Editorial Reviews

Review

"I enjoyed the book very much. I particularly like the question-and-answer format with the text as you read the articles. The book can be useful not only in evaluating others’ research, but also in evaluating your own work. The questions are ones we all should ask ourselves before we send articles off for review. The book also is helpful when students are writing their own research proposals for theses, dissertations, and other classes. It helps students review what should be in their own proposals and also what their instructors or committee members will be asking."

(Jennifer Greer )

"The strategy of providing a research article, and then a set of questions without answers, and then the answers afterward, is a nice touch. . . I kept turning the page to see what Ellen wrote. I actually looked forward to Ellen getting into some good sleuthing. . . and inviting me, the reader, to follow the clues with her!"

(Jay Schindler )

1.0 out of 5 stars Cannot recommend it, August 28, 2011
The authors review a variety of journal articles, but their critical reviews are rather spotty and subjective. The introduction is fairly good because it gives an overview of critical issues in evaluating journal articles. It reminds us of various threats to the validity of a study, etc. I had to purchase this book for an advanced statistics class but I cannot recommend it.
