Not appropriate for my child,
By
This review is from: Even More Parts (Hardcover)
My 4 1/2 year old son and I loved the first two books in this series. I found the language in this book offensive and did not continue reading after the first 4 or 5 pages. If you prefer not to use the words stupid, crazy, and idiot in your household then this is not the book for you.

Parts3 is Misleading addition to the Franchise,

The original Parts was great and my youngster loved reading it over and over. Very funny story.
This third book in the series appears it has gotten to the stage where they are trying to "milk dollars out of the franchise". The style change is a unpleasant surprise and now it is simple one line idiom's which the child audience does not find entertaining. This is not a book I can read to my 4 year old at bedtime since there is only one sentence per page. While some people may find the idiom's interesting, because it is a different style I think they should not have been misleading and included it in the "Parts Franchise" that kids have come to expect as a good read for bedtime. I feel like I wasted my $12 on this one...I wish I had looked at it at the bookstore instead of relying on the Parts franchise name and buying it sight unseen on Amazon. - JC / San Jose, CA

Cute, but not as good as 'Parts' and 'More Parts',
By
This review is from: Even More Parts (Hardcover)
My boys (7 and 3) both love the 'Parts' and 'More Parts' books by Tedd Arnold, so we were very excited to find out that 'Even More Parts' had been published. Unfortunately, we were all a little disappointed in the third book. It is basically a collection of idioms with funny illustrations - "I laughed my head off.", "My eyes are glued to the television.", "Keep your nose out of other people's business.". Tedd Arnold's idea of illustrating idioms as a child would understand them is very funny, but 'Parts' and 'More Parts' were much more enjoyable.

All Eyes on this Mind-bending book!,
By
This review is from: Even More Parts (Hardcover)
The 3rd book in his wildly funny series on body parts idioms, Even More Parts shows this author has never lost his ability to see things from the child's perspective, even if is macabre and a bit weird! The scene opens with our protagonist writing a "list of all the scary things" he's heard. This list is what the bulk of the book is constructed around: idioms on body parts, illustrated with crazy interpretations of them. For example, "I want all eyes on me" shows a teacher being pelleted with her classes' eyeballs. In the bottom margin of the pages are even more crazy interpretations of common idioms, in miniature. Altogether, this is a hysterically funny book, and is a great read-aloud for younger elementary classrooms and an engaging read-alone for older children. This might also be used for to stimulate student creativity in upper elementary and lower middle school art/anatomy/literature projects and is a wonderful introduction for kids on what idioms are.

Even More Parts,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Even More Parts (Hardcover)
This book is about a boy that jots down the things he hears. He is also losing parts. His toys and his cat get freaked out of him losing parts.
He starts out losing his head. Then changes his mind. Then the book goes on from head to toe.His toys are action figures. On one page it says I want all eyes on me. He is nervous that all of the children's eyes will be on the teacher. The author of this book is Ted Arnold. If I were to recommend this book I would recomend the book to my little sister Gianna because I know she would love it because she would laugh at the funny pictures.

I was very disappointed in this book. My granddaughter loves Parts and I thought this book and More Parts would be a wonderful addition. Boy was I wrong. There is no story to either one, and it is not interesting to any child I have shown it to. I am very sorry I purchased either one.

Not as good as Parts and More Parts,
This review is from: Even More Parts (Mass Market Paperback)
My 2 and a half-year old loves Parts & More Parts, and begs for repeated readings. We got this book as an incentive at the local library for having completed a summer reading program for kids. I thought the third book in the trilogy would be similar to the first two, and was very wrong in my assumption. This is definitely for older kids, and though it says it is suitable for 1st graders, I think its more appropriate for those in the upper elementary classes. It deals with idioms, using the different body parts to illustrate the use of idioms, like "Don't give me lip", "Can I lend you a helping hand?" etc...though it is creative, there seems to be a lack of humor that was so apparent in the earlier two books in the series. Oh well, that's just my opinion...its just written in a different vein than Parts & More Parts.

Humor for children,

Hilarious! My kids love the plays on words & idioms. We laugh every time we read this. I sent it as a gift to a foreign friend who specializes in linguistics, specifically in American idioms. She loved it, too.

Bizarre Yet Effective Way to Teach Idioms,
By
This review is from: Even More Parts (Mass Market Paperback)
Ted Arnold, with his wacky illustrations, brings idioms to life in this rather bizarre story about a kid who starts to write down "scary" phrases he overhears. If you stop and think about it, if you were to take idioms literally, you would be scared too. For instance: "I laughed my head off", "My eyes are glued to the television", and, "I put my foot in my mouth." So really, is your foot literally IN you mouth? Well, Arnold's illustrations show exactly that, and the result is that students will laugh out loud as they get a full dose of common idioms used in our speech and writing. Each page is packed full of idioms, so there is no shortage of examples. After reading this book expect to hear a lot of idioms because this fantastically simply yet effective picture book will unleash the world of idioms in your student(s).

The book is fine, I suppose with time I could learn to like it. I think kids will enjoy that there is enough detail that they can notice something new each time they read it. But I don't think its all that fun to read. Doesn't really flow.
