Well, I didn't know it was in the works, but I am SO happy she has opened her treasure trove of knowledge and wisdom to afford the opportunity for anyone to sit in her chair! Her book is truly a little-Black Book-better-keep-it-by-your-side guide and support manual. It's my new best friend.
I never knew how much I was stuck in a "beauty rut," emotionally and physically, until I read her book. I get it now. I'm especially excited that she provides step-by-step instructions on how to blow-dry the right way. Now my hair doesn't look like a puff ball when I do it...I've even fooled my friends into thinking I had a day at the salon. And the chapter about Mastering Makeup is a favorite. I have been wondering how to get that glam look with false eyelashes and I never knew you put mascara on FIRST. I spent many years cursing in front on the mirror, but no more. So easy! Tips, tricks, tools, tales...her book has it all and more, much more. Thank you Eva for everything you have shared with us.
This is the best book on beauty, the REAL meaning of beauty, I've ever read, period. I am living it.
I received this book as a gift and thought "another impractical" book on "unattainable" beauty.... A how to that most cannot do...
Opened it up and started reading and I was hooked. A wonderful, entertaining and full of easy to use tips and wisdom from a charming author. Eva Scrivo is engaging, practical and gives the reader a unique look of style and beauty! This book is filled with humor, great stories and PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE.
Buy this for yourself, girlfriends, and most of all for your moms for Mother's Day.
What I got out of it was that every woman is different. Every woman has a picture of what the best of her looks like, but she may not necessarily know how to get there. This book will help you get there!
From hair to cosmetics, to even fashion, this book covers a lot of ground. Eva explains various techniques and terminologies that will help you know, discuss and convey to your stylist what exactly you want from your hair, all the way to writing about the sheen and use of mineral foundation.
It is written in a clear and concise manner without being insulting to the intelligence of the reader. Not only does it describe how to do something to achieve desired results, but also explains why something works and why sometimes it doesn't!
There is something for everyone here. I highly recommend!
I have several books that touch on hair cuts and hair dressing from professionals ranging from Nick Arrojo (the hair guy on What Not to Wear) to Robert Veticas Good to Great Hair and Frederick Fekkai's A Year of Style. How To Look Expensive by Lustig and Fekkai have been the best up till now. This book by Eva Scrivo blows them all out of the water.
FINALLY a pro opens up about how to get a hairdresser to give you a cut that works for your hair, and explains how to style it day to day (pro blow out advice worth it's weight in gold!0 and throws in an entire chapter on fitting your hair colour to your natural complexion.
The chapters on makeup, fashion and aging are also great, but it's that advice on hair that makes this book a must have for anyone like me who has puzzled over the glib advice in the magazines on getting and maintaining a good cut and colour.
Get this book, you won't be sorry.
