2.0 out of 5 stars Inaccurate and annoying
I have found this product to be barely worth the closeout price I paid for it. The first day I had it, I put it in my bedroom on a bookshelf and left it on automatic. A few hours later I came back to a completely water-soaked (and thus ruined) bookshelf top with water everywhere, including all over the unit. The windows were slick with condensation. This review is from: Eva-Mist edv-2500i Ultra Sonic Humidifier with Digital Humidistat and Nightlight with 7 Colors (Health and Beauty)
I researched humidifiers extensively and wanted to get one with a humidistat. The humidistat on this thing works reasonably well, but I've found that most humidistats built into the devices are not quite as accurate as those that are stand alone. But all-in-all, it seems to greatly increase the humidity of my bedroom and shuts off when the desired level is reached.
The electronic push-button features on this are easy to use and provide a reasonable array of features (e.g. timer, humidity control, volume of mist, etc.). This was important because I didn't want my humidifier to just run until the water went out. The night light colors are nice and sort of cool looking.
Also, the unit is very easy to fill and does not leak once you put the cap on and turn the upside down tank rightside up. The mist is fine and so far, I have not had any residue or build up with using tap water and the filter (I know this doesn't get rid of germs in the water, but oh well). Finally, this unit is very quiet. Outside of the occassional soft gurgle of water, it makes almost no noise.
The only negatives are that it comes with two packs of material in the tank which I couldn't figure out - don't know if those are used as part of the filter or just part of the packaging and the directions don't mention them at all. The other thing is that it once started beeping loudly when I took off the tank while the unit was on (almost like a smoke alarm), but went quiet as soon as I put the tank back on the unit.

The air was thick like a hot day in Houston; you could smell the humidity. It was still not registering the 55% humidity it was attempting to reach. I realize the instructions say not to place the unit on furniture, however, if anyone has an idea of how to place an object two feet off the floor without the use of furniture, I'm all ears. After I cleaned that up and set it to 45% and put the amount of moisture produced to the lowest setting, it seems to do a relatively good job of keeping the air at about 45%, though it never reaches that level in its own estimation. At this point I thought it was just inaccurate and would have to adjust accordingly. I moved it to a somewhat waterproof window sill. At that location with those settings I didn't run into any moisture issues. I had to turn off the virulent pulsating multi-colored nightlight that it has, as I cannot imagine anyone sleeping through it. I assumed that would be the end of the problems. That is, until it ran out of water.

I woke up in the pre-dawn of the next day to a horrifying screech I initially thought was the fire alarm. Instead I found it to be the humidifier, gently informing me that it was out of water. I looked for a way to turn off this "feature". None. Instruction manual? Nothing. More on that later, but my other humidifiers do a lovely job of just turning off and blinking when they run out of water. Why on Earth any engineer thought a fire alarm level of alert was necessary is beyond me.

The auto-humidity feature itself makes no sense, as you can set it to automatically adjust to whatever percentage humidity you want (though it will never be accurate in doing so).

I have yet to notice any improvement for the mist being ionized.

Another problem I have found is that the unit is quite loud. It bubbles and gurgles regularly, and the unit makes a fairly loud buzz when operating. There is also a constant dripping noise as the mist in the outlet condenses and drops. Keep in mind, this is on the lowest setting. Luckily I am a deep sleeper; I cannot imagine this being tolerable to anyone who is a light sleeper.

Finally, the manual that is provided is lean at best and insulting at worst. A whopping eight half-full pages long, my favorite part, by far, is the troubleshooting section. Here are some of the problems and sole suggestions provided: "Humidifier does not operate - Power cable not plugged in - plug in power cable", "The power light is on, but there is no mist visible - No water in water tank - fill tank with water", and "Very tight tank cap - Over tightened".

It is in every way the total opposite of the Venta humidifier I have, which is quiet, efficient, and accurate. The units initially cost the same amount, so I can understand why this one is on deep discount and apparently no longer produced (I can't find it on the manufacturer's website). The only reason it's worth anything is the deeply discounted price, but I will replace it as soon as it is fiscally feasible to do so.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is how it works, November 24, 2008

The Eva-Mist humidifier arrived in a timely fashion and as advertised. I wanted to use this to humidify a medium sized green house, but only during certain hours of the day. I setup up a timer that controlled the power to this unit only to discover that once the electronics have powered down, the unit is reset and will not automatically turn back on when power is restored. Something you might want to know if you are looking to use this in an unconventional application. Otherwise it works fine and keeps the room regulated to the value I have set. When selecting the correct unit for your needs keep in mind, The dryer your climate the more it will be used thus, you will want a model with a larger water storage container.

Humidistat not accurate. About 20% off.
Unnecessary beeping indicator for low level water.
Filter opens up during shipping and no mension or pics of media in directions. Tech support is weak for this product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mine grew mold, March 18, 2008

I have owned this for 4 months. First, mine also came with the filter in pieces and the filters are only sold on one website I could find. I do not use mine every night because I live where the humidity varies greatly, but I took it up to the mountains for five days. I changed the water each day, but the base of the unit grew mold which I cannot completely remove. I washed all the pieces, except the base, in the dishwasher but the base contains the electrical components. Now I am afraid to use it. Any suggestions? I used my old humidifier for years and never once had a mold problem. Also, the Eva-mist puts out a fine white dust, which my old unit did not (same water).

1.0 out of 5 stars Received defective unit, December 14, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eva-Mist edv-2500i Ultra Sonic Humidifier with Digital Humidistat and Nightlight with 7 Colors (Health and Beauty)
The humidifier arrived quickly and well packaged, however the unit was defective. It would not start up. Sometimes it would just screech - which I think is the alarm that it is out of water, though it had water in it. Nothing ever appeared on the blue LCD screen except for some garbled gibberish at times.

Sad to say, but back it goes! Don't think going to try another...

update on packets: I emailed their support in regards to the 2 packets of stuff (they were loose for me as well). They said that they are suppose to be inside of the filter and must have become loose during shipment.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST HUMIDIFIER I HAVE EVER OWNED. +++++, October 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eva-Mist edv-2500i Ultra Sonic Humidifier with Digital Humidistat and Nightlight with 7 Colors (Health and Beauty)
I have been using my Eva Mist 2500 Ultra Sonic Humidifier for a little over a month. It has exceeded all expectations. As a chronic allergy and asthma sufferer, I have owned over a dozen other humidifiers and I was very disappointed in all of them. They either leaked, were extremely loud, difficult to clean and very expensive. After reading some of the other reviews about the Eva Mist, I was a little skeptical about purchasing this unit. I am so happy that I took a chance and ordered this humidifier. Since Amazon backs it products I knew that I could return it if I was disappointed in this product. Needless to say, I will NOT be returning this product. In fact, I am planning to purchase an additional one for my guest room. It is by far the BEST humidifier I have ever owned. It is easy to clean, easy to use and, it is QUIET QUIET QUIET, which is very important to me because I am a very light sleeper. The first few nights I used it in my bedroom, I kept checking to make sure that the unit was still running, because it is so quiet. I am still amazed at how quiet it is. The humidistat works perfect. The nightlight with colors works great. I have not had any problems with leakage, mold or mildew. I sleep comfortably through the night which is miraculous accomplishment. I don't wake up with a dry throat. I am very, very pleased with the Eva Mist humidifier. I will keep you posted. So far, so good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love IT, February 28, 2008

This is the second one of these I am purchasing this month because it works so well, my son and newly pregnant daughter-in-law guilted me into giving mine to them . . . for the sake of the grandchild - haha. Anyway, it is fast, silent, and (unlike other reviewer) I like that it beeps when it runs out of water. It takes more than 12 hours of straight running for it to beep, so if beeping bothers you refill at 10 hours when it gets close to empty. I think 12 hours is a long time for a portable humidifier with a Humidistat.

1.0 out of 5 stars worst buy ever, January 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eva-Mist edv-2500i Ultra Sonic Humidifier with Digital Humidistat and Nightlight with 7 Colors (Health and Beauty)
It arrived in a timely manner (well, considering the $8.95 shipping charge),and it worked at first, despite the loud noise it makes for a ultrasonic hummidifier. A few days later, it started to make the screech in the middle of the night, which I suppose was the alarm for low water level, however, there was well more than half a tank of water in it.
If you are thinking about buying this product, think twice.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tank leaked on arrival, February 27, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eva-Mist edv-2500i Ultra Sonic Humidifier with Digital Humidistat and Nightlight with 7 Colors (Health and Beauty)
The water tank leaked when recieved it. Luckily I had some silicone caulk lying around so I fixed it, but if I pay $100 for something I expect it to work properly. I give it three stars because after I fixed it, it works well. The feature to automatically maintain the humidity in the room is not that accurate, it keeps rest of the room within 10% of the humidity level set on the unit. If you tinker with it though, it's not that bad.
