Eve-olution,
By marcus d (england) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eve-Olution (Audio CD)
Since the release of Eve's debut album(firstlady), eve has been broadening her talent in music and she hasnt been restricting herself to the same ol hiphop beats and hi hats. this shows throughout her album eve-olution. she rhymes on beats diffrent from the usual rap beats and she does well. her collaborations with swizzbeatz(not surprising), dr.dre, the lox, truth hurts and alicia keys, help this album to come out top. the first collabo with dr dre on the album is 'what' and the beat sounds like one taken off the chronic and is a typical dr dre beat good all the same and it matches perfectly with eve's rhyimng skill. party in the rain produced by swizz beatz is something new completely. it will take a few listens 4 u to get used to it. its good tho cos it portrays swizz beatz broadening imagination via music creation and also shows eve to have an ability to rhyme on even the most weird beats. gangsta loving no doubt is one of the best but probably the best tune on this album is Double R where Eve raps alongside Fellow ruffryderz jadakiss and styles.(wonder y sheek doesnt appear.)all in all this is a must have for the ruffryder fans and eve fans. certainly worth having for those keen on hearing something new.

what an album,
This review is from: Eveolution (Audio CD)
After listening to lil kim's new album, la bella mafia, i thought eve's album would look pale by comparison. How wrong i was. The album is all-round superb, combining her chilled sensitive style (which sees her teaming up with alicia keys in the track 'gangsta lovin') with her aggressive and authoritive style (seen on the track 'double r what', featuring jadakiss and styles.) Her collaboration with the Lox has given eve the ability to stand tall on both street and commercial level, much like Busta Rhymes. Few artists can claim to have harnessed both markets. Well known hits include the new smash 'satisfaction', 'gangsta lovin', and 'let me blow ur mind'- all of which have elevated eve's public profile immensely. The remaining tracks will not dissapoint, all of which i believe would be huge successes if released. Even the 2 skits on the album make good listening. Eve is a work in progress, and this album is a huge step forward 4 her career. Her rapping has clearly improved, and her overall style has matured. She sounds better than ever on this album. Watch out lil kim- Eve is on top right now. And backed by the lox, who would bet against her staying there? Foxy Brown is going to have to do something special to take the crown. But 4 now, the crown must go to eve.

Eve Bounces you Until Dawn,
By Lori Titus (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eve-Olution (Audio CD)
Eve's new CD is a bouncy, rhythmic serving of upbeat rap infused with pop and old school r&b. She features guests Truth Hurts, Alicia Keyes and Snoop Dogg among others. However, have no doubt that Eve holds it down all by herself. The raps here speak of varied topics---love, jealousy, and hope, but the album is not preachy and does not take itself too seriously. From the intro to the end the album the songs are strong and ear catching, perfect for a party or just starting your weekend or evening off right. Tracks to take particular note of--- Gangsta Lovin', Irresistable Chick, Party in the Rain, and the title track. This is definantly a CD worth your time. Get an extra copy for your car stereo!

You can't sneak a filler track by me!,
This review is from: Eve-Olution (Audio CD)
Excuse me if I sound contrived, but I love Hip Hop. Hip Hop like all genres of music is the expression of emotion. Hip Hop is expression of emotion told in a rhythmic form of spoken word over an instrumental with a beat. With this in mind, I have come to the conclusion than Eve is not a Hip Hop artist. Eve stopped being a Hip Hop artist after she released "Love is blind" the street-tale of domestic violence. Do not get me wrong; if she chooses to put together slapdash collection of songs with a minute smattering of good ones and call it an album, then that's her prerogative. Damnit! That IS her prerogative.
Eve hails from Philadelphia, the home of the critically acclaimed and immensely talented Jill Scott and The Roots. Unfortunately for her, I don't think that she got a sip of the same water. Instead of documenting life and discussing social issues that are important to her (a la MC Lyte) or making feminist rhymes (a la Queen Latifah,) she settled for infantile shaggy-dog tales of her superficial life with stories that lack consequence. Despite suffering from delusions of grandeur, (she has got skills on the microphone but lacks lyrical brevity therefore is no Hip Hop heavyweight) she wastes away overproduced tracks courtesy of Dr. Dre, Swizz Beatz and 7 Aurelius, with tired one-dimensional lyrics that are taxing to listen to. The standard of the music is very low with a few desperately needed peaks. As you may have heard played to death on the radio, "Gangsta lovin'" an Irv Gotti production and "Satisfaction" straight out of Dre's catalogue of hits are the few songs that do not require usage of the skip button. Truth Hurts makes an appearance on "What!" when Eve states that "there ain't a b*tch alive that can take mine." My favourite of low-expectation having "love" songs has got to be "Figure you out," where yours truly meets a guy at the bus stop with an ex-con who has a daughter. I must take this time to identify her overuse of the word "daddy" when referring to men. Why? Does she lack in self-esteem to a point where to she needs a man to play her "daddy" or is she asking for a pimp? This subordinate women tripe infuriates me. She employs the help of children on "As I grow" which is a nauseating "I Can (Nas)" wannabe. I pause for another question. How on earth can you have an 18-track album with only three good tracks? Simple elementary numerical skills illustrate the gross imbalance. The production on this album is thick. By creating booming beats and noisy disorganised instrumentals the listener is distracted from her. You may find yourself dancing blindly to her song about how 'ghetto' she still is, what she can buy and who she can have sex with, but Eve doesn't differ herself from anyone. She doesn't demand respect in any way. In short, this album proves to be a waste of time and it's a shame that she couldn't go beyond the expected, the tacky and the generic to make a real record. Oh well, must go and listen to some real music.

With Eve-Olution, Eve is back and better than ever. While scoring many mega hits such as Blow Ya Mind, What Yall Want, Love Is Blind, Gotta Man and Who's That Girl, Eve's charisma and style make her instantly likeable. Her lyrics and delivery have all anted up and she has become the top female rapper in the game. Lyrically, Eve is on another level and can't be touched. She has come a long way since her start with the Roots popular "You Got Me".The only problem Eve has ever had was her beat selection. She has been stuck with Swizz Beats, an aight producer with occasional flashes of brilliance, but DEFINITELY can't sustain an entire album. And with Eve albums his time behind the boards has been cut down drastically for each album. And for this album he only produces two songs, which is great. Hopefully next album there won't be any of him. She gets the right producers behind this thing such as Dr. Dre, Irv Gotti, Tone & Poke, Bink and others. Eve also recruits some of her industry friends such as Jadakiss & Styles, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Alicia Keys, and Truth Hurts to help her out. Of course everyone has heard the superb Gangsta Lovin feat. Alicia Keys, which is off the chain. Other tight songs have to be What, Party IN The Rain, Hey Yall, Figure You Out, Double R What, Satisfaction and As I Grow. The best song on the album is Let This Go, which has a phenomenal beat and melody. This is a song about breaking up with someone and going through the story of why they broke up. Excellent. Even the skits are pretty dang on good and I hate skits. The problem with this album is that it has some ridiculously lame tracks. Irrestible Chick is complete garbage, the Intro is useless, Neckbones has an-impossible-to-flow-over beat and the title track is usless. Even with all those minor grievances, Eve-Olution is a winner. Invest in this album; I promise you will be satisfied. Recommended.

This new one from eve comes right after her first grammy and second hit album. Well let me get straight to the point...is it good? Lets just say that Eve definetly evolved since the last album lyrics and beats wise. Right now I would say there is no other female coming with the type of versatility in beats and style as eve is droping on this one. Her first single "Gangsta lovin" was cool but didnt catch my attention til I heard the whole album....once you hear it... its a whole different thing after that. Every track flows one into the next to give you the full vibe. Eve comes hard and smooth on every track. Tracks im feelin are: Gangsta Lovin(Smooth R+B track with alicia), What(tight beat from dre with truth to get the album started right), irreistable chick(smooht old-school flow...funky beat), Party in the rain( Tight mix of reggae and rock..very different), Hey Yall (Snoop puts it down on this one and so does eve), Satisfaction(Next single with a tight flow and old school beat), Neckbones(One of the best bangers ont he album...with a jungle -rock beat), Eve-volution( brings everything into one and shows how fast she can flow). Overall Eve came real strong with this one and wasent playing this time around. Eve has guests but believe that the cd is what it is becasue of her. With movies and other things on the way..it loosk like her eve-olution is just begining...but for now check out the musical evolution and get the album.Must buy!
