I purchased this seat after reviewing multiple booster seats. There are several things I like about it.
- Still has seat back for younger kids, but the back is removable so it converts to stand-alone booster seat when they get older.
- The price is unbeatable.
- Colors are simple and not gaudy.
- Has two pop-out cup holders with space for other items (such as hot-wheels cars.)
- MUCH easier to move in and out of car as you no longer have to deal with the LATCH system. Just thread the seat belt through the hole and you are set.
I did deduct a star for one reason. During a hard turn, the booster seat will slide around on the car seat due to the hard plastic bottom. Remember, there is no LATCH system on this to hold it in place. We solved this by purchasing a car seat mat to put under it. Still, seems like the manufacturer could have put some rubber on the bottom to prevent this. I don't think it's a safety issue because the seat belt fits him nicely in the booster. But be prepared to purchase or rig something up to prevent sliding if you have leather seats.
My niece was 2 1/2 years old when I first bought this and had just started to make weight for a regular booster seat. Although the back removes easily enough on this booster, we wound up graduating my niece to a backless booster three years later because my sister had had a second kid and now he needed to use this! Two years later, my sister's third kid is old enough for a regular booster and so we put her in this and my nephew graduates to the backless one while the oldest graduates out of a booster entirely. Now we've reached a milestone in our house. My nephew is turning eight tomorrow so he no longer needs any booster and my youngest niece will be graduating to his backless booster. And this puppy, can finally be decommissioned. Lost count yet? THAT'S EIGHT YEARS of continuous use!
What's more, except for a few stains (which blend in really well to the cover), this is none worse for the wear. Spills? Pshaw! The cover comes on/off in no time (yet stays in place when you want it to) so you can throw it in the washing machine no problem. Also, those cup holders/snack trays are godsends! I sat three kids in the back of my compact sedan on a regular basis. The snack tray is big enough to double as a cup holder which means we could actually have four cup holders back there. (One per kid + one extra.. w00t!) Our other (backless) booster only has one cup holder on each side and so you can bet I'm going to mourn the loss of this!
Other things: this is super comfortable.Read more ›
I liked that the armrests did not extend too far forward, and it also tilted up, both of which allowed our child an easier time to get into the seat. The seat belt shoulder loop/guide kept the cross-chest part of the seat belt at the proper height without the danger of going across the neck (in case of accident). There are two slide-out trays that have a round and square holder (for drinks, snacks, toys, etc.) and are easy enough for our toddler to slide in and out. The seat cover is cloth and has a microfiber feel.
The back portion easily adjusts to 6 different heights, and therefore grows with the child. The seat can also be converted into a no-back booster mode, which is basically just the base part of the seat. The back portion can come off relatively easily, but requires an intended effort for it to come off. After our trip, I removed the back and used the seat for our return. The back portion I left with the in-laws.
I prefer the LATCH connection system, which gives me the peace of mind that the seat (and the child) will be safe and secure and not fly anywhere. However, on one occasion we had to make a sharp turn and surprisingly the booster seat did not slide or move.Read more ›
