A Nicely Written Biography of the Legendary Woman Known Eternally as Evita.,
By
This review is from: Eva Peron: First Lady of Argentina (Signature Lives) (Hardcover)
Eva Duarte de Peron, the beautiful, powerful and extremely controversial Argentine First Lady is given an objective biographical treatment in this brief but informative "Signature Lives" series. The book itself is elegantly constructed and offers some nice photographs of Eva Peron throughout her life; although they are photographs you have probably already seen. The biographical essay is easy to read and to understand. It is also very objective towards Eva's character, motivations and accomplishments and the information provided is factual. The author tries to steer clear of the many myths and falsehoods surrounding Evita that have unfortunately made their way in to several history books. She briefly explains the circumstances which gave birth to the now infamous "The Black Myth" (The "Evita" of Webber/Rice's fantasies) and "The White Myth" of Peronist propaganda.
Overall, it's not the most comprehensive biography ever written on the subject (In my opinion that was written by Maryssa Navarro and Nicholas Fraser) but like another short straightforward biography, Clive Foss' "Juan and Eva Peron", it gets the job done and the younger readers shouldn't have a problem understanding any of the politics. This is recommended to anyone who wants to learn more about this enigmatic blonde but may not have the patience to read through the other more lengthy biographies. Eva Peron's personal and political history was so fascinating, that even the most straightforward account written about her brief, amazing life will contain enough interesting content to keep the reader intrigued. Peron biographer, Robert Crassweller stated in his book, "Peron and the Enigmas of Argentina" (also highly recommended) that Evita was "at once admitted to legend and indeed, to sacred legend." This book will give you a small glimpse as to why she has become so mythological; recommended.

Amazing Evita,
By Cathy "Multicultural Book Reviewer" (Lincoln, NE United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eva Peron: First Lady of Argentina (Signature Lives) (Hardcover)
This well-written biography of Eva Peron is attractively presented as part of Compass Point Book's "Signature Lives" series. Eva's legacy has become clouded over the years, but the passion of her people shines through. Both myths of Eva's life, black and white are well described. Her powerful personality and life continues to draw readers to her story. Very attractively bound volume.
