This review is from: Even Higher Sudoku: More Challenges From The Japanese Master (Paperback)
If you like your sudoku tough and varied, this is the perfect collection. The book has a 101 straight sudoku puzzles and a few variations like frame sudoku and equation sudoku. The puzzles start off with medium difficulty and go up to very difficult, and then devilish. The very difficult and devilish ones (40% of the collection) take a really long time to solve, and are truly hair-raising. There is absolutely NO guessing involved, no trying different paths to see which one works. Nishio is a purist: It must all be done through logic, and I must say this is my preference, too, and the only kind of sudoku puzzle that is worth the name. Bottom line: If you're a casual sudoku solver who likes puzzles that can be solved in minutes, you won't get past the first 10 pages. But if you enjoy puzzles that take hours to solve and require your complete concentration, buy this. For true sudoku afficionados, this is the bible.
