I live in a coastal region that receives high levels of moisture and humidity on a daily basis. To top it off, my house has bathrooms which have no ventilation, so we've often had to deal with mold problems. The answer to my problems arrived in the form of a small box-shaped dehumidifier called "Eva Dry".

This device works tremendously well, pulling moisture out of the air at a reasonable rate. The 16oz reservoir takes about one week to fill up, when I leave it running constantly. I use it in my bathroom mainly, but once in a while my bedroom will feel damp, and it handles the 12'x14' space just as effectively as it does the bathroom. My only complaint is that it's not nearly as quiet as I thought it would be, and the power cord is kind of bulky for bathroom use; I have to tuck it all away someplace, and my only outlets are on the counter, so that's a bit aggravating. The product loses one star for that.

I recommend this to anyone who has ventilation problems and needs to be rid of excess moisture in small to medium sized spaces.

fan is not quiet enough to run all night in bedroom.

Dehumidifying a bedroom is a problem - If you get a typical dehumidifier, the compressor is so loud that you can't run it at night. So you only run during the day, and hope things aren't too clammy by morning. The Eva-Dry sounds promising: By using a thermoelectric cooler, it avoids the noisy compressor, and thus offers the potential to run all night without the noise problem.

Unfortunately, the fan on the eva-dry is so noisy that you can't run it all night, and the cooler is so weak that even with two of them they don't dry the air enough to just run them during the day. So it was a of no use to me.

This product is *only* useful for dehumidifying a *very* small area (closet, bathroom) that is *very* humid. Many of the reviews said this very thing, but I took a chance that two of them would accomplish something. The loud fan was an additional unpleasant surprise.

Thumbs up to Amazon for the easy return policy. I was able to try out this idea with minimal hassle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for small bathrooms, November 18, 2006

I bought this for the small bathroom attached to our bedroom. We have paneling on the walls and was horrified when I discovered small mold spores growing in one of the creases of the paneling. We have an exhaust fan, but unless we run it all day, it's not enough. Our inspector recommended opening the window during our showers, but I can't handle a cold draft during my shower. So.....this was the perfect solution. Within three days, the tray was almost full. We leave the door to our bathroom open and cannot hear the unit running at night. It really is very quiet. I've already thought of taking it downstairs and using it in a closet that has a musty smell to see how it works. Just a fantastic product for such a compact size.

4.0 out of 5 stars EDV-1100 Product Review, November 11, 2006
This review is from: Eva-dry Electric Petite Dehumidifier (Health and Beauty)
I have used this unit for about a month now and am quite impressed. It does exactly what it claims to do.

I have a small bathroom (10'x8') where humidity was a problem. There was moisture all over the window and wallpaper. Once I put the unit in, the problem disappeared in 2 days.

The only disclaimer with this unit is that it is not "whisper" quiet unless you think the noise similar to a hair dryer on low is "whisper" quiet.

Cord is long and unit is easy to empty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short life span, September 9, 2006

Now that more time has ellapsed I feel I need to update my once very satisfied review.

I purchased one of these units for my closet - it ran quietly and efficiently for about a month - so I purchased a second unit for my bathroom. (These units ran continuously day and night in my home except when emptied). The first unit completely died shortly after the second one arrived. It would not turn back on after emptying. The second unit is still running but makes horrible noises after being turned off for about 4-6 hours during which time the unit vibrates across the floor, sounding like it is going to explode. Maybe they would work better if not used as much. Even still, I would expect them to last more than a month or two. When running correctly they do work quite nice...but I wouldn't recommend this product if you plan to use it a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Eva-Dry EDV-1100 Electric Petite Dehumidifier, November 5, 2006

This Dehumidifier is perfect for a bedroom. I got it because Virginian summers were more humid than I expected and it was hard for me to sleep. The Petite Dehumidifier sits on my vanity, taking up very little room and helping me sleep at night! Even though it is small, you do not have to empty it as often as you would think. And emptying the water is easily done.

When I began looking for a dehumidifier, I realized that most were too expensive/too powerful for my intended use or involved chemicals (damp trap style). When I found the Eva online about 2 years ago, I bought one for my little indoor laundry room and turn it on when I have the washing machine/dryer running. After a while, it really does cut down on the humidity. I bought the second unit for the upstairs bathroom which is open to the master bedroom. I did not want to fool with having an exhaust fan installed up there nor do I need a 30 gal. type of dehumidifier, which would take up too much space. This little machine is perfect. It sits on a shelf and I plug it in when taking a shower...it does take a bit of time, but eventually it cuts down the humidity. The on=off button is simple to use. The only fiddly part involves removing the water as you have to gently pull out the plastic drawer at the bottom of the unit and pry off the plastic plug holding the water in. Ideally, I wish it were just a bit more powerful and/or just a bit cheaper, but for these stated uses, it is the best that I have been able to find.

We purchased this for use in our travel trailer. It worked fine for about a month, then stopped. Dead. Don't waste your time or money on this!

We needed a small dehumidifier for our 5th wheel trailer in the winter. It takes up very little space and does not use much power, but takes out the dampness and keeps the trailer dry. I am very pleased with this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked right away in a damp bathroom, November 9, 2006
This review is from: Eva-dry Electric Petite Dehumidifier (Health and Beauty)
We have a small bathroom that is always damp. I hate trying to keep the mildew at bay. We purchased this dehumidifier and within a few hours of turning it on, I had a thimble full of water in the resevoir. I am impressed. It is quiet and the cord is lengthy so it stretches if you don't have an outlet nearby.
