President Bush is a good man and will be judged a good president. I enjoy reading Bill Sammon's books about him because he is one of the few correspondents who is fair toward the president.

Misleading title,

This review is from: The Evangelical President: George Bush's Struggle to Spread a Moral Democracy Throughout the World (Hardcover)
I've enjoyed Bill Sammon's books before. "Misunderestimated" and "At Any Cost" come to mind. But the title of this brief book (218 pages) is misleading. Only the first chapter and the beginning and very end of the last chapter, touch on Bush's christianity. What we find in the middle is a recap of Bush's last two years in the White House. Vice President Cheney dominates much of the book. Chapters 2, 3, and 4 revolve around him and his thoughts on the war in Iraq. Chapter 4 is a detailed account of the quail shooting accident and the outrage of the press. Chapter 5 deals with the evil of al-Zarqawi, and in this chapter, Bush returns from an almost 60 page break. We also get a chapter on the Republican scandals of George Allen and others that probably cost the Republicans the 2006 mid-terms. (Though we are shown how democrats do far worse and are always given a pass because nobody associates them with morals or religion.)
A possible title for this book could be "Slander II." A sequel to Ann Coulter's book showcasing liberal bias in news coverage. Mr. Sammon gives us many examples of that in the coverage of the mid-term scandals and Iraq, and they are extremely convincing and indefensible to a clear-thihnking liberal (do they exist?) saying there is no bias to be found. But I did wonder what I was reading.. where did the "evangelical president" go? When the final chapter begins, Bush makes his first remarks on faith since the first chapter. Then we hear about the democratic hopefuls for '08 and how they might have to deal with Iraq.. then back to the title of the book for a couple pages and we close it out. So be aware.. it's a good brief look at the last couple years in the Bush presidency.. but what the title suggests "The Evangelical President: George Bush's Struggle to Spread a Moral Democracy Through the World," merely bookends the text.

Very good book........I wonder how we could get it to those who criticizes the President for the legacy he is building. Obviously, they will not buy the book. It gives a very honest and unbiased commentary on the President.

Great as Usual,
This review is from: The Evangelical President: George Bush's Struggle to Spread a Moral Democracy Throughout the World (Hardcover)
I read, 'Strategery', and loved it. Then I discovered it was part of an ongoing analysis of the current Bush administration. Then I read, 'Misunderestimated'. At that point I knew I was on to something good. 'At Any Cost', was about the Florida miscount fiasco. Sammon is amazing in his insider story telling.
Each book focuses on a different member of the Bush administration and how they veiw and deal with the attacks by democrats. In, 'The Evangelical President' (the latest in the series), the focus is on Dick Cheney. The book honestly describes Bush's fall from favour in the public eye. It delivers one thing that all the books in the series deliver on. The main stream media are imbeciles and the Bush administration knows it. They play the media like a new guitar. The White House reporters seem oblivious to this painfully (at times) entertaining fact. Being a reporter himself, Sammon's descriptions of the media manipulation by the Bush administration are that much more meaningful and entertaining. This book is not filled with the glowing admiration of Bush that the others in the series have. It paints a realistic picture of the current situation. When I read it, however, and in light of the other books in the series which I've read, I was left with a feeling that I can't wait to see how Bush's reign turns out. I look forward to Sammon's next (and presumably last) book in the series about the current Bush administration. I have not read the books in chronological order. I'm currently waiting for, 'Fighting Back', which is about Bush's response to that horrible day in 2001. This series has turned me into a huge Bill Sammon fan. I would catagorize all the books in the series as page turners.

America's Steel Backbone revealed in George Bush's Presidency,

History will enlighten the anti-Bush/Chenney pundits and cause them to remedy their caustic treatment of these two men at a time of great peril for Americans. Bill Sammon removes the fog of political bias and leads us to understand that Bush concluded that we are really at war with Extreme Islamic Terrorism, something that needs to be confronted globally, with conviction uninhibited by partisan politics, if we are to garner security domestically.

Confirmed my views on Bush,

I always thought that Pres. Bush must be an extraordinary man and this book showed me how he really is and that I was right. A great manager, leader and definitely a true believer. He has a good heart and he knows where he is taking the country. Although his big problem is that he relies on his aides like Condi Rice more than he should and that's why he is misguided on bunch of issues, i.e Iranian policy. This book will definitely change your views about the current US president and will make you understand him more. He's one smart man!

This review is from: The Evangelical President: George Bush's Struggle to Spread a Moral Democracy Throughout the World (Hardcover)
I give this book five stars because the author Bill Sammon, was able to get the inside information... and most of all because of a great title.
President Bush is a man that few of us truly understand. Sometimes Sammon gets caught up in talking too much about Vice President Cheny and others -- throughout the center of the book.. perhaps to cover up for his failure to digest the full implication of what President Bush contributes to the history of America... but who could acheive that? Dr. Thomas Moore does in his new book, THE PROGRESS OF MAN, at least with regard to many facets of President Bush. THE PROGRESS OF MAN is a rare and gifted literary effort which reveals much of the inner man --- and the author acknowledges that there is much more to be revealed within this simple but complex president. I am arroused by Sammon's exploration of the spiritual nature of President Bush... about the certainty with which President Bush understands his mission on this planet - and is never overawed by the complexity of the tasks to be acomplished within such a simple and dispassionate faith. A question arises as to how well We The People understood what we were getting ourselves in for when we elected this President, twice. Did the majority recognise that we voted for "an instrument of God, appointed to change the direction of humanity... armed only with the tool of simple faith in the power of Jesus Christ" -- and a humble awareness of his own flawed nature? Sammon and Moore have each done something completely different. Instead of dramatizing the Endtimes events prophesized in Revelation, both Sammon and Moore have used them merely as a backdrop to tell a riveting and very human story of one flawed man's confrontation with himself, God, and human nature. "Evangelical" and "Progress" remind me of another great book, HILLARY, in that it develops the full complexity and subtlety of divinely inspired but conflicted human nature. Out of this character study of Hilary Clinton, the author develops complex themes about human nature, divinity, hatred, and relationships... just as Sammon does. I haven't read a more literary creation in quite some time. Try Upland Road, GODLESS and Wanderlost for further reading regarding the nature of the big issue of today.

The Evangelical President,

This review is from: The Evangelical President: George Bush's Struggle to Spread a Moral Democracy Throughout the World (Hardcover)
This text is fairly well written. However it does not
live up to its title "The Evangelical President". While it does cover some aspects of President's beliefs, it digresses in to other areas, while interesting, that are not germain to the point the author was apparently trying to make: That President Bush is a strong Christian and how it relates to his administration and how the liberals and media have no idea what makes the man tick. It does point out the supercilious attitude of many in the media toward a man of belief and principles. It can be deduced from the writing that many of our congressmen do not have principles other than collecting money and getting re-elected. And, that the vast majority of the liberal media has no idea of what religious principles are. In this aspect, "The Evangelical President" is a confirmation of what many in the Country have deduced or come to know: Liberalism is scared of a person with principles.

The righteous were wrong in Jesus' time too,
This review is from: The Evangelical President: George Bush's Struggle to Spread a Moral Democracy Throughout the World (Hardcover)
Bill Sammon is doing his country a disservice by continuing to write & put out pontifical fluff (his verbal IQ is approximate to that of a toddler's) Sammon would have us believe (erroneously) that the `messianic evangelical' Bush is justified in starting wars on pretext alone, in unwarranted militaristic takeovers, war crimes, fascistic censorship, prostitution of September 11th , oil & the odiously recurring sentiment in the Republican party of greed, unapologetic imperialism, social hypocrisy, corporate military & colonialization, & policies worthy of the very dictators Bush pretends to `protect' us from. In the inarticulate fashion that seems to be the hallmark of every conservative writer or pundit (i.e. Rush, O'Reilly, et al) Sammon shines & perfectly personifies the ignorant, self-serving, sanctimonious neo-con base he so ably represents. His unworthy efforts to efface the left by downplaying historical facts, misusing information, gathering disinformation, & throwing his misguided, misfired ill will toward the Marxist liberals (yeah I said it. Get over yourself) only serve to make him look like the bigoted, anti-communist, pro-big business-screw the little guy-pretend to be Christian ignoramus that he is & if this is at all indicative of his fake Christian base & the current state of American intellectual discourse (which it is) then I give this book zero stars (if it would let me). This literary hack has put out yet another book that is nothing more than an indisputably bumptious & uncalculated, made up, ineloquent, pompous, paramilitaristic right wing monkey portrait that so rightfully exposes Bush & his insipid cronies for the inelegant creatures of silver spooned tyranny that they are & that make Sammon look like the soft, psychotically delusional & inarticulate moron that he is. I say we oust Sammon from the Algonquin round table. In the mean time may we flame on brothers & sisters & let us keep railing against the obscene transgressions upon our better judgment!
