5.0 out of 5 stars I know the author however, January 24, 2006
This review is from: Even As It Stings (Paperback)
Elm Battersby is my stepmother who I have some contact with. I have read Missy BJ a Manuscript on Sept 11 and most recently Even As it Stings. I was very surprised by her newest effort. She demonstrated incredible range in this effort. Her imagination and ability to create the characters floored me a bit. She painted clear pictures and was able to weave an interesting tale of abuse'violence, statutory rape. prostitution mixed in with beautiful family values, tender moments and a lot of twists and turns. Hannah the main character is a true heroine in every sense of the word. Very descriptive of the surroundings I felt as if I were in New England.. The book is a quick read and bound to hold the readers interest. I reccomend this effort highly to anybody. Though I bear the same last name i truly enjoyed this work.

In "Even as it Stings," Elm Battersby develops her characters in such a way that the reader feels a powerful connection to them soon after their names first appear on the page. The life lessons these characters teach are extraordinarily noteworthy, and I strongly encourage you to read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even as it stings., January 27, 2006
This review is from: Even As It Stings (Paperback)
This moving and exciting book has got to be made into a movie so all the nonreaders can see the story. It makes one think to what lengths you would be willing to go to in order to save your family from abuse and poverty. It is touching, exciting, tender and filled with suspense.
