I bought this book one month ago and the first thing I did was read all the intro stuff about supplies, rotary cutting, etc. After looking at all the patterns and pictures, I knew I had the courage to break away from the normal pastel, pale baby quilts that the ladies of my family produce and that's just what I did. I bought a bunch of supplies and fabric for my first two quilts. The first one took 4.5 hours, and that included machine quilting it (noone in my family does that) and binding it (instead of turning it out like most of my family does). I was thrilled. The next (which was bigger) took about 6.5 hours. They were bright and bold and I've never been more excited about anything. If I (and all I know about sewing is how to do the basics for mending and such) can take this book and make two quilts in 11 hours, anyone can do it! The third, which I doubled the pattern for a toddler, took about 20 hours and I love it! This book is the best!! And I bought another one of hers, too.

10 different quilts each photographed in bold colors and then in soft pastels. This is an awesome detail because you would not believe how different each pattern looks just switching between bold and soft colors!!
The quilts are listed from easiest to "most difficult", but even the most difficult one could still be completed by a first time quilter!! The patterns are beautiful yet so simple to create.
Instructions for each quilt are very clear and easy to follow. The book even suggests which way to iron each and every seam!!
The instructions for each pattern will only make a "baby" size quilt, but because the instructions are so well laid out (especailly the material requirements) it is VERY easy to adapt the instructions to make a larger size quilt. (So it goes far beyond baby quilts!!!)
Oh, and did I mention how easy, Easy, EASY these quilts are to make??? The truly great thing about them though is they look far more sophisticated and complicated than they really are!
You will not be disappointed with this book!

If you like to make baby quilts this is the book for you! There are so many beautiful baby quilts in this book and they are easy to make! I am a beginning quilter and have made 3 of the quilts in the book. The instructions are clear and easy and they even have arrows pointing in the direction of which way to press your seams. I really like the pictures of the different finished quilts shown in the book too, and the different variations of the same quilt. I have very little creativity when it comes to putting fabric together for a quilt but this book gives you some inspiration!

yes, it's meant to be for baby/toddler quilts. However, just change the fabric and colors and, tadaaaa you have a lap quilt for an adult. Easy patterns, with terrific instructions. I have made 10 quilts from this book, using various patterns. And have 3 more ready to quilt. Never boring, shows the patterns in vivid colors and then again in pastels. I rate this book higher than the other Ursula books, (sorry Ursula). A great "Primer" for those just starting to quilt, or don't want to spend a lot of time fussy cutting, and would like to have a quilt in a few days. I have also enlarged the quilts and have found the patterns are very friendly in increasing the amount of squares or blocks.

I am not a new quilter, but love all of the patterns in this book! There are 20 different patterns, and the author shows each quilt in a pastel color version, as well as a brighter version. You won't find another baby quilt book with this many patterns . . . believe me, I own every baby quilt book on the market! I also have her first book which is good, but this book is the best - you won't be disappointed. My favorite part of this book (besides the 40 color photo examples) is her focus on novelty fabrics. She makes it very easy to make a fun quilt with all of the great fabrics out there. Also, I agree with another reader . . .just add a few blocks and you've got a great quilt for an older child.
The only thing I noticed is that you can actually purchase LESS fabric than the author calls for. You might be able to purchase 1/3 yard, but the author will tell you 1/2 yard. If you are purchasing fabric at a quilt shop, the fabric is much more expensive, and you don't want to waste any. The fabric at quilt shops is rolled evenly on the bolt, so there usually aren't any crooked cuts. HOWEVER, if you are getting your fabric from a discount chain (you know which one I mean), I do recommend the extra few inches . . .I get shorted almost every time, and I've gotten tired of trying to teach a 16 year old why it is so important that 1/2 yard should be a FULL 18 inches! :)

If you need a great baby shower gift in a hurry, this is the book for you. These quilts are quick, cute and easy. Attractive novelty fabric is a must and the patterns are not brand new, but they are fun. This is a great book for your quilting library.

I borrowed this book from the library twice in a row, and am finally buying one for myself. Most of my books only get used once or twice, but I've made 5 of the projects from this book and don't see an end in sight. Awesome presentation (fun to read and browse through) and good value (very versatile).
