From the Manufacturer

Hydraulic Glass Series Overview

Evans Fusion Tom Pack (10", 12", 14") glass (clear) Hydraulic two-ply drum heads feature a thin film of oil between the plies that suppresses unwanted overtones. A classic sound, short in sustain. Tension them tight for a real thump or loose for a more slappy sound. Hydraulics are famously easy to tune, making them a perfect fix for troublesome drums and players with little tuning experience.

The revolutionary Evans Level 360 drum head technology is found in the proprietary collar design that extends the level playing surface of the drum head 360 degrees around the drum. This vertically enhanced collar design ensures balanced contact with the critical bearing edge of the drum shell, resulting in:

• Ease of fit
• Ease of tuning
• Extended tuning range and quality of sound

Available on all Evans 6 – 20 inch Batter and Resonant Drum set, Snare Side, Concert and Marching Tenor heads. Evans Level 360 technology solves the age-old dilemma of traditional synthetic heads consistently not fitting a variety of drum shells without using force that chokes the responsiveness of the head and the drum’s performance.

The Level 360 Blueprint

The benefits provided by Evans Level 360 technology stem from a groundbreaking collar design:

Steeper Collar:
Extends the level plane of the drum head to ensure balanced contact with the critical bearing edge of the drum shell.
Roll-over Hoop:
Provides strength and stability where the film meets the hoop, for greater durability without diminishing performance.
Balanced Contact:
For ease of tuning and enhanced quality of sound.
Greater Tonal Range:
Wider tuning options result in higher levels of responsivness and resonance, giving you the confidence to tune your drums high or low.

Product Description

Hydraulics feature two plies that sandwich a thin layer of oil and give the fat, deep, and short sound pioneered by early 70's rock and roll. The oil decreases sustain and enhances attack and low-end. Additionally, Hydraulics are famously easy to tune...making them a perfect fix for troublesome drums and younger players looking for instant sound.

Weird, but not a bad thing.
Aaron Faletto
Tuning these batter heads low and the resonant heads very low gave me just the right chest thumping sound for heavier styles.
Christopher Swayney
My purchase of Evans drum heads over the past years has proven to be a winner.

These are some of the most interesting, different heads I've used. They appears to be clear at first glance, but actually they have several "bubbles" all over the surface. I must clarify, they are not actual bubbles that are raised at all; the surface is smooth as any drumhead. There are just some air pockets in the oil layer between the plies, which is intentional and is not a defect. Weird, but not a bad thing. The sound? Warm, with short sustain. Remo Diplomats these are most definitely not. Almost a "thick" sound, IMO. Very 70's arena rock. Though I like the sound, I found it was a bit hard to get a definite tuning pitch. On the upside, however, I found that I didn't need to use Moongels, O-Rings, or any other dampener on my toms. Another plus: they are tough as nails. I've beat the crap out of these heads and they still sound the same as day one. Jazzers should stay away, but for rock, blues, and bar band drummers, these heads are great.

These hydraulic glass heads are a great choice for those who want wet attack with depth. I recently purchased a drum set with toms that rang out for days. This is excellent for live performances but at practice and in recording it's overkill. I've tried the hydraulic blue on the low tom and it was like pounding a washtub, way too dead for my taste. I thought I'd give the glass a try since they're known for brighter attack and it turned out to be just that.
Tuned high they still have a bright long sustain for a dampened head. Tuning these batter heads low and the resonant heads very low gave me just the right chest thumping sound for heavier styles. All this gives these heads versatility to cover almost any genre in small venues and practice spaces. If you have a kit that doesn't resonate a lot or don't like any muffling in your tuning, these aren't for you.
For others who want to try the Evans Hydraulic line, I own them all and are basically categorized as:
Glass - Open; Blue - Muffled; Black - Dead.

The Evans tom heads are unbelievably great sounding. I head factory Tama heads on my drums and had a hard time getting to sound good. Put the Evans on and they tuned up really good and have the sound I've been looking for!

I researched drum heads for quite a while before purchasing these. They are perfect. I have a studio kit and I have been taping the heads to deaden the ringing and I got tired of all that so I purchased these and there is no ring, no tape, just great sound!

I'm not into the Beatles "choked" sound but if you are these are the heads you needs. I actually was playing drums for a summer camp that decided to put the drums in a horribly-built drum booth. Think perfect square which is horrible considering the volume and normal resonance of the drums. I needed to avoid drum resonance at all costs!

These heads did exactly what I needed them to do-- provided a nice attack and ZERO resonance! If I'm in the situation of a really live venue or any other horrible playing situation I'll keep a set of these handy.

Sound is great. Durability is pretty bad. On par w/ a G1 in durability. Very disappointed by Evans for 1st time.
