics on this album are VERY weak. The three guys from Italy seem to have a very light grasp on the English language and culture. This shows in the low point of the album; the song "My Console" is downright embarassing. A song about a playstation? I'm stunned that this song is even on the album. Also, a few of the tracks seem Thrown together with no real effort. However, 70% of this album shows dance music at it's BEST. The beats are inventive and catchy. The song "BLUE" is perhaps the BEST dance song I have ever heard, and I find its rather simple lyrics to set up the tone of the atmosphere EXTREMELY well. Superior tracks include "Blue", "Move Your Body" (a GREAT dance song), "Silicon World", and "Your clown" (with a strikingly 80's feel). All in all, the good points far outweigh the bad, and you will thouroughly enjoy this CD. Remeniscent of Ace of Base, this will prove to be a breakthrough dance CD. If you love "Blue" as much as I do (my fav song of the year so far), this CD will not disappoint you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely infectious bouncy techno!, January 7, 2000
This review is from: Europop (Audio CD)
I love "Blue" but honestly Hyperlink(Deep Down) with it's robotic Vocoder warblings repeated over and over like some futuristic Cyber mantra, is my favorite. I actually had to turn down the bass! The synth breaks on Hyperlink are somewhat of a cross between A-ha and Scritti Politti but much LOUDER! I Love it in the car. The whole CD is very kewl. At first it sounds simple, but then you realize "hey! This album makes me so damn happy!" Like partying with friends. Deep! Synthesized sunshine! Give it a listen and don't give up on Hyperlink(track 13) because you will start singing "Deep Down Deep Down da da da dee da da do da Deep Down Deep Down da da do da!" :-)!

5.0 out of 5 stars best workout cd going, December 10, 1999

I bought the CD for Blue but the other tracks are wild - if they don't get you motivated to workout throughout the whole cd and get your heart pumping - you are destined to be a couch potato. its got a great motivational quality - reminds me of the old mtv when it first went on the air - before all the commercialism.

4.0 out of 5 stars It grows, January 2, 2000
This review is from: Europop (Audio CD)
Mixing the thoughts here... when I first heard the album, I thought it was a tad monotanous... especially with the songs playing in order... I felt the vocoder effects got grating and there wasn't much variety... I thought it was "good for random in with 4 other discs" but after listening a couple more times, it really started growing on me...

One guy in these reviews mentioned that a "great" song is one you can love after 30 seconds... I disagree... those songs are the ones that you also eventually get sick of... the songs that grow on you, the ones that you keep finding new layers to, that is the true brilliance, and the test of a CD that might remain in your CD player for years to come...

Is this that CD... I dunno yet, I haven't had the time to see if layers keep getting revealed to me... but I think there is that possibility...

Give this a couple listens!

5.0 out of 5 stars Music by different rules, November 22, 2005
This review is from: Europop (Audio CD)
Quite a few reviews I've read have all incorrectly assessed this album by American standards and preferences. Those who have missed this sign need look no farther than the cover: it's called Europop for a reason. This album, for anyone whose familiar with European, inparticular italian, dance music knows that Europeans play by different rules. Music in Europe places emphasis on the beat, not the lyrics or the repeating chorus. The "chorus" is instead inside the music. The sounds repeat not the lyrics to make a continual beat that is catchy and that gives the listener the ability to open up and be taken in by the sound. This album does just that.

Eiffel 65 is the one that got away in the American music industry. This album is great album, just not by mainstream American standards. For that reason, this album is often one that can be found for cheap because only a small portion of the U.S. mainstream are familiar with the type of experience the cd holds. Those who are open to receiving the European style of dance music will love this album and inevitably designate a spot in their cd player for this album. Whether exercising at the gym, doing housework, or driving down the highway in your car, the only bad thing to come out of this album is the danger of getting caught in the beat and forgetting what you're supposed to be doing.

5.0 out of 5 stars FUN!, April 4, 2000
This review is from: Europop (Audio CD)
Why can't all dance albums be this fun and entirely listenable? If high energy dance music ain't your thing, then don't buy this album and be surprised you don't like it. If you like to dance, and like high energy music with great beats, you will more than likely enjoy this album. Since many albums in this genre are often poor as a whole, it makes Europop all the better, because it truly is a wonderful album for what it sets out to be. Nothing more, and nothing less.
