A good EP, shows lots of promise, August 4, 2003
This review is from: Even Stranger (Audio CD)
This music is a bit mellower than most music I listen to, but was led to it because I'm a fan of Samiam and like the guitarist common to both bands. I was very impressed with the songwriting and musicianship on this EP, and also like the vocals... not whiny at all (PLEASE let there be NO MORE WHINY BANDS!!!), just a good ol' rock singin' voice.
At first listen, on the surface the songs sound like your ordinary alternative rock songs, but there's an element that these songs have that others don't. There's a subtle but unique flavor that this band brings to their songs that helps to distinguish them, and it's when the band lapses into these moments that I like them best... certain crunchy baselines and drum fills, hard to describe but if we were listening to it together I could say "That right there is what I'm talking about."
Only gets 4 stars for a couple reasons... first people throw out 5 star ratings like they grow on trees, have you ever heard of grade inflation? And second, I think this band could lose a bit more of the "pop" element that makes their songs sound a bit predictable and dull at times, but that's just my opinion... I'm sure it's that "pop" element that helps make them accessible. Looking forward to more from this band.

After spending years playing Texas Is The Reason over and over and over again, we finally get something new with that familiar voice. If you like Texas and other similar bands from the '90's, get this disc. You will like it.
