Book Description

0195094492 978-0195094497 February 15, 2001 2
A state-of-the-art multimedia presentation of how to interview and evaluate sexually abused children, this CD-ROM is based on Oxford's widely acclaimed textbook Evaluation of the Sexually Abused Child. It includes fully-searchable comprehensive text and references, a full-color photo atlas, real-time video case simulations, actual patient interviews, and follow-up evaluation.
The CD-ROM contains these four components:
Fully searchable text: Featuring a photo atlas and detailed analysis of the medical, forensic, and legal aspects of child sexual abuse, this text is authored by a team of contributors which includes many of the preeminent experts in their field. Hypertext linkage allows searching and comparison of widely sparated words and concepts, as well as quick look-up of illustrations, videos, and photographs. Cases in Pediatric Gynecology: Six pediatric gynecology cases are presented in detail, from initial history to final diagnosis. Two of the cases are forensic referral cases in which child sexual abuse was suspected. Videos of the actual patient interviews are presented. The user is asked to look for signs of sexual abuse, and indicate if further forensic follow-up is required. He/she must conduct a virtual physical exam, suggest tentative diagnosis, and order appropriate texts and procedures. Each case concludes with a discussion of the conditions involved, an analysis of the users workup, and a list of references.
Consultations in Pediatric Gynecology: The user plays the role of consultant on 28 cases, each of which includes a short description, an illustrated discussion of the patient, one or more questions concerning diagnosis and treatment, and final discussion.
Legal Opinions: The user is asked to evaluate the legal status of 30 separate cases. Given a brief description and image, the user must categorize the case as normal, abnormal but not involving sexual abuse, or pathognomonic of sexual abuse.
in addition, the reader may choose to:
Search the complete glossary of words and concepts
Print various amounts of text from any display
Display illustrations from several different parts of the photo atlas simultaneously for comparison
Save clinical records, so as to have a record of cases already completed
Customize a select reference list, downloadable into any standard word processing program
Enjoy on-line customer service and support

Long experience and devotion to this difficult area of study are evident. The basics are logically and quite comprehensively presented. A good text for pediatric and family medicine trainees as well as forensic nursing practitioners.
