5.0 out of 5 stars Even Superheroes Get Diabetes
I got to see a group of children at a birthday party having this book read to them. They were completely enthralled. While others played raucously outside, they listened to every word. Wonderful!!

3.0 out of 5 stars okay but better for small kids
GOt this for my son when he was 7. He was already to old for it. Good for a smaller kid if you read it to them and their attention span is long enough. I do thank anyone who writes a book for diabetic kids as there is so little of substance out there but sadly, this didn't do it for my (or the other) t1 I brought it for.

5.0 out of 5 stars kid-friendly diabetes book sure to be a hit with children, August 5, 2007
This review is from: Even Superheroes Get Diabetes (Insulin Comics) (Paperback)
This wonderful book takes a serious subject and makes understanding and dealing with it kid-friendly. The talented author has a knack for "speaking kid" and brings a warm hearted lightness to this subject with humor while still treating the child reader with respect by including explainations of the facts. I highly recommend this fun and colorful book to anyone looking for a way to talk about diabetes with a child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting , Positive and Fun!, May 22, 2007

What a wonderful way to open a discussion of diabetes between a child and a parent or a child with diabetes and his or her friends. This book has the uncanny ability of turning something scary into a powerful adventure, just what the world needs! Beautiful colors surround an triumphantly exciting story.

I was looking for a book to share with my daughter's Kindergarten class, to help them understand her diabetes. This book was a tad long for their attention spans. Still a fun book, so I will save it to share when she is older.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written and illustrated, May 19, 2007

This is a terrific book for any child who has diabetes, and for siblings and classmates, too. It demystifies the experience and offers truly beautiful illustrations. Every school library should have a copy--pediatricians' offices, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for any Diabetic Family, January 10, 2010
This review is from: Even Superheroes Get Diabetes (Insulin Comics) (Paperback)
I could not keep myself from crying as I first read this book to my diabetic child, I kept getting severely choked up on many pages, and had a hard time finishing this story without sobbing. It is wonderfully written and illustrated in a fun comic book style. I wish we had this in our home right after diagnosis. A friendly way to explain diabetes to children, and to give strength and inspiration to a diagnosed child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book out there for T1 kids!, July 18, 2011
This book is fantastic! My 11 year old just read it and giggled and enjoyed it all the way through. I highly recommend it for all families with type 1 kids.

We bought all the books available when our son was first diagnosed and they were out of date on the info (i.e. "can't eat birthday cake" and only "apples" WHAT??!! That's not the way we care for diabetes!). Plus they were pretty boring or lacked inspiration. This book is current, engaging and very inspiring for kids with this condition. Their lives do change and they sometimes need to be superheros to cope and this book brings that all to the fore in a very kid friendly way!

Thank you for this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars great read for all primary ages, November 21, 2010

This book was a big hit with my 8 (nearly nine year) old diabetic son who chuckled his way through reading it. I have to disagree respectfully with the reviewer who said this book was mainly for younger children. My son is a good reader with an advanced vocabulary and this book captured his imagination and made him feel like he too was a bit of a superhero! I highly recommend this book.

This story is really entertaining, funny, and yet educational too. It's one of the better books on this topic that I've seen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and very cool!, February 17, 2010

The author of this book should get an award. It is very creative and the drawings are fabulous. Super funny and definitely puts a positive spin on Type 1 diabetes. I loved it, and sent copies to family, friends, and school staff. I also thought it would be a great way to break the ice with anyone who is making fun of a diabetic child at school.

Most of all, it helps our kids feel like superheroes (because they are) and has a good lesson about helping others all around the world who may not have the same medical amenities that we have.
