Book Description

November 30, 1998
This is a comprehensive review of the two techniques of DXA and ultrasound. Both are used to measure bone density and thus predict the likelihood of osteoporosis or to assess its severity. The use of DXA has become universally accepted as a routine test of bone density in recent years. Many technical advances have occurred, particularly in the speed of examination, and these are fully described. This book provides the reader with a full explanation of the procedures involved in and the advantages of both DXA and ultrasound. It is essential reading for all clinicians and technicians involved in the diagnosis, treatment and study of bone disease.

This review is from: Evaluation Of Osteoporosis (Hardcover)
We tend to forget how these machines work, and how easily they can be fooled to deliver inaccurate results. Wahner, Blake, and Fogelman make this clear, and easy to understand for the medical professional. Even though its out of date as to software and makes and models, the physics hasn't changed and the new machines still have the same issues. Lots of examples of poor scans, many of which I still see today on a daily basis in the field, yet go unrecognized by techs and physicians alike.
