This high-capacity renewable dehumidifier has been designed to absorb moisture from small or enclosed areas. It is 100% renewable and needs no power to dehumidify. It helps protect clothes and valuables from the damaging effects of mold/mildew and moisture rot. Just hang the Eva-Dry unit in a closet or in other small, enclosed spaces and it will start to absorb moisture. There's an indicator window with special "moisture meter crystals" that change from blue (when dry) to pink (when wet) to indicate when the unit needs to be renewed. The unit will absorb approximately 8-10 oz. of moisture (depending on humidity levels this should take between 6-8 weeks). Once the moisture has been adsorbed, it cannot leak or spill. This unit uses a specially engineered, crystallized silica gel that is odorless, nontoxic and completely safe. When the indicator crystals turn pink, it's time to renew the unit. Remove the unit from the area where it's adsorbing moisture and plug it into a power outlet in a well-ventilated area. A built-in heater warms the crystals, allowing them to expand and release the moisture as water vapor into the outside air. It takes about 12-14 hrs. to completely renew the unit. When the indicator crystals change from pink to blue, the unit is ready to adsorb another 8-10 oz. of moisture. The crystals remain active for 10 yrs. and the unit includes a 5-yr. limited manufacturer's warranty on all EDV500 units.

I purchased the 4-pack E-500 to be used in my closet which is located inside the Master's bathroom (many new houses have this design now, which makes the closet to be exposed to a large amount of moisture daily). The closet is about 10 feet X 6 feet. I needed to protect my clothings and handbags from moisture.
I placed 2 of them inside. I don't see the color change in the cyrstals until the 3rd week. I can see the cyrstals increase in size and the color has changed to clear/pale pink now. This product seems to be working, and it is clean, convenient! Way better than the ones you buy in which you have to replace the white powders/crystals, and require you to drain out water from time to time. But this product elimates these hassles. I bought 4 so that when those 2 need to be renewed, I always have another set to use. Will recommend this to people I know.

So I bought this because I do a LOT of solo camping and normally just sleep in my HHR instead of throwing a tent and all. I'm in a pretty humid climate around Seattle, WA and found that this HHR does not "breath" well. I thought 1 or 2 of these hanging off the hanger hooks at night would keep the windows from running with condensation by the morning. NOT. The first night I tried 2 to see if that was enough-NOT. The windows were still running with condensation even though I had also left both rear passenger windows cracked about 1/4 inch each. Since it was a weekend trip the next night I tried 3. Still the same effect. I've also tried all 4 and only find a SLIGHT improvement in the amount of moisture accumulating on the windows as I sleep. I rack this up to the statement in the description of only capable of 6-8 ounces of moisture is able to be held in each "dehumidifier". If you read the manufactures web site they say each one should last for 60-90 days. 6-8 ounces over 90 days is hardly any moisture accumulation. So all in all, unless you are looking for a VERY LIGHT DUTY dehumidifier this won't work from my experience. Mold will still grow and musty smells will still happen with as little as these do.

I purchased the EVA-DRY E500 High Capacity several YEARS ago...and I am still completely satisfied with this product. I live in the US Virgin Islands where humid conditions are a factor. I find this product to completely live up to its hype. I do not have any problem with mold and mildew in my closets. The best part of this product is that it is 100% completely renewable. I used to use DampRid...but...was completely taken back by the fact that the product is TOXIC. The fact that this product advertises to last 10 years and I am about 3 years into this product, speaks volumes. This price is GREAT and the savings are obvious. I can't believe it has taken me so long to write this review. ;)
